Assuming these are injection molded, it has to do with the color pigment and drying process. Certain colors need more pigment to show up (pink is a good example) and then require different drying heat/time per each, at least this is the case in plastics.

I'm a swimming teacher in Australia and need water shoes every day. One test for you is the speed of tread wear down in pool environments. Pool decks are universally rough concrete to prevent slips and falls and that stuff wears down the foam shoe tread pretty easily. For me, on pool deck and wet 5 days a week (~30hrs/wk), I wear through Crocs in a year so I need new ones every year... that was fine until a few months ago when crocs Australia upped the price to $100-120 for new season styles! I'm pretty dark at them now so I've gone with the Merrill. The soles have felt great for several months, like most Merrill soles. Sadly, the tread is wearing down to nothing just like the Crocs do. I don't think they'll last more than a year either. EDIT nearly a year later: the Merrells -one of the lock-in straps snapped in half after 7-8 months so i could only wear them loose, and they got loose over the months. Next the foam compressed like Crocs do but ended up with lumpy bits under the arch and became more uncomfortable in months 9-13. The soles wore down the same as Crocs, the tread wears out then the sole keeps wearing under the ball of the foot, and then wore through! That has never happened with crocs (which i wear as much), ive still got 4 worn down pairs that are kinda wearable. So, the Merrells went in the bin 13-14 months after purchase and I'm back in Crocs. Shame because i loved the Merrells until the 6 month mark.
Like others have said, these tests don't really tell much of a story as far as real-life performance goes. Because as someone who has also owned and worn all 3, the Hydromocs are by far the most comfortable and longest-wearing of the 3
how d the tests not show that lmao? the hydromocs clearly had the highest durometer according to his testing and he said that makes them harder which means more wear resistant
Exactly. I love my hydros. Out of all 3 theyre probably the most functional as a water shoe (what they were intended for) but going by this test you wouldnt know.. I bought FoamRunners after seeing this video. Got the Onyx(wish it was actually black) and the Vermilion will arrive in a few days. They do feel great even though the look is organically chunky
Yeezy FOAM RNR are a funny one. Most are actually made in China with only a select few being made in USA. I would be interested in seeing you test China made ones because in my opinion, they are far softer than USA ones.
Merrel have that information on a sticker on the inside of the shoe..it might have fallen off your particular ones…but I have a pair for each of the family, they all had stickers on saying made in Vietnam
About 5 years ago I found a pair of black plastic/foam/rubber basic model Birkenstocks for $30 at Nordstrom. They started out as my house shoes, and after a month I started wearing them on the street as my errand shoes. They're easy to clean, don't smell, look like black leather Birkenstocks, I wear them every day for hours, there's barely any tread wear, and they still look like they did the day I bought them. I'm still surprised how much mileage I'm getting out of these things, and they show no signs of slowing down. Definitely check em out if you can, I don't even know if they still produce them.
I love how my RUclips Vanced app skips straight across your in video sponsorship lol Also youve assumed that hardness correlates with durability. That's not necessarily true if hard materials are brittle. Sometimes softer materials are more malleable and therefore more durable. Basically it depends. You can't conclude on durability based on an SA test alone. I really found the rest of your video interesting though. Thanks for your work.
The Yeezy foam runners are extremely amazing on ice and snow traction. Obviously feet od snow wont work, but inches with ice they are better than sneakers and boots ridiculous traction on ice.
if you could add fit analysis that would be great. are they true to size? are they better for narrow or wide feet? are they vertically spacious for high volume feet or more suited for flat feet? that would be helpful for those of us with unique feet. thanks!
Wide footer here: Pollex: Size down for length and it felt normal but when I went TTS it was big but I had space for my foot. Merrells: TTS Foam Runners: Depends on where it’s made. For USA I went TTS and it’s snug but comfy snug. I can wear em all day
I bought a pair of crocs slides named mellow and they are okey, pretty comfortable and squishy but a pair of cheapos can feel as comfortable if you have the good luck of finding them.. Costco sells some really good ones. anyhow great video 👌🏻
I bought the black hydro mocs 2 months ago in store brand new for 20$ or so, I know it was less than 30. I’m pretty sure they were on sale because summer was ending. Amazing shoes at 20$
I think there should be test where you put them in a car outside in hot weather, this happened to mine and they shrunk like two sizes, they were also under heavy bags that changed the shape because the heat made it easily moldable
My dad has had his Walmart Crocs knockoffs for about 14 years, and they were maybe $10. Yes 14 years of no shame wearing ugly ass foam clogs with socks and sweatpants.
Late to this, but regular crocs > salehe crocs in terms of comfort and actual all day wear. It might be my foot, but the salehe crocs don’t offer enough support to walk comfortably on for an entire day, or honestly not even for a 30 min walk. They look awesome, but don’t have it where it matters. Obviously we all have different feet, sole arcs etc, so YMMV, but be aware. Salehe makes it seem like he walks on these all day every day, but I doubt it.
Got a pair of each except the Foam Runners. But if theyre anything like the Yeezy Slides, FRs will be my number 1... Hydro Mocs are my favorite in comfort vs the Pollex Crocs. But the Crocs look cooler, AND can be slipped on w/ no hands if you don't wear em in Sport Mode.
I was so against crocs when they first got popular like a decade ago but I'm converted. I use them as slippers around the house because with kids there's a high chance of stepping on that one lego you missed or some sharp toy or even a random wet spot in the carpet that could be anything so wearing them around the house became my go to and I feel naked without them. These are a bit much though.
Great stuff as always, amazing how we can see these differences even in such similar simple footwear. If I can make a suggestion... A couple simple improvements to the bar drop test that should offer better data... - attach a flat plate to the bottom of the bar so that it spreads the load out, like the footwear is contacting flat ground rather than the smaller area of that square bar - try to make the insert part of the stand that the footwear is sitting on as reasonably generic foot shaped as possible(try to contour some heavier sheet metal maybe or carve out a block of wood? Doesn't necessarily have to be an entire foot lol, just the bottom), to distribute the load across the footwear in a kinda similar general fashion to how your foot inside a shoe causes the load to be distributed in ways that a smaller contact patch won't replicate Both cases, just trying to minimize centralizing the load so that it's more similar to how shoes really work when you wear them. The ball drop test still gives us an idea of how some of these specific materials/constructions act, while the modified bar drop should tell us more about the performance of the overall design. Also, all 3 of these are positively ugly AF! GOOD LAWD with this 'foam foot wrap' footwear styling, it's all just so terrible lol.
The strap on my Merrell Hydro Mocs had cracks on them after a few months. The video said the blue Merrell had rubber straps but my pair, the Air colorway, had like a plastic strap that also yellowed after some time. I bought the Hydro Moc because I wanted to use a different clog, but I'd go with the Crocs next time.
I have one pair of the hydro mocs but for some reason I own 12 pairs of crocs in different colors. They’re more comfortable in my opinion. Im a shoe, purse and hat hoarder. I buy the crocs with the holes.
First I’d like to thank you @RoseAnvil for this comparison and all you do on this channel. I really appreciate and enjoy watching your vids. I haven’t tried the Merrell but do have several pairs of foam rnnrs and couple pairs of the Salehe Crocs.. and I must admit, I do love the crocs and tend to lean more toward them over the foam rnnrs. Although they are both comfortable, but if I only had one choice.. I’d go with crocs. Plus there ARE more durable. Foam rnnrs start wearing down after so many wears.
The foam runners are so easy to bootleg and have the same exact quality for a fraction of the retail and especially resale prices. Like 20 bucks for a legit foam runner. The crocs salehe bembury as well. I really wanted the tan colored original colorway release (menemsha) bc I think it's most wearable however the resale price currently is almost 600 dollars bc of the rarity. Got it for 20 bucks from Chhhina. With crocs tags and everything. Side by side with my friends pair and they're exact replicas. I hate how overpriced some of these foam shoes are. Thought about the Merrells bc I like the sleekness but I really appreciate the traction and durability of the Pollex Crocs. Also the crocs foam has broken in and softened a bit with wear. Blessings!
I bought a pair of foam runner because I wanted something. easy to slip on for when I travel at airports, I really enjoy them I’ve worn them all summer on different trips. I wore them to Atlanta, myrtle beach, Chicago, Cincinnati and Detroit. The shoes feel amazing the only thing in the front under my toes I’ve worn some of the grip but I also drag my feet sometimes.
Id definitely go with the foam runners…if you can get them for retail, or slightly over retail. Incredibly comfortable despite them being ugly as all hell imo, and to me functions better as an actual shoe over crocs
Agreed on the ugly but man the comfort is overrated as hell imo. That back tab cuts in your ankle and honestly yeezy slides are more comfortable anyways
@@theYT_moderator I’d agree on the slides being more comfortable since I think the slides got a chunkier sole. I never had it scratch my heel up but my cousin had the same issue, so it’s kinda up to how you’re built
I would love to have seen you add Vans Rubber Boat Water shoes to this list, because those're the ones I was thinking of buying. They retail for less, and are 100x cooler looking to me.
Just because a foam shoe or any shoe for that matter is softer does not mean it will be more comfortable. I’ve had shoe that were very soft but they had no support so you felt wobbly which made it uncomfortable. Very comfortable shoe has the right balance between softness and support. From my experience Merrell’s are the most comfortable shoes over ever worn. You can walk 20 miles in them hiking and it your won’t hurt at all, they will be tired though but that’s just from walking all those miles as with any shoe. I can’t speak for their foam shoe. Given that they’re firmer than the rest probably makes them better for activities instead of just lounging around the house.
need to see a comparison on vans vault old skools and regular ones. vaults last so much longer for just a little bit more of a price and i’m curious to see the difference. great video like always!
Not sure about domestic goods but anything imported (with very few and specific exceptions) must be marked with a country of origin, pursuant to 19 U.S.C. 1304. Failure to do so will require the importer to mark the merchandise. Multiple instance of failure to properly mark imported merchandise by an importer can result in fines and seizure of the merchandise.
You should do a comparison of the big companies flagship marathon shoes. There is so much technology and innovation in them. It would be fascinating to see the differences

I live in NE. I've had LL Bean's classic moccasins for 12 years strong and they're still going strong. It was only just this year I made the decision to find a cobbler who might be able to help with the small fur wear down in the heel area. But yeah I love them!! So worth the price.
when i saw the thumbnail and thought, cut em in half? why?? its just foam. but the video was interesting to watch.
I am 10 years and once a nail pierced through my skin and went half way into my feet😓😭
Would love to see you test the Autry Medalists. They are a retro 80s basketball sneakers, but they seem higher quality than the average offering from Nike, Adidas or New Balance
I love all the content you produce! Love watching you take a part shoes and also discovering new boots through your channel ♥️♥️
I wore crocs as safety shoes in my welding class for 2 years. Never once had a problem lol
I find spatter gets through the speed holes pretty easily.
You can't just call Crocs a safety shoe like that
@@leonclose7823 There's a version called the "specialist 2" that doesn't have the top or side vents, also has higher sidewalls around the heel.
This video makes me want to average out the price of all three shoes and just donate it to the channel. This is a lot of precise research for a slide. I can dig it.
Respect
Merrell is coming out with an all-weather model with a rubber layered sole in December so I would really like to see a test on them.
Merrell Atr 1trl
Ok, so what I got out of this is: If I'm smelting iron go for the Merrells, but the cat likes the Crocs so that must be the best one.
I bought FoamRunners after seeing this video. Got the Onyx(wish it was actually black) and the Vermilion will arrive in a few days. They do feel great even though the look is organically chunky
i own all three of these and the funny thing is the merrels are by far my favorite and most worn one out of the three.
HYDROMOC IS THE BEST - hands down..
- lasted on YATCH WEEK on a boat / vacation in Europe.
-Bought for my whole family
- Best PRICE / VALUE by far
As someone who has tried both the crocs and the foam runner I would say the foam runners are more comfortable.
Yeezy FOAM RNR are a funny one. Most are actually made in China with only a select few being made in USA. I would be interested in seeing you test China made ones because in my opinion, they are far softer than USA ones.
The Project Farm of footwear.
That's a high compliment.
As somebody who owns both Crocs and hydromocs, I always go with hydromocs in a heartbeat. Just a way more comfortable shoe
You're right. It says I'm sick af.
Just watched this Review and still buying my 1st ever pair of Crocs ⭐️
I have all 3. Foam Runner are my go to. Crocs are second and Merrell are 3rd. All comfortable.
I love how my RUclips Vanced app skips straight across your in video sponsorship lol
Also youve assumed that hardness correlates with durability. That's not necessarily true if hard materials are brittle. Sometimes softer materials are more malleable and therefore more durable. Basically it depends. You can't conclude on durability based on an SA test alone.
I really found the rest of your video interesting though. Thanks for your work.
Should have done a running test, to see if they slip out under rigorous exercise.
Would love to see you testing the Nike Lunarforce Duckboots and see how good/bad those boots perform
Crocs & Merrell good for reducing foot pain from walking on concrete. Merrell size big so go for smaller size.
The Yeezy foam runners are extremely amazing on ice and snow traction. Obviously feet od snow wont work, but inches with ice they are better than sneakers and boots ridiculous traction on ice.
if you could add fit analysis that would be great. are they true to size? are they better for narrow or wide feet? are they vertically spacious for high volume feet or more suited for flat feet? that would be helpful for those of us with unique feet. thanks!
Wide footer here:
Pollex: Size down for length and it felt normal but when I went TTS it was big but I had space for my foot.
Merrells: TTS
Foam Runners: Depends on where it’s made.
For the float test, you also should include a dunk test to make sure it can still float. No one is going to set them on water like that lol.
Its funny how a chunk of foam can sell for almost a 100 dollars
I saw those Merrel "crocs" on a FB ad and I thought that those were the ugliest "crocs" ever made. Thank you for setting me straight on that notion.
I bought the black hydro mocs 2 months ago in store brand new for 20$ or so, I know it was less than 30. I’m pretty sure they were on sale because summer was ending. Amazing shoes at 20$
You over paid.
Bought mine for $40 off Amazon this summer and love them!
I think there should be test where you put them in a car outside in hot weather, this happened to mine and they shrunk like two sizes, they were also under heavy bags that changed the shape because the heat made it easily moldable
I've been wearing walmart foamies for about 2 yrs. Still in really good condition. Maybe add those in a future test
My dad has had his Walmart Crocs knockoffs for about 14 years, and they were maybe $10.
Yes 14 years of no shame wearing ugly ass foam clogs with socks and sweatpants.
@@TylerSnyder305 us old dads have no shame lmao
@@brianwatson3705 everybody could use a little shame.

You should have done the second date test. Which one are you most likely to get a second date if you wear them on a first date lol
For the bar drop test, you dropped it on the rubber of the croc. The ball bearing test you did the foam, or arch.
Got a pair of each except the Foam Runners. But if theyre anything like the Yeezy Slides, FRs will be my number 1... Hydro Mocs are my favorite in comfort vs the Pollex Crocs. But the Crocs look cooler, AND can be slipped on w/ no hands if you don't wear em in Sport Mode.
got some idea for the channel: 1. ) your current rotations including sneakers 2.) after wearing for certain amount of time review. Thanks!
Yeah but which one tastes the best?
I was so against crocs when they first got popular like a decade ago but I'm converted. I use them as slippers around the house because with kids there's a high chance of stepping on that one lego you missed or some sharp toy or even a random wet spot in the carpet that could be anything so wearing them around the house became my go to and I feel naked without them. These are a bit much though.
Great stuff as always, amazing how we can see these differences even in such similar simple footwear. If I can make a suggestion...
A couple simple improvements to the bar drop test that should offer better data...
- attach a flat plate to the bottom of the bar so that it spreads the load out, like the footwear is contacting flat ground rather than the smaller area of that square bar
- try to make the insert part of the stand that the footwear is sitting on as reasonably generic foot shaped as possible(try to contour some heavier sheet metal maybe or carve out a block of wood? Doesn't necessarily have to be an entire foot lol, just the bottom), to distribute the load across the footwear in a kinda similar general fashion to how your foot inside a shoe causes the load to be distributed in ways that a smaller contact patch won't replicate
Both cases, just trying to minimize centralizing the load so that it's more similar to how shoes really work when you wear them.
Blessings!
I bought a pair of foam runner because I wanted something. easy to slip on for when I travel at airports,
I really enjoy them I’ve worn them all summer on different trips.
I'm a crocs guy... I always buy from the crocs outlet store. They always have sales.
Bite tests will bring this channel to over 1 mill subs.
Oven test put them in a low heat oven and see how much they shink! I had a pair of m10 crocs in my trunk and they now fit my GF W9!
Merrel even makes their military boots in China. It’s doubtful they’d make foam sandals in the USA.
The crocs are not regular crocs. Those are special edition with rubber. You should of done this test with the regular crocs
I can’t imagine being willing to shell out more than 15 bucks for injection molded foam slippers.
Love the content u created as a shoe lover. I never think shoes can be present like this. Thank you!
need to see a comparison on vans vault old skools and regular ones. vaults last so much longer for just a little bit more of a price and i’m curious to see the difference. great video like always!
Love the videos, Weston. How about showing farmers some love? My Muck Boot Muckmasters are wearing out. Is there anything better for winter slogging?
Same people that be wearing crocs hated them till they saw a celebrity started wearing them
Whoever wins, we all lose.

Putting on Yeezys and then those salehe I'm choosing foam runners unrivaled comfort
You should do a comparison of the big companies flagship marathon shoes. There is so much technology and innovation in them. It would be fascinating to see the differences
almost half of the tests are pointles, bite test, melt test, fire test, only thing that matters is the comfort and durabilyty
regarding of the biting test, which one tastes better?
Obviously the ones that smell like marshmallows. If they smell like they might as well taste like it
