Nice one Lee , I think that chippy was there in the 80s the name jogged my memory I lived at Cleveland square in Paddington and I used to take train to central London , I believe goode st or goodg street station, was inexpensive then good for hungry college students LOL
Cheap fish ‘n’ chips for London Lee. In fact with a drink for 50p blimey that’s a bargain! I liked the look of the fish with that batter crunch and the chips looked pretty good too. Not one for curry sauce myself but I like mushy peas👍
Once again I'm in the US and cod always has the skin removed, haddock can be purchased skin on or removed. Also with cod in particular you can request the loin or captain's cut which is the thicker part towards the head. The mini looked like the tail piece. Can you request either cut or does the cook determine what they prepare. For a lunch special the price is probably a value. I'm enjoying learning about the traditional food of England as well as seeing around England and other parts of the UK as I'll never be able to visit the country of my ancestors. I've learned a lot between you and #DarrenJohn vlogs.
A mini ! 😲😋 that has blown me away ...portions and qulity fantastic...what a gem...off the charts 😁💖🇦🇺👍10 out of 10 . Have a happy easter ...cant wait to see your good Friday choice..well done
Thanks MacMaster . Just saw this and noticed a quite recent update by another YT foodie. He paid £10.50 but his COD 2/3rd size - He didn't get to wet his whistle - Brilliant as always
Should have gone for the fully - any how there are many good chippies in London that are reasonably priced. One, owned by an elderly couple - is just off the old Kent Road. Another is down from the Kennington Oval - which even does free chips every Tuesday but there's a fantastic one near Battersea Village owned by a young Asian couple - the Cod that I last enjoyed was over a foot long. Last but not least is a chippy on Munster Lane near Lille Road in Fulham. Why I mentioned them all is because the fryers are all owners occupiers. Also the Cod us cut in the classical French way which is called the troncon. In other words the cross section of the Cod is slightly triangular in shape which gives the fish structure allowing it to be held to the mouth by one hand without it collapsing. Imagine a gigantic battered slug. I have noticed that the troncon cut is disappearing because fillets cut this way are shorter on length. Most fryers like their Cod to appear larger by cutting it in such a way that each fillet appears to have a tail which is a bit of a con. When you bite through the fish you'll be lucky to 1 and a half inches if flesh and too much batter. This wouldn't happen if it was cut troncon stylee.
Brilliant comment and educational. Yes I think many fish and chip shops are skimping on the fish these days. I first became aware of this ironically on a MacMaster video. Some chippys slice the fish length wise halfing its thickness but still charging the full price. Or was that what you were saying (please excuse my ignornace)? Either way you've done a great comment to this video.
You don't get a lot of chips, but you have to consider it's London and the price is amazing especially in these tough times where everything is going up heating, gas etc so that's a bargain in London.. it will set you up for the day. Very good 👍 Didn't you get batter bits Lee? Love batter bits or scraps if you are northern!! 😍😍
Great video love it I have a question and you might be able to answer this question I will be off to Tenerife for the first time do they scan your booster jab or is it all three ???
Hi lee, they looked great value for money, good crunch to batter, could actually hear it, 8out of 10, perhaps a bit high, but I'm bloody starving watching Mark
I asked a southern Fish & chip shop to take the skin off the fish for me. They said they could not do that as the fish would fall apart!!!! I called BS as the chippies up north never fry with skin on!!!
Fish and chips with sauces and a drink for under a tenner..........in central London. Well done to the chippy, it just shows that it can be done. For that its a 10 from me.
Great stuff, as always, Lee. Another time you should try the Peruvian Grill in the street food market, just around the corner from Gigs in Tottenham Court Road. Their spicy chicken is the best!
A fish n chips in Ålesund, Norway will be a good fried fresh cod with chips and either mayo or aioli. You get a slice of lemon to squeeze on the fish. Haddock is unheard of in this dish, that fish is used in other cooking. No green peas or curry, for that you will need to go to a fish restaurant and specifically ask for it.
Not long before you head of to Lanzarote bud... myself i have 96 days... great video again Lee... and for London ...the fish n' chips looked fantastic... might need to head up there to get some.....
I miss me fish n chips on a friday night. They looked amazing and the price wasnt bad. I would have had a buttered tea cake to go with it and some gravy - controversial. I was watching a documentary on Frank Sinatra and it began with his childhood in Hoboken. I thought I know someone who lived there. Didnt you live in the states. Something tells me you did lol. Great video and waiting for the next one.
The problem with Trip Advisor and such like, is you get a lot of people visiting from other countries, they don't realise that there is better out there, in different regions. The same food can taste totally different. 7.5/10
8.5/10 from me on this one, Lee. Price is brilliant (for the location), fish looked decent (albeit a little thin for cod), a nice crunch on the batter when bitten into, curry sauce and peas looked how they should, and chips looked alright. You needed to drown in in malt vinegar and salt though, so I'm taking a point off YOU for this. 9/10 for the review, Lee. Room for improvement. 😀
Lee, it sure did look more than reasonable. Yea, I would give it a 7.9 too. I must say, I'm glad to see this video you posted. Some shifty looking fellas passing you by. Haha!
Crickey our mini fish are half of that one it looks really nice well presented not much fish inside though ours does have a good packed fish in batter good price for all that I like to put my curry sauce in with my peas and stir it all together delicious 🤣 score 9 till the next one 😊
Well sir, I beat you by 40+ years! Used to visit friends in Gower St, close to Gigs, as we were all poor students, Gigs was our go-to place - for Kebabs mostly though. Good to see they are still going - thanks!
Hello lee hope your well, watched your channel 💕 eating fish and chips. Looked amazing, we are so different I like the skin on my fish has too be crispy tho, not a bad meal , god bless you and your family xx
Lee,good value at £6:50 everything looked nice and eatable, but was it enough if you were hungry could you have done with going a menu style pricing. Ps...what was cod & chips at the normal price's plus drink?
Nice video thanks . I thought the fish was small and the chips were what I'm used to leaving for the pidgeons . But nice little find . It's hard I so want to help small businesses and this was not bad . I recommend Camden town for a munch
Actually popped into here on my way to Heathrow for a flight back in July. Went into the restaurant section, which was WAY more expensive (22.50 for fish chips, curry sauce and a bottle of coke). But I enjoyed them quite a bit. Agree on the greasiness though. Gave it a 7.5/10
Macca, that looked great and sounded great (nice crunch) good looking chips and I thought the portion size looked great, great price too for the smoke but come on southern chippies, take the skin off ! 9/10 👍🏻
Can't beat that price and the quality is not bad at all. I think I'd need to bulk it up with an extra side though but as is the main point of the vlog it's a good cheap meal. 7.5 for me 👍 cheers Lee
Good value for money Lee. Chips a bit pale and fish a bit thin, but still value for money. When you're next in London get yourself over to Brockley's Rock in Brockley South London or send DJ for quality fish n chips.
Not saying that this place is not selling Cod , but be very aware with a box of Cod costing upwards of 20% more at the moment. Pollack is sometimes passed off as cod,and also basa fish from Asia. Pollack comes from the same cold waters as Cod. If in doubt ask the owner to see his empty box. Info from my local Chipper, trimmed in the shop, off cuts to Cod bits. At 10.10 the fish looks grey not thick and white? Next time up Town I will give it a try.
Coley is a popular replacement they sell as cod illegally, it's from the same family as cod but not as tasty. Far too many chippies are doing this and need to be held to account.
2:55 Brilliant idea Mr Mac in showing the QR Code, so much easier to read the menu. That "mini Cod" looked bigger than most regular fish that you have had before, a bargain @ £6.50. Looked really nice Lee, great value too be honest I don't mind with or without the skin on. Personally I think the skins adds flavour to the fish It's a 10 from 👍🏻👍🏻😁
That looked good for the money anyway worth £6.50 for sure especially in London. On Wednesday I went to Whitby's Fish and Chip restaurant at Catclife Rotherham for my mum's birthday and that was good I recommend it. I found I was marking it in my head like you 😂. Good Curry sauce I would say lol. I had Cod, Chips and Curry sauce anyway. My mum had Plaice which was that big her Chips came on a separate plate lol.
That place is just near my place, it's definitely not cheap at all, they do special offers for lunchtime and, to be honest, it's about average prices for lunch special offers! they are nice though and they make good quality food.
What ? 9:50 for all that ?? I'll be in Belfast tomorrow & I'm going to try real English fish & chips hopefully under 9:50 . Definitely wooden fork Lee . I'm going to buy some to take back to US
Theselunch time special have become a standard across the UK now and I think they are a great idea. But, even better when you get something to make a butty with.
Let’s see, for the price can’t go wrong. Was going to knock it for a point as no gravy … controversial 😁… but did appear on the menu. Size for me would be ample, generous portions of chips leave me bloated so prefer that sort of size even for dinner. Think without tasting it would have gone 8.5 . Either way defo a winner👍🏻
Have to agree with the MacMaster - you can get great food from all over the world in London, but it's rare to get good fish n chips. Good to see he's found a decent one here.
Lee, I just had to scout some of your old vlogs for fish n Chip restaurants (hope u don’t mind) & I’m making quite a list between your spots & Darren John’s recommendations (Off The Charts)…Gigs I certainly can see myself giving a good try & what I see on value, presentation & meal a very solid 9.5/10…Cheer, 😎👍🇨🇦
You know what Lee you can't moan at any meal costing £6:50, you have been to other chip shops and the large fish is the same size as that, and you always have to eat fish n chips outside or in your car
Nice to see the skin left on, a decent serve of fish and chips, well cooked, quality. peas, curry sauce ok. Price was good for London. From me it is a 8.
A 2 biter in Fitzrovia W1 for £6? Not too bad at all. Sausage in batter looked amazing. Do you ever do that thing Lee where there's 4 or 5 fish on display and you've spent a good 3 minutes eyeing up the BMI of what's on offer...and you point to the largest, 'No mate not that one, the one next to it, no no...the next one along' like a big greedy bastard? Got to be done
The words World Famous and cheap made me very nervous. So, I started praying that they would have mushy peas and curry sauce. And lo and behold. They did. 8
Looked great value. Would be happier if they didn't use plastic knife and fork and polystyrene container... They should think of the planet. Overall not the best IMO so surprised they have won awards. Thanks Lee. Great video. Phil
mini fish for £6.50 and every piece of fish was pretty much the same size and shape - its what's referred to in the trade as 'bought in fish pre-battered and frozen' sold as 'mini' and ready to be sold for £6.50
Nice one Lee , I think that chippy was there in the 80s the name jogged my memory I lived at Cleveland square in Paddington and I used to take train to central London , I believe goode st or goodg street station, was inexpensive then good for hungry college students LOL

The skin has all the goodness oils vitamins etc
@@billymccoy9663 OK as long as it's crispy.
Had fish and chips from Micky's Fish and Chips near Paddington station 4 weeks ago and they were pretty good got given tartare sauce in sachets.
Perfect portion size for lunch and amazing value for money. The Kebabs also sound good, esp. as they're Greek Cypriot.
Wots happening with the BIG SMOKE thought you was filming on set of 15 yrs later (28 weeks later was 2007)lol Mac. Quality video again Lad.
Great vlog Lee. FYI - that part of London you were in (Fitzrovia) has some beautiful old pubs.
Being an ex Londoner, I would always have Rock Salmon. I miss that so much. The West country doesn't sell it. 30 years not having it.

Airconditioning units heat as well as cool and far more energy efficient than conventional methods. I heat my garage and office using a/c only

Another quality vlog, was only 0.4 away from hitting the score. Went for Fish And Chips myself this afternoon so I could practically taste yours lol.
It looks lovely and well worth the price especially for London I’d give it a 9/10. I love the skin on the fish 😋😋😋😘😘😘
Hi lee, they looked great value for money, good crunch to batter, could actually hear it, 8out of 10, perhaps a bit high, but I'm bloody starving watching

Just round the corner from my office. Must give it a try, I tend to go to the street food market on Tottenham Court Road for a Peruvian Curry.
Great vlog Lee those fish and chips looked very good has to be a solid 9 👍👍👍I’m off to los christianos on the 1st of July can’t wait 😎😎
Skin left on is usually frozen at sea fish … of which we should embrace as it’s sustainable and ethical ….not day trawler or long line trawler
I always prefer the skin left on fish and always thought it added flavour?
I said to the wife, what are you giving Lee for a rating today. She said 9/10. It looked great....enjoy it Lee.
Fish and chips with sauces and a drink for under a tenner..........in central London. Well done to the chippy, it just shows that it can be done. For that its a 10 from me.
We deffo need places like this at the moment. Good honest grub at an honest price.
I went up the Post Office Tower when it had the revolving restaurant was amazing 😉 Take out is the best 😊👍
Looked really nice and well worth the 💰. Great price for London. Good to see proper chips feel cheated if they use frozen chips
Great stuff, as always, Lee. Another time you should try the Peruvian Grill in the street food market, just around the corner from Gigs in Tottenham Court Road. Their spicy chicken is the best!
Went there myself some years back. Tbh, the chips weren't that good then, but perhaps it was an off day. Might try it again when I get down the smoke!

I just finished my fish & chips from Leo burdock in Dublin. OMG yours looks much better .

Ah yes you’re back in London. I am gonna miss the Florida Vlogs, but at least you’re still doing fish and chip vlogs, takeaways etc. 👍🏼
Liverpool makes the best Fish n' Chips
The problem with Trip Advisor and such like, is you get a lot of people visiting from other countries, they don't realise that there is better out there, in different regions.

Hi, Lee. That looked a very decent fish and chips indeed. Great price. Whats there not to like?. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from Scotland.
Lee,good value at £6:50 everything looked nice and eatable, but was it enough if you were hungry could you have done with going a menu style pricing.
Ps...what was cod & chips at the normal price's plus drink?
IM addicted to FIsh thanks to Lee....Looking fwd to this one xxx
Nice video thanks . I thought the fish was small and the chips were what I'm used to leaving for the pidgeons . But nice little find .
It's hard I so want to help small businesses and this was not bad . I recommend Camden town for a munch
Never thought about it but yes, skin on does seem to be the norm in London. I personally like the skin so long as the batter is crispy.
Actually popped into here on my way to Heathrow for a flight back in July.
Went into the restaurant section, which was WAY more expensive (22.50 for fish chips, curry sauce and a bottle of coke). But I enjoyed them quite a bit. Agree on the greasiness though.

Depends if you eat them outside in Bridlington. It becomes Hitchcock’s Birds. Terrorised by seagulls.
Wow that was amazing for £6.50 in London. It shows that restaurants can sell great food cheap and build there repatriation up. Instead of being Greedy
if they weren't world famous they are now since you talked about them, I missed the chat . Have a good day Lee
Macca, that looked great and sounded great (nice crunch) good looking chips and I thought the portion size looked great, great price too for the smoke but come on southern chippies, take the skin off ! 9/10 👍🏻
I quite like the skin on the fish Lee. Most chippy’s have it on here in Birmingham and Solihull. Great review as always mate. I’ll give it a 8/10.
Can't beat that price and the quality is not bad at all. I think I'd need to bulk it up with an extra side though but as is the main point of the vlog it's a good cheap meal. 7.5 for me 👍 cheers Lee

£2.80 for small chips (one potato) were they served up on a gold platter ? They are as people say 'having a giraffe'
More flavour and no waste with skin on but it’s a personal preference great 👍 for 6.50
The score was about right I thought a 7.8 as there were good reviews for the awards also as you say London amazing price another good vlog lee 👍
Used to work in the building across the road, weekly trip there for lunch time fish n chips and a beer. 🙂 Good chippy!
It’s funny to see you lee walk past eggo land where another northern V logger travelled to eat.

That meal is incredible value and was expecting the quality to suffer considering the overheads etc in London, looks great
Looked great value, restaurant looked great too!
2:55 Brilliant idea Mr Mac in showing the QR Code, so much easier to read the menu. That "mini Cod" looked bigger than most regular fish that you have had before, a bargain @ £6.50. And please, please can you get over your phobia of Skin on fish, and fat on bacon. Skin on is normal .. lived in London for 51 years and that’s what you get … curry sauce ffs !!}> it’s London my good friend… not LEEDS LOL 😂 GOOD VIDEO MY NORTHERN FRIEND

Soon as I get home from work quick shower, the miss's can we watch a film..? Yes the mac masters has a new 1 video out lol 😆 love it
That place is just near my place, it's definitely not cheap at all, they do special offers for lunchtime and, to be honest, it's about average prices for lunch special offers! they are nice though and they make good quality food.
What ? 9:50 for all that ?? I'll be in Belfast tomorrow & I'm going to try real English fish & chips hopefully under 9:50 . Definitely wooden fork Lee . I'm going to buy some to take back to US
London is ridiculously expensive. I paid about 4 quid for a can of Coke there once. It worked out at about 75 pence per swig.
Nice one Lee!
Fish didn’t look that mini to me, quite a decent portion and the crunch of that batter! Num Num!
What a bargain! Grand job!👍😊
Looked good for London prices , curry looked nice not the usual "brown liquid" 8/10 :)
Theselunch time special have become a standard across the UK now and I think they are a great idea. But, even better when you get something to make a butty with.
Amazing value and looked good. My local on the Isle of Skye charges £14 for haddock and chips and is not very good.9/10.
Great value and decent portion size. Worth a 7 or an 8 out of 10 I would say 👍
Looked good value for London but batter looked that casing stuff, I prefer the bubbly type, skin on is a no no too.
Cracking value 👍
Have to agree with the MacMaster - you can get great food from all over the world in London, but it's rare to get good fish n chips. Good to see he's found a decent one here.
10 from me Baz, looked absolutely wonderful.
I remember walking to a park close to my Grandparents house and seeing the Post Office Tower...I haven't seen since it since.
I guess it will be extra busy on good Friday
Looks very good to me…. And excellent value …I’d give it 10/10
For the price a great meal nice crispy butter let down by leaving the skin on. And a good size portion for lunchtime. 8
Nice to see the skin left on, a decent serve of fish and chips, well cooked, quality. peas, curry sauce ok. Price was good for London. From me it is a 8.
I can remember when you could get 24 portions of fish and chips for a pound !
eating fish with that little wooden fork is a nighmare it goes cold before you get half way through the fish right move switching it up
I was given finger for eating
Not surprised it was that cheap, looks like they sliced an already thin piece of fish with a razor.
Can't expect too much for that price in London.
Good value for London. The owners may have come from Greece originally, but the fish was still in Grease, regrettably.
I love the skin on fish mate can't find a chippy in nottingham that sells it anywhere you know
hey mr macmaster, you should try out superfish in mordon high street its brilliant
Thanks Lee.
Great video.

mini fish for £6.50 and every piece of fish was pretty much the same size and shape - its what's referred to in the trade as 'bought in fish pre-battered and frozen' sold as 'mini' and ready to be sold for £6.50
Try McDermotts in Croydon, south London. They are known for their amazing fish and chips!
Hi Lee. Didn't look as if there was much fish in it. But can't complain I suppose for the price. Hope you had a nice day. 🥰🌞🥰Xxx
