I GOT TO MEET THEM! ❤ I was a huge fan of Paul Simon as a teenager in the late 90's and early 00's. I grew up in a one horse town in northern California and LBM was going to perform in San Francisco. Our Choir teacher, a retired professional vocal coach, knew some people, pulled some strings, and was able to get them to come to our high school for a last minute concert. Almost no one had ever heard of them. I- on the other hand - was first in line for tickets. I purposely got a balcony seat so I could do all the dance moves without anyone seeing me. Afterwards, I chased after them and they gave me a photo of the group and each member autographed it for me. Still one of my prized possessions.
I remembered when my dad used to play their songs whilst we were kids, I could literally sing all their songs even as a Nigerian child, I love them so much, I stumbled on them today and all I have is memories, LEGENDS
Paul Simom caught lightening in a bottle with his African collaboration. Even musical savant in the Motherland are still scratching their heads to this day. This music will always have an audience. Paul Simon et al rocks.
I must thank my mother for being cultured enough to make me watch this when I was a little girl when this tour first aired. I have refferred to it so many times over the years. Such good music it just warms the soul**warm n fuzzies**
Same here. Thanks 🙏 to my mom. I watched this concert at age 11 on VHS TAPE & fell in love. Always watch it after 4-5 years & still cry tears of joy. The melodies, talents (artist-musical genius) in this concert is beyond measure
I've been fortunate enough to have seen them 6 or 7 times since I first discovered them through this concert and the Graceland album. They are proof positive that for all of the advancements made in musical instruments and electronics, the must powerful musical weapon is still the human voice.
Am a Cameroonian and my uncle always played thier marvelous somgs every Morning and evening so i became use to. Am now alone but i played it nit just morning and evening, but all through the day. I love thier vocals, tongues, moves. Thier tooo sweet to listen. Go to the world the black mambazo
Ah, LBM just performed tonight outside Washington DC and the sound was tremendous. Nine voices, no instruments, and their beautiful power goes through your soul. Plus their message is of God, togetherness, love, family and joy. The lead singer had his three grown sons in the group, one of whom is taking his place as front man. I felt privileged to hear them hear their famous "Homeless" and all the other songs.
I was fortunate to see them in a small 900 seat classic turn of the century (19th) Portsmouth NH Music Hall. I volunteered to usher and got to hang around after the show. I had tears coming down my cheeks too. Their music touches someplace in me that no one has ever done. I think it is the beauty of their harmonies.
GOD BLESS LADYSMITHBLACKMAMBAZO! My father got me interested in this concert! THIS was a fantastic concert that should have made history!!! I was 3 when i saw this on tv and i am now 24. History!!!
Do happy I found this again 🥹my dad always played this when I was just a kid and am so glad I could still remember something this beautiful ❤️❤️the originality is just amazing
This is legendary. Zim had always been overwhelmingly fond of our musicians. I didn’t know this was in Harare. How blessed we are to have Black Mambazo and lasting through generations and proudly representing Africa all over the world
Fantastic singers, these three!!! You can feel the love that these three have for one another!!! Thank you Dolly, Emmylou and Linda, for your highly valued contributions to Music on earth!!!
Great singing, these guys should be place in the guiness book of world records for best acapalo group. I haven't check but I think they are in there already.
my dad video taped this and i watch ever so often,,,,,,,,,they are my favorite group,,,,,,they never cease to amaze with their harmonization,,,it's wonderful
I never get tired of listening to this awesome, tear provoking piece... these guys bear a mark of passion in what they do. I enjoy them more from 2:09, especially 3:04 when Shabalala appears to have reached a climax... excellent vocal harmony... can't stop repeating it... thanks for uploading
I did my first trip to South Africa in 1986. I attended a clandestine theatre show in Cape Town titled "Asinamali". Blew me off stupid; I loved it. i was only 23 years old then. Paul Simon's album came out briefly after that, and then I realised that part of the "Asinamali" people were in fact the Ladysmith Black Mambazo :)
Joseph brought strength into my life. As a Sierra Leonean child in the early 1980s, he thought me now to fight suppression and political bullies. He made me aware about racism. Listen to him sang his song with the black mambazo band.. made me fall inlove with South Africans. From his musics I also fall in love with lucky dube. The sad part is that i only found out that he passed away few min b4 typing this message. Love u Joseph. Love u ladysmith black mambazo.
I love their music, Tyvm for uploading this clip so we can all enjoy the brilliant artists and their sounds and culture. Music makes the world go round..
I'm 45 now when this came out I was 8 or so I use to sing the shit outta these songs my friends thought u was nuts im from long beach California lol my father raised ne with knowledge of self I was drawn to this stuff
La musica es una expresion del alma, es real y profunda, es creible y confiable, es un acercamiento perfecto....somo iguales ante la belleza de las expresiones de arte....felicitaciones....
We all have different musical tastes. I happen to like Ladysmith Black Mambazo and this song, some people do not - and that does not mean that those people are racist. It simply means that, for whatever reason, they do not like this piece of music.
I wonder how Paul Simon feels today that all the prominent personalities he shared the stage with during that historical concert back in 1987 on that hot Saturday afternoon at Zimbabwe's Rufaro Stadium, Harare are all gone. RIP Joseph Tshabalala (Ladysmith), Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela and Ray Phiri (Stimela.)
Merci pour ce video de Ladysmith Black Mazambo et Paul Simon. Cette chanson m`a toujours profondement touchee. Definitly one of my best loved songs in the world. Danielle Damohicane du Quebec.
I would love a translation of this song. It has always been one of my favorites because of the harmonies. I would just love to know what they are saying!
This song talks about a girl who left her boyfriend and went to the city(JOHANESBURG) and not come back to see him not even wrighting a small letter to him.
