And that' crazy girl in a black and white stripy shirt and black skirt, smoking an imaginary cigarette is Ksenia Parkhatskaya and her colleagues jamming at the Paris Jazz Roots swing dance event in 2015.

You might wonder what is the dance? We are at a swing dance event in Paris and we are doing authentic jazz dance: jazz, Charleston, black bottom, soft shoe, tap.

Um… apart from her ‘shuffle my feet really quickly’ trick, what is she actually doing? They all pick up the routine at the finale and she totally bails and decide to… surprise surprise… shuffle her feet really quickly.
@@ah7910it more than just a quick shuffle. She's using her whole body. Even those head snaps are perfect. She's definitely got the spirit of this down more than the others IMO, and her moves just look more impressive. Maybe technically they arent, I have no idea, but the only one coming close to me is the first guy.

@@johnbauman4005 In my readings, in the mid-to late 19th century, in France, certain stage and street dancers of African origin were referred to as Gandy dancers (Letrec has one or more immortalized in his paintings).
I'm trying to recall if the composer DEBUSSY alludes to Gandy dancers in his GOLLYWOG CAKEWALK. Will research and let you know. Thanks!

Thank you to the commenter who put the link to the original video up because I have studied film of black dancers from as early as the 20's and although there were some talented white dancers like Fred Astaire, NONE were moving like this! Especially the move you see the skilled 1st white woman do in that original clip, that was done by a black dancer known for his oversized shoes and thus moved that way.
I love performances like this-the audience enjoying the music and dancers, the dancers just having fun, and the musicians enjoying playing for them
Think about how many of us had grandparents who danced like this in the 20s, 30s and 40s. They were rocking it like these people! Wow!😎
My grandmother was a Flapper. My great grandmother made all her dresses by hand. She had beautiful legs and passed them to my mum! Miss them both.
That’s a beautiful sentiment, but I can promise you that most (not all) people could NOT dance like this! lol. These guys are top of the line (especially white sneakers).

More than likely, your grand parents didn't dance this way. During that time this was how blacks danced....and a select group of whites in the U.S and Europe who were into this music and dance.

I’d love to see the white sneakers dance without having to yield to 5 guys jumping in her way every time she was getting warmed up. lol. They were all amazing but she clearly had more to offer. As for me, I’m off to waste time watching strangers dance the Charleston for the next half hour… 😂

These are all very fun to watch but there’s one true dancer and entertainer out there and that is the stunning woman in the white tennis shoes. Wow! What amazingly captivating facial expressions and theatrics to go along with the mind bending moves! Absolute genius with her feet and beautiful too 🥰 Those other folks are doing some hoofing but she’s killing it; telling stories about Speakeasy’s and the 1920’s with her cigarette and gum chewing…brilliant!!!! She’s the kind of lovely that made the 20’s roar!!!!

In the 1920s many of your grandpa's and grandmas were jamming to this and moving so fast they lit the floor on fire. They may be old fogies now, bent over and slow moving, hard of hearing and smell funny. But they were at one time cool and with it and jamming to the latest tunes.
So great to have finally found the actual dancer to follow and support instead of just being charmed whenever this would show up elsewhere at random.

I'm totally impressed by the way they all dance side by side without tripping each other with their legs flying around in all directions. If I could dance like that, I would definitely need my own space. Lol

Not everyone appreciated it, some people were too stuffy and religious and some didn’t like the fact that this style of dance and music was pioneered by black people

Man 2015 was a much better year than now. Simpler times, seemed like most of the world's problems, while being accounted for, were swept aside and everyone seemed much happier. I miss those days, though not all that long ago.

I watch all of your videos on TikTok and liked them so much I went to YT looking for them. It does hit differently with the jazz music over the tecno music.
It seems like the ladies were taking turns while the guys danced, waiting, but when the ladies danced, the guys just danced, crowding her.

no doubt all of these dancers have a lot of talent, but Ksenia makes it look effortless. seriously she looks like the bottom half of her is detached from the top half, and dancing like it's no one's business. it's almost like watching an old cartoon. most of the other dancers look like they have to put in a bit of effort to get the results, but she looks like she could shuffle her way from bed to the kitchen while still half-asleep. THAT is talent.
