I’ve been waiting for this! Jaynestown is my favorite episode, mostly because I’ve been a fan of Adam Baldwin ever since watching Chuck when I was younger. Speaking of, I would throw that in the hat for a future show one day, great little nerd show. Can’t wait for the rest of these and then Serenity!
And he’s really nice. I met him at comic con a few years ago and I didn’t realize they would need cash for autographs, I was disappointed, and then he asked me what my favorite show was, grabbed a photo, signed it, and handed it to me. Got a picture too. Best comic con experience I’ve ever had.
I'm all for both couples going on (Mal and Inara, Simon and Kayley). Both women have shown to have very strong identities of their own and won't change themselves for acceptance by potential mates. The funniest part of "Jaynestown" for me is when the entire bar picks up the chorus for "The Hero of Canton" song. That's when Wash and the others realize the entire town thinks Jayne is a hero (that they all know the song). In "Our Mrs. Reynolds", everybody I've seen react, and those I talk to about it, just audibly groan when Mal misses Inara's obvious hints she wants him to kiss her. Even me, who can't read women's signals at all caught it.
It's one of my own theories that Mal actually knew that Inara had kissed him, and that the end scene between the two of them was Mal playing with her, trying to get Inara to openly admit what had happened.

I remember my parents would often send us to be early to watch shows that weren't child appropriate. This was my favorite because the theme song is so pleasant. When i actually started watching it with them i loved it even more.
It's not actually clear if anyone else in the town knew her, or how long she'd even been there. She could have been skulking around, threw on a disguise, and snuck into the celebration without anybody noticing once she found a mark.
One of my favorite tv shows. I'll never forget when my wife and I were watching The Train Job. When Mal kicked Crow into the intake, I sat up on the couch. That was the first time a hero had ever done that, that I've seen. That's when I fell in love with it and loved ever episode, after that. The movie killed it for me. As a stand alone movie, it's great, but I refuse to tie it to the series. As much as I love the show, I'm glad it stopped when it did. I don;t like Joss and hated his other shows. Deep down, I knew if it kept going, he would end up wrecking it, so to me, it ended on a high note. Untarnished and perfect.
She is not only in Mad Men, she is also in Life. Season 2, the last one. Life is what he was sentenced to, and life is what he got back. Brilliant TV show with Damian Lewis.
30:45-When I started watching firefly, I had no idea it was only one season and I was devastated when the last two episodes played I couldn’t I couldn’t even stand it.
That’s hilarious - I haven’t watched the show in ages but as soon as I thought to myself, “he’s pretty jacked for someone who’s been locked in a boxed for years” we get essentially the same comment in the video. Glad it’s not just me! (But for real he would be so atrophied…)
Have you ever watched "Cool Hand Luke" or any show with the hot box in a prison camp? he would have been used for manual labor until he dropped, then thrown back in the box when he got surly. He would have been kept alive out of spite by the Magistrate as an example to the Mudders. When Jayne showed up alive and whole, he had to be disgraced before the Mudders flipped the script. Magistrate couldn't go after him directly and make him a martyr, but freeing his partner-in-crime to get his vengeance... The magistrate could then kill him and close the circle.
@@CaptainFrost32 yeah - keeping him in the box 24/7 and feeding him doesn't make sense - there's no profit in it. Working him as a slave and putting him back in the box in between shifts makes money off him.
People have been asking for a long time to bring it back.. that said, it would be nearly impossible to capture that lightning in a bottle again after all this time, sometimes it's alright to just have a finite thing that we love, not everything has to be beaten like a dead horse for us to let it go.
I'm of mixed feelings about a reboot. I'd love to see more stories in this universe, and more stories focused on the underbelly of a scifi universe rather than the kings and generals. I think it's been too long to continue with the original cast and their original dynamics. You'd have to rework most of the characters (Simon, River, Innara, Kaylee) so much they would essentially be new characters anyways. As far as Joss Whedon goes, he wouldn't have to be involved. While the original concept and design was mostly Whedon, Tim Minear was the showrunner and did most of the day to day work. He's really been the "face" of the production side of Firefly since the show went off the air.
All of the above reasons and conditions make "Firefly" ripe for the "re-imagineers" who have SUCH a great track record when they try to re-plow the original field. I'm off to catch episodes of the "U.S.S. Doritos," the flakiest ship in Starfleet. (The U.S.S. Doritos ran away from a "Wolf 359" situation!?)
The trash that gets pushed out these days in the name and chuck full of political propaganda. I would rather this show dies than gets that sort of treatment.
@@MrGBH The difference being, back in the day writers knew how to get their message across. By being subtle. Having interesting multidimensional, characters with arcs and flaws. These days "the message" gets the priority, story is half assed and if it's a female character it can not have flaws or growth, must start perfect and stay the static self. And if it's a white male, can't be competent. With such rigid religious framework, all you produce is garbage for the simple minded. If you can't see it, odds are you are amongst the target audience. I lived in soviet union, and even there, the propaganda in movies wasn't even close to as obvious and hamfisted as the garbage the woke crowd puts out these days.
Firefly is an object lesson in how a network's presentation choices can destroy an otherwise good series. I disliked it immensely when it came out because it made no sense, but then I learned that it made no sense because the network chose to show it to me out of order and... yeah. Grrr. Could've been amazing. Side note, your predictions about where Saffron's con was going were AMAZING. :)
I love your hand gestures when you’re figuring out it’s Christina Hendricks. Whether intentional or subconscious that’s typically the first way to spot a Christina Hendricks.
Fun fact, Jayne, Mal and Wash all did voiceovers for Halo. Mal at one point played Sgt. Reynolds. Wash played a pilot, Jaynes a soldier that's says, "come get a taste of Vera" as he's shooting Also who the heck could hate Simon? Uppity? Sure, but add to that a completely selfless human being of gave up everything for his little sister
Almost all of them are on the same level, imo. It is a great show. Hard to say which is absolute best. But I would say "Our Mrs. Reynold's" is among the top top 3 for me.
You can sign up on one of two spaceships: The "Bebop," to experience the Bounty Hunter world with "Big Shot For Bounty Hunters." Not different enough? Sign on to Alterra's capital ship, "Aurora" as Ryley Robinson, the Non-Essential Systems Maintenance Chief in "Subnautica." Ryley's journey will trigger every "Fear of the Unknown" phobia you know about. (Or thought you knew about. Do you know what "Thalassophobia" is, by the way?)
Same level for reactors that split single movies into two videos and pretend it's because theres too much to talk about, yet leaving the videos with a combined total runtime of under 25 minutes. I hate them the most. You, Me and the Movies are the opposite. Don't leave me feeling like they are trying to milk as much ad revenue as possible.
There are rumblings of a reboot now that Disney owns the franchise. No word on whether it would be the same cast or a different one, though I think the actor who played Shepherd Book passed away
We're at the point of "I love this show"! Whoo hoo! I got there on The Train Job to be honest but I'm glad you're here now. Looking forward to the rest of the episodes :)
I'm glad that the Mrs. loves this show. One of my favorites... and I think it's short length is a blessing in a way. It's like a really great love affair that burned twice as bright. If it had gone on for five or seven seasons it may have burned itself out. What we got, was pretty well written. And i've always hoped they would NEVER try to recapture the magic of it. Leave it be. It's 20 years old now, basically.
I would love to see it come back but have 20+ years go by with maybe children of the crew now 18+ years old running the ship. Maybe have them as part of a new rebellion and smuggling is just a cover. The original surviving crew could make guest appearances with some of them leaders/members of the new rebellion.
A reboot would never live up to the original. And there's no way Joss would be involved with the reboot. So no I hope Disney doesn't go through with rebooting Firefly, they couldn't come close to capturing what the original had.
@@kvnkaveman Disney would ruin Firefly if they ever got their hands on it. There is no way they could have made Firefly, as it was, now. It would be Firefly in name only.
As the con goes, I've always had the general impression/inference that the town leader didn't go to mentioning Saffron because she wasn't actually wedded off in trade. I think she just integrated herself there for a while, showed up to the party, and played the pretense from there after selecting Mal and the ship as a target herself. It's a place where Mal clearly has old friends that he's happy to help out for free/just for the return favor of some friendly hosting and fun gifts, so I think we can be confident that the townspeople wouldn't have had any part in an elaborate setup on purpose.
@@nicholassmith7984 I can only think of one inconsistency. It definitely is a continuation of the series. Nowhere, from any involved, has anyone suggested it was a ‘soft reboot.’ (And that one inconsistency can be easily explained away with some creative thinking.)
The thing is, you're assuming it's using our current gunpowder. It's been 500 years. Much like how current gunpowder replaced black powder, a new accelerant is being used which is superior than gunpowder but has some drawbacks.
What's more, is even if he did need oxygen, then how did he fire the next 3 shots into the cabin porthole? Any oxygen in the suit would have immediately vacated via the whole the bullet made in the suits visor.
@@NathanS__ I highly doubt that a space faring civilization would develop ammunition that couldn't be fired in a vacuum, especially when we have ammo that can be right now, as the guy above us pointed out.
One of the distinct things people notice is that actions in space have no sound effects. By firing from inside the suit, it doesn't violate the standard to the viewers. Someone in another comment section mentioned a possibility, not about the gunpowder needing air, but preventing the barrel from damage by vacuum welding.
Disney, which now owns all of Fox's IPs, is currently in the process of creating something in the Firefly universe. Not necessarily a reboot--but that is certainly on the table. From what I read, it is likely going to be something like a Little House on the Paire spin-off. Joss Whedon is probably not going to be part of whatever it is because of the scandals surrounding him though.
@@sandwiched No big indicators of a deep understanding there. Just, no great sign of befuddlement either. He fell for Saffron's act, he has no great insight in dealing with River and we rarely see him interact in any meaningful sense with Zoey or Kayley. He has a couple of scenes early on with Inara but those are more focused on him. When it comes down to it he spends most of his time as Mal's advisor on worldly matters and counter when it comes to spiritual ones. I'd trust Book to get me in and out of a secret facility or help me fence stolen goods but I'd not be taking relationship advice.
Love your dinosaur top! 9:33 Actually he theme song says 'you can't take the sky from me'. The line about Serenity is 'I don't care, I'm still free/Since I found Serenity' 18:18 is Inara happy that Mal thinks Saffron kissed her, rather than her kissing him? Or would she rather he knew what really happened. To be fair, Saffron did come close to managing to kiss Inara. People need heroes, even if the truth doesn't quite measure up.
I think Inara would like to change (a little) to allow Mal in. But her profession would make that near impossible.
I love that during the epilogue of "Jaynestown," there's a slow, minor-key version of "The Hero of Canton" playing in the background.
@@ScottFerman Yep. Didn't notice that the first time I saw this episode. But I did catch it this time during the reaction.
Been waiting for you two to get to Jaynestown!
And within three seconds you have me chuckling with your hand gestures :D.
20:58 I was today years old when I noticed that the thumb points the wrong way on the mud handprint. Slapping someone else's back like that your thumb points up.
I think the town elder had no idea of what Saffron was up to, she was adept at fitting in, using people, and manipulating them.
After watching it again I think you’re right. I think she was conning the elder guy as much as Mal
@@MrsMovies her con skills are awesome! And way better than a "stupid-ass stick sounds like it's rainin'..." ;)
And another awesome Reaction from my favorite Reaction-Couple - it's so enjoyable to watch you two reacting to Shows and Movies - love it!
So sad that this "Firefly" Journey will be so short - hope it'll come back one day soon.
Greetings from Germany...
It's "You can't take the sky from me" - which is a great line :)
Don't forget the movie Serenity.
I remember my parents would often send us to be early to watch shows that weren't child appropriate. This was my favorite because the theme song is so pleasant. When i actually started watching it with them i loved it even more.
My favorite verse.....😅😅😅
6:53 Also hilarious. The look on Washes face was priceless.
21:45 another good one.
Zoey and Wash are the best couple.
I don’t think the bandits being killed at the beginning was part of the con. I think they just target any captains who are drunk
It's not actually clear if anyone else in the town knew her, or how long she'd even been there. She could have been skulking around, threw on a disguise, and snuck into the celebration without anybody noticing once she found a mark.
3:02 Amazing! Her predictions are usually really good.
The next 3 episodes are in my top 5. Looking forward to your reactions 😂
The introduction of my favorite crew member "Vera"
I like the fact that the camera switch to the full view of you and there is absolutely no reaction from you hahahaha
You guys are awesome lol. From my ranch outside Spokane to yours, I hope y'all are enjoying Firefly so far. 👍🏼
Jayne doesn't understand altruism or self-sacrifice. "There ain't people like that..."
That's not uncommon these days. People seem to champion the opposite.
Fit the Mrs. with a brown coat, she's one of us now. ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
She is not only in Mad Men, she is also in Life. Season 2, the last one. Life is what he was sentenced to, and life is what he got back. Brilliant TV show with Damian Lewis.
Your memories of Christina Hendricks was hilarious!!! Great review / reactions.
I loved her in the TV show LIFE. It was a bit park, but she did it so well.
Great reaction ya'll!
I recognized thos-, er I mean, her too!
Her two what?
Mr. : Note to self, buy Mrs. a 'brown coat'!
30:45-When I started watching firefly, I had no idea it was only one season and I was devastated when the last two episodes played I couldn’t I couldn’t even stand it.
So funny, Mrs Movies did the gesture I do when I'm leading into saying busty but instead I always say "enormous forearms..."
I go with "huge tracts of land"
@@Otokichi786 Do you mean the USS Cerritos, from Lower Decks? That wasn't at Wolf 359.
The trash that gets pushed out these days in the name and chuck full of political propaganda. I would rather this show dies than gets that sort of treatment.
@@raifthemad If you think this show wasn't political, you must've not been watching it
@@MrGBH The difference being, back in the day writers knew how to get their message across.
Her articulation.
I think that's American Sign Language for "Christina Hendricks".
Fun fact, Jayne, Mal and Wash all did voiceovers for Halo. Mal at one point played Sgt. Reynolds. Wash played a pilot, Jaynes a soldier that's says, "come get a taste of Vera" as he's shooting
Also who the heck could hate Simon? Uppity? Sure, but add to that a completely selfless human being of gave up everything for his little sister
These are the two best episodes!
Almost all of them are on the same level, imo. It is a great show.
Hard to say which is absolute best.
But I would say "Our Mrs. Reynold's" is among the top top 3 for me.
@@DocMicrowave our mrs reynolds is at the top, the rest of the episodes are amazing, although safe is probably my least favorite.
@@keenanbartlome8153 Same. Safe, though still good, was my least favorite as well.
Also, Heart of Gold. About the same level as Safe.
Ah, yeah, that moment when reactors realize that the show will soon be over...
"I love a fiddle...", don't we all - I guess not all of us advertise that fact on the internet though?!
"Thats why i never kiss em on the mouth"... A man after my own heart, on this Jayne and i agree.
"I swear by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you..."
She didn't even crack a smile, time for a divorce.
There is a special level of hell for reactors who talks over unstopped audio and having nothing really interesting to say.
You guys are safe. ;)
Amen. Unfortunately, that special level is pretty crowded.
@@libertarianvoter making it more hellish. Ever see cattle stampede when theres nowhere to go? Like a meat grinder.
There are rumblings of a reboot now that Disney owns the franchise. No word on whether it would be the same cast or a different one, though I think the actor who played Shepherd Book passed away
Mad Men would be an amazing reaction.
There are two runs of Firefly comic books, under different publishers, and now a series of novels.
We're at the point of "I love this show"! Whoo hoo! I got there on The Train Job to be honest but I'm glad you're here now. Looking forward to the rest of the episodes :)
Jayne and River? I think you mean Jayne and Vera 🤣🤣
Jayne would definitely treat Saffron appropriately.
YAY my favorite firefly episode with 2 of my favorite reactors on my birthday. :) today is complete.
I can't spoil the end, but one thing I will say is the actor that played Book passed away.
Ron Glass. I remember him from Barney Miller.
@@gawainethefirst As do I. MUCH funnier than "Brooklyn whatsizname.";)
The original surviving crew could make guest appearances with some of them leaders/members of the new rebellion.
it's amazing tho, doesn't feel that long ago
I can see it now: "Captain Malvina Reynolds" of the (much modified) Firefly-class freighter, "Tampopo," that looks like the "Millennium Falcon"!
Jayne & Vera are the best couple
For my part, don't want a reboot. I want season two.
“…you will burn in a very special level of Hell. The one reserved for child molesters, and people who talk at the theatre.”
Second best quote ever.
You two got a lot cuter recently. I like it.
If there is a reboot, Ron Glass couldn't be a part of it because he passed away. Plus, after the series, there is still the movie Serenity.
I can't decide if Serenity is a true sequel or a soft reboot. There are so many inconsistencies between it and Firefly.
@@nicholassmith7984 I can only think of one inconsistency. It definitely is a continuation of the series. Nowhere, from any involved, has anyone suggested it was a ‘soft reboot.’ (And that one inconsistency can be easily explained away with some creative thinking.)
@@nicholassmith7984 I'd say that it's a continuation, instead of a sequel. It did more to give fans some closure on some instances.
@@p.mc.4449 Though if it's a continuation, the timeline is all wrong (or at least very hard to explain.)
@@MrEkitten Which inconsistency do you spot?
Since no one else has mentioned it one nit pick - Jane didn’t need a suit and oxygen around his gun. Gunpowder contains its own oxidizer.
@@a_Taveren It was a bullet sized hole, I don't think it would have rushed out that fast. Also, shout out to the name from WOT.
12:52 That look on his face! 🤣
Love your reaction
Well, good predictions there.
Theme song says, "You can't take the SKY from me."
Odd, though, as one can easily do so by locking a person in a cell.
Yes. Christina Hendriks is know for her large hands ♥ I think she use to be a roofer . . . .
Of the men on the ship, Wash is the only one who understands women at all. None of the others have a clue....
I dunno, how 'bout Shep?
@@sandwiched No big indicators of a deep understanding there. Just, no great sign of befuddlement either. He fell for Saffron's act, he has no great insight in dealing with River and we rarely see him interact in any meaningful sense with Zoey or Kayley. He has a couple of scenes early on with Inara but those are more focused on him. When it comes down to it he spends most of his time as Mal's advisor on worldly matters and counter when it comes to spiritual ones.
I'd trust Book to get me in and out of a secret facility or help me fence stolen goods but I'd not be taking relationship advice.
My favorite couple on the show is Zoe & Wash, but of course they're already together.
Love your dinosaur top!
9:33 Actually he theme song says 'you can't take the sky from me'. The line about Serenity is 'I don't care, I'm still free/Since I found Serenity'
18:18 is Inara happy that Mal thinks Saffron kissed her, rather than her kissing him? Or would she rather he knew what really happened. To be fair, Saffron did come close to managing to kiss Inara.
People need heroes, even if the truth doesn't quite measure up.
Wash and Zoe are something of a rarity in Joss Whedon shows, a married couple in a stable (well, mostly stable) relationship.
I never even considered River and Jayne, that would be an interesting day.
