In Tyldesley's defense, it seems that Markus Babbel's actions during the goal may have led him to believe the free kick took a deflection as it went in. As Babbel peeled off from the wall when Basler struck the ball, Schmeichel moved to the right, coinciding with Babbel's movement away from the United wall.
