- Chemical burns can be very harmful to the eye. In this episode of A State of Sight, Isaac Porter, MD explains the different types of chemical burns and how they can be treated.
It is important to flush the eyes for an extended period of time after a chemical exposure. Many work places that contain chemicals have an eye wash station that can be used to run streams of water into both eyes after an accident. It is important to keep the exposed eyes open in the water to dilute and remove the chemicals. After this, treatment in an emergency room or urgent care center may be necessary for significant burns. There, doctors will be able to assess the extent of the damage and can continue flushing the eyes if needed.
There are special contact lenses designed to irrigate fluid into the eye and these may be needed in emergency treatment. A thorough eye exam can show the extent of the burn and initial treatment is usually to decrease inflammation and prevent infection. After healing takes place, surgery may be needed to restore vision or the surface of the eye.

Hi good day yesterday I had a very bad experience with relxer it went into one of my eyes I went straight to the bath to get it out but did not go to the emergency room cuz of funds 😢 the eye is still hurting what should I do please help😢
I suffer from health anxiety. I fear I might go blind from having shampoo in my eye to having gasoline in my eye. I immediately rinse my eyes out every time I feel anxious. My OCD controls my life and I just want peace of mind. Is there any way anyone can go blind forever because of a chemical burn to the eye? Are those cases awfully rare or are they highly common?

Glad to know I'm not the only one. Well I not glad it happened to others but I'm glad someone can relate. Hi 2 days ago .. I got medium peel in my eyes I flush them as soon as I can put milk. . Then my eyes irritating and cloudy little bit. . now I feel good no conjunctivitis or cloudyness. .

I was blowing off the top of batteries on my golf cart where there was some corrosion on the wires. I was using an air compressor nozzle. A small spec of something hit my right eye and I immediately ran inside and ran water. I don’t know if it was the corrosion or something else but I’ve been running the water off and on for 10 minutes. What signs do I need to look for if something is wrong or if I’m fine? It’s Saturday and every eye place is closed
I went to get my eye flushed at ER & they gave me this cream but my question is am I suppose to try to blink normally or am I suppose to let me eye be closed ? & not force it

Hi Isaac. I got dishwashing soap in my eye that was on my finger when i rubbed it. It burned like he...andi rinsed and rinsed with saline. No more pain, but now my pupil is 3/4 dilated. What an i do?

No!!! Cataract what I see now with my bad eye is. Super cloudy everyone is 3shades lighter .with sun light its gets worse. I cant even make out word on my phone. If there is pain does it mean its healing if they see no damage?

I got a small spray of clorox bleach in my eyes, i've been washing my eyes every couple minutes for the past 20 minutes. But I don't know if the feeling in my eye is caused by the bleach burning or the constant water washing, should I go to the hospital now or wait another 30 minutes?
I have had exposure to an alkali chemical. Sodium Hydrodide (caustic soda), It was a chemical used in cleaning air cooled condenser coils. The chemical had spilled in my eyes and on my body, Upon arrival at the hospital my eyes read a PH of 13 as I was in severe pain. I have a sever abrasion on the eyes and I wanted to know how long will it take to heal? Is this permanent?

I got gasoline splashed into my eyes, i immediately rinsed my eyes and kept rinsing for about 10 minutes, then used those eye washer liquids where u let it soak your eyes for about a minute. Is there anything else i should do to prevent long term damage? Thank you

my mom mistook my lens cleaner as her contact solution and it hurts her left eye so bad and she couldnt even open her left eye without tearing up its actually :( so for those having similar experiences can yall tell me what did yall do?

I splashed my eye with Isopropyl Alcohol a few times before, nothing really happens but stings for atleast half a second.

This literally happened to me hours ago I accidentally set the bottle of Clorox down in a perfectly flat way and it splashed up and out of the bottle right into my left eye. It was so precise in going up so high too. It hurts so bad I flushed it in the sink immediately, but my eye uncontrollably just stayed closed afterwards. I hate this feeling. I've got such an irritation and it looks like (when i look in the mirror) that a layer of my eye lense is peeled away. Like, it is still shiny but it looks kind of rough in texture as to what it should be, which is a smooth glossy look. Hope it gets better. Got a masssive headache too :(

Hi, my eye was sprayed with gasoline almost 3 months ago. My left eye has been swollen since and increases with minimal touch. The swelling is under the eye lid with the corner area being the most sensitive. The gas was not completely rinsed for a few hours. Dr said 2 wait another month or 2. I'm scared. Any thoughts on what is going on?

I've gotten super glue squirt in my eye, blurred my right ball, water flushed it asap, went to hospital and waited 2 hrs and gave up waiting to see a doctor, started to see clear again by that time.

Plumber came to my house and poured spirit of salt down the drain (Hydrochloric acid) and the fumes is literally making my eyes watery, heavy and irritated. I don’t know what to do either

Fre0n Gaming I was not joking. I was cleaning my car battery cable that had white acid dust and a tiny piece of the copper cable broke off and flew right into my eye. The pain was unbearable. I washed my eye out for over 30 minutes . If that didn’t work I would was going to the emergency room but it worked. Thanks for your reply.
