Your channel is the best on RUclips 👍I've just turned 70 and started playing again after 30 years. The theory and chords are coming back but my brain hasn't told my fingers yet! Your dexterity and strengthening exercises have made a huge difference. I can't thank you enough for the help and motivation you've given me 😃 🇬🇧
So happy to hear that!!!
6.5 months in. Found set schedule didn’t work. If I missed it the rest of the day I wouldn’t practice. Instead I took advice for another you tube channel. Keep the guitar out viable. It’s right there and it works I pick it multiple times per day. So playing it 5-30 minutes several times a day.
Yes, keep the guitar out. Out of sight, out of mind.
@voska7390 I totally agree with you about the set schedule. That is too much like setting an alarm to go to work for me. I find that having my guitar out and available to pick up when I want to, works much better, and I find myself picking it up 5 to 10 times a day maybe for a few minutes at time, which works out much better for me.
Best teaching channel for guitar in RUclips. I was in the Marines and everything I learned was under pressure and chaos. With your channel I am learning how to play and it helps with PTSD. Thank you
Jesse thank you for your service. I've been told in my in-person lessons that I was a bit of a drill Sargeant. But I believe it is very important to have a target so you can hit it.
And she's hot
I'm at the end of level 4 on 7 level guitar system . speeding up my chord changers. fantastic course I'm 63 from New Zealand and had never touched a guitar before .
Aww I am so so happy to hear that!!!
Excellent advice . Thanks Lauren
You're so welcome!
Thank you Lauren! Recently found your channel, and really appreciate your approach.
You're so welcome! Happy New Year!
Great advice Lauren - Thank you.
You are so welcome.
I’m 63 and started to play Guitar. Your channel is very helpful and inspirational. Thanks
That's awesome!
If only I had your Patience. Thank you for teaching me.
I had many students who told me I have the patience of a saint. 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you Lauren.
You're so welcome!
Still early stages for me, but, having that pathway is key. Endlessly trying new things and learning in isolation, will, for most, end up in frustration and failure. KISS works here as well as other things in life. Am fortunate the I recently discovered that a near neighbour is a tutor. Some face to face is reassuring that you're doing the right things and making progress. And it's just 30 seconds from my door. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Knowing even experienced players are not always perfect is a help. Keep it up (but don't burn yourself out trying to keep this RUclips monster fed!).
Thank you for sharing!
I’m in the sixth level of Lauren’s 7-level guitar course and have signed up for the next level bundle after I finish the 7th level.
I’m very thrilled with my progress BUT I have tripped up a tad bit not following directions completely, so I need to return to earlier levels to refresh or learn what I missed. But that is one GREAT aspect of Lauren’s course! I can go back as many times as I want to refresh (or learn what I’ve missed) enhancing my muscle memory, at 66/7ish my muscle has mostly atrophied.
I can’t thank Lauren enough. She is fantastic! Never treats me like I’m an idiot or a pain in the arse, always answers my email;that’s amazing considering the THOUSANDS of students she has around the world. Holy shnite! One mod thing and I will stop, Lauren is kind. I like her. 😊
Awww thank you so so much for these kind words. I really appreciate that and so happy you bought the Next Level courses to jump into after the 7 Level.
Totally blind beginner here. I’ve commented on your posts in the past and I’m pleased to say I’m still sticking with it and will continue to do so. Your words make a lot of sense and I really needed to hear this today. I purchased a Martin Road series mx only a couple of days ago Because I’m so serious about learning to play. Thanks for your motivation, keep it up :-)
Stick with it... Learn 4 chords and get smooth at changing chords... You need to get some little wins as soon as possible 😊
Great to hear!
Lauren,
I really enjoy watching your videos and I’ve gotten a lot from them. I actually started playing guitar in 1976 when I was in seventh grade. It was the first class given in our school so I learned the basics and the teacher was pretty good. I even learned “take it easy” by the Eagles, because it was a fairly new song back then. The only thing I didn’t like was there was never another class that was more advanced. And my folks didn’t have the money to pay for a tutor for me. So I played for about 10 years off and on in life, got in the way. So I just played what I knew. I went in the army in 1983 and I served 20 years and I didn’t have a lot of time to play in those days. In 1986 I was stationed in Germany and someone stole my only guitar. And I gave up and I didn’t play again until 2022. It all came back to me pretty quickly and your videos have helped! So I want to thank you for what you’ve done. I guess I’m more of a strumer than a picker so far but I do know a lot of songs and some of them I’ve learned this year just from your videos. So thank you and keep doing the great work you’re doing.
Tim Girard
Tim, thank you for your service. I'm more of a strummer myself. So happy to be helping you learn to play. The best time to do something was 20 years ago but the next best time is today. You go this. Happy to be a part of your journey.
Great tips! I know I plan to set aside time each day to play the guitar. Trying to build the callus back up on my fingers but they toughen up quick. Love watching your videos and playing along. Thanks for all the hard work you do to help others learn guitar!!! ❤️🙏✌️
Glad it was helpful! :D
Danke! Thank you for so many tutorials ! Kind regards from Germany! 🙋♂️
Glad you like them!
Love the little red Camaro!
Just wanted to say thanks for your videos. After following your beginner advice, I’m miles ahead of where I’ve been previously, and I took 2 years of lessons when I got my first guitar back in the 90s. For the first time it’s starting to feel right when I play.
Great to hear!
Thank you so much for your encouragement! You're so good at explaining things, I wish you were also my dissertation supervisor 😅
Awww. I'm sure your dissertation will go well.
I really love the way you speak and the way you encourage the people who are really eager to learn how to play the guitar. I would absolutely love to watch all your lessons.
Thanks so much! :D
Keep it up teacher! I'm still have a lot to learn......u're the best teacher ever. Tqx1000.....

Hi Lauren i signed up for your 3 day workshop in August 2024....have been learning with you the last 6 weeks on youtube and plan on signing up for your 7 level course in next few days..Rock On Lauren BTW am 67 Y/O.
That's great! I'm really glad the videos are helpful :D See you on August!
Great 👍🏼 thanks
My pleasure!
Get your practice in early - good bit of advice. Being an ex Triathlete (too old now) and having a busy job job I always went out training early before going to work. That way I knew my training was done. Now 70, retired and starting to learning guitar I have more time on my hands. But I still have a daily schedule where I factor in two half hour practice sessions a day. if retired plan your day and keep busy. Ignore people who say you are too old to learn a new hobby. Do a bit of exercise, learn new skills. I am currently also attempting to also learn a new language - again half hour a day. I am terrible at attempting to learn my new skills but will not give up. I found you by accident a few weeks ago and your beginners 12 Bar Blues video inspired me not to give up. Do not let cost be a factor - you can find plenty of reasonably priced secondhand guitars. Thank you Lauren
You are so welcome David. I'm glad you loved the 12 Bar Blues video.
I started in 2020 &.. quit, Bc I wasn't learning anything.
Last week I was your video, teaching America - A Horse with No Name.
it made me want to try again, bc I really like the song.
Within the last few years, I learned to crochet.
I guess it made my fingers stronger, bc I no longer have any issues with the strings.
Great!
Thanks Lauren
You are welcome!
@@LaurenBateman Do you have a coupon code I could use to purchase your courses? Thanks again!
Hi Lauren. You’ve been such a help to me on my first year of learning guitar and I just wanted to thank you for that and all you give with your tutorials. Watching you in this video made me think of another guy who I’ve watched to learn, his last name escapes me atm, but it’s Steve something. Anyway. One of his biggest comments that helped me stick out those early months of learning was...... “commit to at least 5mins a day practice”. This was a great goal I took on board and tried to stick with and stilI do. I do miss days but don’t beat myself up about it. But try to stick to that rule. And of course once you pull out your guitar you generally play for much much longer that 5 mins. But it gives you a no pressure boost to try and pull it out everyday and just do a little even if your not in the mood. Similar to your suggestion of having set days to practice. But just thought I’d share that with you. Really helped me as a beginner. Thanks again. Your an amazing teacher. Love your work ❤
Thank you so much! I am always happy to help!
SO-Pick a day--Pick a Time-- build a progressive schedule-- I Coach XC/Track this is how we do it. THANK YOU YOU NG LADY God Bless
You are so welcome :D
Thanks again for all the great reminders. I am enjoying your 7 Level system. Still working through level three. By the way is a vintage Top Gun t-shirt you were wearing in one of the segments of this video?
It's not a vintage shirt in that it's original to when the first movie came out. I bought it at Target.

I like your videos ❤
Thank you, glad you liked them!
Fantastic shirt btw I'll put my sleeveless batman original style on and let's do this. Your so freaking awesome
Thanks so much!!
Just signed up for your mid level course!
Nice!!!! Good choice!!
That's awesome! Keep on rockin'!!
My super hero 💟
Hi, i like the part when you were talking about the keyboard warriors, true, but they are still good peoples around.
I Felt on your video randomly, but you just got a new follower. I play guitar for years, not that good, for fun. I might improve myself with you 😇
Thanks so much for sharing!! Glad I could help :D
I practiced a ton but I haven’t been playing anything but chords
That's OK. Working on chords is super helpful. Try adding in some strumming to the mix.
I bought an Ibanez RGRTB621 is that a good starter guitar??
I love Ibanez!
Hey Lauren, I'm from Germany. My Englisch is not so good. The recomended courses are videos? Or do I have to read a lot? How does the course work? 170 + Video. What does that mean. Could you please tell me? Thank you 💕Regine
They are video, just like here on RUclips. There is a workbook but a lot of it is exercises and diagrams.
Not gonna lie if I haven't stumbled upon this channel I would've learned slower.
Aww Angelo, so happy to help!!!
yep, coach Lauren is a rockstar (literally 😉)
That's because Lauren Bateman totally rules. Keep rockin' everybody.
Could you please do lemon heads Mrs. Robinson for beginners if you can.
Oh that's a great song!!!
Are you talking about the Lemonheads version or Simon and Gar funkle.
Any coupon code for the course?
I never discount the 7 Level Course. Only for veterans. We do has a discount code for veterans. Please email info @ laurenbateman.com
Hi, My Teacher Lauren 😊
I need some advice, What do you think, IF someone learn Fingerstyle first, than Learn Strumming ?
Is it easier and possible ? 🤔
Not sure if it's easier or not. You will work on timing both ways.
@@LaurenBateman I see.. Thanks Teacher Lauren,
Anyway, I just bought your (Finger picking 101), I hope it will help me to learn Fingerstyle quickly, I really love the sound of it.
Is it enough right ? To improve or master Fingerstyle only with your (fingerpicking 101 lesson) ? 😊
THANKS MAN THANKS EHEHEHE xD

You're welcome!
My problem is that I have trouble tuning the guitar
Awww try my crash course:
www.laurenbateman.com/crashcourse
Hy lauren plz play there is someone who love the just the way you are
Thank you for the recommendation. I get lots of song requests so I cannot guarantee that I will get to it, but I will definitely add it to my list
@@LaurenBateman thank you lauren i am waiting this is my fist request
If someone could please recommend me a program, my background is in coral singing. I can reach shoot music I can write sheet music I can sight read I know all the basic cords, and I know all the basics chords (a am bm c d e em f g) I know one or two fingerpicking techniques I know one or two strumming patterns pretty well i’ve never been able to play a riff yet although I’ve put like a total of 20 minutes into trying and I’ve been playing multiple hours a day since Thanksgiving it hasn’t been very long, but I do feel like I’m at a point right now where I need some kind of instructor becauseeverything I can find on RUclips at this point is either something so simple for me that I can’t even get into it or something so much more complicated than when I can do that I have no hope of doing it
I would recommend one of two things:
7 Level System: www.laurenbatemanguitar.com/courseyt - This is for those who still feel like they need a good foundation in chords, strumming and picking.
Next Level Courses: www.laurenbatemanguuitar.com/stage2 - For those who feel like they have a good feel for the basics but want to focus in more on learning barre chords, fingerpicking, more intermediate strumming, etc.
I tried for 5 years to learn to play the guitar, but made no progress whatsoever. Is there any reason to think that, if I tried again, this time I would get different results?
If you have a blueprint for what to learn, when and how, then yes the results will be different.
@@LaurenBateman so plugging away at the chord changes of a given song, with a metronome, is the wrong blueprint?
❤😊
Thanks for watching!
You don't need a degree to be wicked awesome.
Thanks for watching!
You are Dangerously Cute Lauren!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
I give up in the first 10 minutes.
Awwww 😞
