Lauren dont put yourself down as not being a good guitar player..as a cancer survivor as I am ( 2 cancers) you make a great teacher..you see things from different angles...
I'm 59 and I "re-started" playing the guitar this year, after a 45 year hiatus. I've been sucking up RUclips videos, your channel (which I love), other channels. I've learned "tablature", strums, chords, riffs, etc. I've got bloody finger tips, four guitars, now, and I'm doing what I should have done 50 years ago. Thanks, Lauren. You inspire me.
Do yourself and your fingers a favor; buy a set of Ernie Ball "Zippy Slinky" strings. They're the lightest strings you can get, and they don't sound any different than the heavier ones... they're just easier to frett. I've got them on my Telecaster and they make a world of difference.
can relate...when the other big C came to town and lockdown happened..I ordered up a Telecaster and Stratocaster and DAW equipment .. I Winged it freestyle..was nice I progressed and happy..10 days ago Tripped or hit by an Algorithm.. and Lauren Popped up..I watched a few videos...the academia appealed to me...10 days in... nice progression...easy on eyes and ears and she show shortcuts...her acoustic lessons have amped up my electric guitar skills...I would recommend her to anyone wanting give a six string a go....she's dedicated and very caring..
LOL I've been "auditing" beginner lessons from every single online guitar instructor Lauren named, so that was an it's-a-small-world moment. She's absolutely right that her experiences set her apart as an instructor. I find that if all of them are teaching a song/chord/technique, she's usually the first one who explains it in a language that makes sense. I get the feeling that's a result of having to struggle through these things on her own. Having said that, I think modesty prevents her from either seeing or claiming her greatest strength, which is just a natural talent for teaching. I've had to dive deep to find out how to play some obscure punk songs, and learn from a mumbly, goes-way-too-fast dude sitting on his bed (and I'm grateful to them for it), so I appreciate _good_ teaching, and I have to say, Lauren is one of the (if not the) best at keeping the learning experience from feeling frustrating, making it fun, even when it's hard. That's not just experience. That's a gift, and she has it. Anyway, hats off to Lauren. Also, she has the best tee shirts.
Oh wow. That's very kind of you to say. That really means a lot. I didn't go to school to learn how to teach. So I think I doubted myself a lot. I'm glad that my teaching resonates with you. ☺️
Lauren, thanks for taking us through your guitar journey. During COVID, two years ago, I started playing taking lessons from Justin and Andy at age 65. I have enjoyed their instruction. Last January, I decide it was time to take in person lessons. I explained to the instructor that I wasn’t interested in Music Theory, I knew how to read tab and just wanted to learn to play more songs and correct any bad habits. After 3 months I quit as the Instructor was trying to teach me theory. On a whim, I was looking for instruction to play Heart of Gold and came across your you Tube instruction. Out of curiosity, I inquired about the 7 step class and decided to give it a go even if I had to take a step back. I have been able to move through it fairly quickly as I was proficient at some of the basics. What I have enjoyed is your structure, detail, and realistic expectations. After the bad experience with the in person instructor, you methods are a breath of fresh air! Thank you!
You are so easy to listen to and learn from. I'm one of those late bloomers, took lessons at 58 years of age. I have always been into music, singing and listening. I even wrote songs before learning guitar because life got in the way. Lol I took disability and moved my mom in with me at 57 years of age. Taking lessons was a lifetime dream and it helped keep me sane. Lol love your attention to detail and understanding us old folks. I'm 67 now and still love learning. Thanks.
Yes you are the superior teacher for sure. I am legally blind and your videos have been the most helpful for me to learn finger exercises and chord changes. I am pretty sure I have watched your silver springs tutorial 60 times so far. And I am getting it down!!! I am also the one who is begging for a Taylor swift tutorial!! ❤ 😜
Love your journey. I'm a ukulele guy. The pearl for all and in any vocation of avocation...centers on enjoying what u do. That means play and practice your style ...for me it is 50s rock but some 90s when I was a teenager...and times were much calmer...but I digress...enjoying your genre will translate into fulfillment, better play and the desire to get your instrument out...and we all make many mistakes...just rock on anyways!
I genuinely want to thank you Lauren, your easy 4 chords video & horse with no name video got me started playing guitar and i haven't looked back.... I'm hooked. 3 months and i can play around 8 recognisable songs. You are great 😊
Hi Lauren I am 70yrs young i have always loved the sound of guitar {acoustic} I started when I was about 18 can't understand tabs or scales never had a proper lesson I can only play chords with fills riffs etc, but I can play music, I don't play for other people just for the joy of hearing music thanks for all the tips👍❣ 🎸
Hey Lauren. At 65 I'm taking your 7 level course. It's going slow but as you say you're teaching us and showing us how to learn songs along the way and having fun. I love it and wished I took it up so many years ago but never did until I came across your videos which pushed me over the edge to buy a guitar. Thanks!
Thank you for the confidence! Even if I don't completely learn the guitar I love the fact of holding an instrument in my hands, strumming chords, and making sound. That's all I really wanted. Getting even better, which is the goal, would be frosting on the cake.
I've never heard "Dust in the wind" before so searched for it on youtube. And the beauty of the melody brought tears to my eyes So now I'm crying. Thank you, I guess?
Lauren thank you so much for sharing your story🎶 I'm 66 now and sometimes feel like I'm never going get this, but you inspire me each time I watch one of your lessons, and after hearing this testimony today of how you began your guitar journey I'm so happy that through the Internet I was able to come across your music channel and look forward to learning from you. You make it fun and comfortable and there's something about your personality that just naturally inspires others to want to be their best👍💯 thank you
Forget the guitar for a second . You are a very talented gifted teacher and I’m sure whatever you taught you would be fantastic.. Great teachers are golden and you certainly fall into that category.
As an older beginner, your approach works well for me. While I'm a beginner on guitar, I'm not new to music having been a decent cover band bass player for years. While it was dumb luck I ended up a bass player, I always loved guitars and own a few nice electrics. Now it's time to learn how to play them. Love your channel Lauren.
Lauren, I am so happy to hear you say so much of this. My friends said it would be so cool if I learned guitar. I got an acoustic guitar when I was 14 and my first teacher wasn't sophisticated, but he had me playing things I liked immediately. If not, I never would have stuck with it. I found teachers who went beyond my first teacher and I got to the point where people said, "That guy is really good." At various times, including now, I taught guitar lessons. I played every chance I got whether it was folk, rock blues, jazz or choral accompaniment. Honestly, classical guitar was not for me, but I learned valuable lessons from it.
Inspiring to say the least. Your power is in your ability to explain and demonstrate concepts and techniques without assuming anything. I enjoy music but may be "musically declined" instead of inclined. I watch most of your videos and intend to get one of your courses. Life gets in the way but I will have take the time from "Honey Do Lists" and all my other excuses. Keep up the good work. It is mucho appreciated! Thanks, Charlie Joe Weir
I love sight reading, and it has enabled me to explore so much music in so many styles. It is definitely a skill that has to be developed (like anything else).
You are absolutely right. If a student is not having fun learning the guitar that student will not stick with it. It has to be an enjoyable experience. I'm 75 and started on my own at 15. No youtube back then!
Hi Lauren, I signed up for your 7-level course some months ago. One of many plusses of your course is that you break things down and actually show us what you are doing so that we aren’t left wondering… ‘wait...how did she do that? I am making progress, slowly, which I keep hearing is the way it must be. I am old, can’t play standing up, and most definitely can’t sing (just ask anyone in my family). I like the songs that are instrumental. I appreciate slower-paced songs. My goal is to learn the Chet Atkins arrangement of the Don McLean song, Vincent. Meanwhile, the guitar has become my go-to when I need to ‘relax, but stay sharp,’ a necessary skill for an old geezer.
thx lauren im 64 and a drummer ,also a singer ive dabbled for years with guitar ,but your inspiration is great im learning from you thx from new zealand
You're the reason why I bought my guitar. Right now, I'm busy learning. I used to watch your videos and enjoyed them before I even started thinking about learning the guitar. By continuously watching your videos, I developed the desire to play the guitar. Thank you, Lauren, for the inspiration. I'm going to name one of my guitars 'LaurBat.' It will be a piece of history that I'll share with my family and grandchildren for generations to come.
I ve been painting off & on for quite awhile; looking at your blank wall , (save for that gorgeous black & silver guitar), I'm so envious of that luxury of blank space. My dwelling is covered wall to wall with my paintings, & I've come to view the guitar as the alternative. Clear Space is precious, and sound doesn't collect dust.
I’ve retired and finally have extra time to do what I want to do. Thank you for sharing your experience, I’m having fun and slowly picking up tips from RUclips. You’re a big help! Keep up the good work! Thanks again!!
I’m retired too, but I played guitar and bass in my younger years. Now I’m almost 74, but playing with tremors. So I’m relearning to compensate for it. Lauren is such a joy to watch and learn from.
Lauren - your piano lesson experience sounds exactly like mine. Chords were something I had to learn for the yearly guild auditions, but nobody taught me how to actually use them to make music. Flash forward 40 years to my first guitar lesson. I was fully expecting Teacher to hand me the Guitar Etudes 1 book and start on page 1. Instead, he asked me, "Well, what do you want to play?" Mic drop. I came back the next week with a CD of Brown Eyed Girl. Teacher tabbed out the intro, showed me the chords, and I was on my way. Like you, if they had showed me how to have FUN on a piano, I probably would have stayed with it. So glad they didn't!
I am just starting to learn guitar at 35 and your videos have been a tremendous help. I had to comment on this one since you mentioned Melissa Ethridge - She is a ROCK GODDESS. And "Like the way I do," was my first karaoke song. To this day still one of my favorites!
Great story! My wife was similarly sick and is healthy now. I love watching and learning from your videos! Keep going and don't forget your retirement planning! I'm sure you haven't, but it is important. I retired at 54 then moved from Nashville, TN to Germany and starting learning the guitar at 55 (last year)! I play almost everyday when we aren't traveling Europe! Thanks for the inspiration!
I love you sharing your talents. I've learned much of my current knowledge of guitar from you. I've only been playing for a little over 4 months but I'm getting better and less muted notes. Couple more years and I'll be able to play a whole song 😉
So true Lauren. Most older and even some newer "beginner" books turn people off. That you remember the difficulty of being frustrated is part of why you're such a great teacher! ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your journey! It gives me so much inspiration! I had an uncle that played flawlessly, including playing a 12-string guitar (which I was lucky enough to inherit). I tried to learn to play about 15 years ago then put it off because I divorced and moved to another state to start over. My sweet (new) husband gifted me with a guitar this past January and then gifted me with another beautiful one for our 13 year anniversary this past weekend. I'm in my mid 50's and at the very beginner stage. Your videos are by far the best and easiest to understand! Thank you for sharing your amazing gift!
Luv ya. You are an inspiration to many and a great teacher. Thank you. I wanted to learn to play the guitar in the 70's but it wasn't until I purchased an acoustic guitar in 2003 in attempt to fulfill my dream of becoming a guitarist. I gave up my dream in the same year, it was difficult learning from the studio teachers. But OMG, I stumbled on your RUclips channel and learned more in a few days than I did in months with other teachers. I am now 65 and you have shown me how much fun and how easy it is to play the guitar. So I am starting this journey with you, my mentor that looks like a 26 year old college grad. I had that 20 year old guitar serviced the other day. I am having fun now playing the guitar, thanks to you Lauren.
Hi Lauren, I am very happy that I stumbled onto your YT page the other day! I think that a sense of enthusiasm and humility is what makes a good teacher….and in my opinion, you convey both of those in spades…so thank you for sharing your talents and your willingness to teach us how to be better guitarists
Lauren, I have been on your team since 2017 but I am still learning cool, new things about your own guitar journey! I love this video! No wonder your students relate to you . Many can identify with your own motivation in the beginning stages of learning to play and some of the frustration you felt - and they are now learning to play songs they want to play! Well done!
Inspirational back story, Lauren...Love your work...poor horsey had no name, cud av nicknamed it 'Neddy' or 'Mr. Eddy', poor ting...Good day to you, Teaching Hero...sir roger de brotherly...
Lauren I was smiling while I listened to this video. Thanks for carrying the torch and passing down your knowledge. So many of the things you talked about resonated with me. Looking forward to practicing with your videos and learning more. So, cool of you to acknowledge some of the other youtube teachers also. Mahalo 🤙🏾
Haha, my brother who has 6 Martins and a custom Preston Thompson, gave me the same Hal Leonard book to get me started! This, of course, was before I found your 7 Level Guitar System. Thanks for all you do! ✌🏼😎
You and Angela Petrilli are by some stretch, the best guitar demonstators on YT. Very few others I've found thus far really nail the crucial subtleties and nuances in even the most deceptively simple-sounding tunes. As a self-taught player for nigh on 30 years and currently dealing with onset osteoarthritis in my critical barring index finger following a particularly gnarly left wrist fracture about 5 years ago, your vids and unfailing ebullience have been invaluable in keeping me committed, discarding old bad technique habits and even finding and refining new ways around, despite that at times, compromising fact.
I've actually learned via all those guys you highlighted, well, except RB, his is genius level stuff...you and JS are IMHO the two most gifted at the "skill of teaching" guitar. You share concepts hard to grasp in a relatable way. I've gotten over months long humps via you (and JS) and am glad you're there. I'm retired at 68 and can't put $$$ into lessons like I'd like to. Your YT stuff keeps me moving forward. Thanks Lauren.
Thank you for sharing your journey!! Like you, I do not have a degree, but I just love sitting down and playing w/ my guitars. I love going to Open Mikes and watch and learn from other guitar players. Have a great day and thank you for sharing your experiences and talent w/ us.
This is an awsome story Lauren. You are probably the best all round guitar tutor on the Utube, some of the others you mentioed are good in there own area. Thank you. for sharing.
Lauren, I love your RUclips channel! Ive been taking lessons since 2/2019 was on my bucket list after I retired! So I joined the community and love it!, the combo of private weekly lesson with Ryan, watching you and community has been perfect! Ryan would say at first go practice but most of all Have Fun
Thank you for mentioning Melissas Etheridge. She's one of my favorite players, and If I had a nickel for every time I've wondered, 'What is she doing? how does she sound like 12 people playing alone." and I got so discouraged. Thank you for the way you break things down. You're the best!
Very interesting, thank you! I learned classical guitar with 13 years. Pure sight reading. No chords. I lost interest because I wanted actually to play Beatles songs, but that was it. With 40 years I took piano lessons. Classic. No chords. Then I got a new teacher and I requested him to teach me only the great stuff (far too difficult for me like Beethoven Sonatas). But he taught me how to analyze music sheets. He took apart all the classical pieces and showed me the chords in Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Paul Simon, etc. Chords I, IV, V, etc. It helps me until now to understand music. Now I am learning pop guitar again, on RUclips, with on-line course (not yours, I am sorry but I like very much your work and frequently I look in to learn this and that). In short I think music theory is a great plus when studying guitar but I acknowledge that some of the best songwriters never knew anything about theory.
I love the approach you use to teach guitar! I actually started playing 20 years ago. I learned by the book and how to read music. I never really forced myself to learn more than the same old camp fire strumming. I’m still very mediocre and so I’m here, back to square one. I want to expand my guitar playing and currently really want to learn fingerpicking. So far, it sucks! Ha! But I want it so bad! So anyway, just want to thank you for the great tips and tricks. AND I just turned 40 too!! Cheers to rocking into the 40s! 🤘🏻
I just can't do it. I understand the theory. But puting it in to practice. My fingers r so sore that how much I been practising. I got to accept my lifelong dream of playing guitar not going to happen. If I could learn just one song it might inspire me before I put my guitar in the bin. It learning a beautiful song on an instament the gives u the motivation to kerp going. Ive bought so many books and it not teaching that.
Don’t give up. Like u it’s been a life long dream of mine too. I’m 56 and been working at it for 3 yrs. Yes it’s a struggle but keep at it. My fingers now are able to make chords but it took a lot of time so I started to learn scales , minor pentatonic etc then my fingers started to bend the right way. Just keep plugging at it.
Just got your Email "had a full day with your Dad" which linked me here, glad you had a good day and yes, that is a cool Camaro, GM just started the Camaro invasion into Australia, so far looks cool but the new ones never as good as the classic muscle cars. Now, for this video, great story and sounds like your happy about how you got where you are. I also had period where Melissa Etheridge invaded my music collection, back when tapes were the rage. Keep it up, and I am still working on 'While my guitar gently weeps', to much new stuff going on in my shed, but I will get there eventually. 💕
I love the classic cars. I'm sad 2024 is the last year for the Camaro. 😞 Not sure if I'm going to trade-in my 2019 SS for the latest model. We will see.
Thanks for being transparent about your journey. Inspiring and motivating. Your approach to playing guitar is what kept me engaged with the instrument. You are awesome!
Hi Lauren, many thanks for showcasing to us your guitar journey. I love your ‘fun’ methodology towards enjoying music and guitar. Keep up your great work. Cheers ✌️🎸💜
My experience was similar to yours. Piano teacher that would only focus on classical. I inherited my grandpas guitar when I was 17 and taught myself cords from books and sheet music. I'm nearly 60 now and only took a 1 semester class in college for beginner guitarists. I've played on and off and really started practicing when covid hit. Learning lots from you tube and ultimate guitar, paul davids, rick beato and the other teachers you mentioned also. So much help out there these days. For me the point is to have fun, so I 100% agree with you. Keep it up.
It is for me. Don't have a goal to be a professional musician. By the way your stretching exercise and spyder without lifting fingers have made a huge difference for me. Thanks.@@LaurenBateman
Greetings , Lauren . I first picked up a guitar in 1983 , it's a ,Kapok Classical / Flamenco Guitar . It is still a firm friend to this day . My second , was a Strat Fender copy with a finger action so high , it was probably easier to stand on the neck ( Even with its adjustable bridge ) . Then came an Ibanez lead and an accompanying Bass . Sadly , they all sat playing home to spiders for many years . Then , I came across your channel which inspired me to pick them up again . Still a little rusty due to Arthritis and a recent injury . But many thanks for helping me evict those spiders and setting me on the road again .
By far one of the most inspiring vids ive watched! And just a great watch. Thank you for extra motivation to get serious, and it was really nice to hear your backstory and to know there is light at the end of the tunnel...
Lauren, I am 69 years old and just bought my first guitar two months ago ( an Epiphone Les Paul Special I, electric). I ony paid $200 for guitar, practice amp, etc.). I have seen a few other YT teachers before finding your site. I really like your style of instruction. It seems like a simple thing but i am still having a problem moving from Em to D6/9. I'm practicing every day and trying to stay positive.
What a great story Lauren. I started playing Trumpet in 4th grade and was asked to play with the 5th-8th grade band as a 5th grader so I had a solid base for music. I always wanted to play guitar and started self taught lessons numerous times. It wasn't until I took lessons that things started to click. 3 years in I am loving learning, what I don't know about guitar. Thank you for sharing your story because it resonates in myself, getting to the level I really want to play at. I'm very close to playing on stage with friends and playing songs I enjoy and like. I almost pulled the plug last April to join a guitar player on stage in Key West and play along with him. Next year..... next trip to Key West I hope to be playing onstage. :)
I played bass in a band in the 60-70s. Played by ear. Wanted to learn piano, but the teacher started me in a 5th grade book and here I am 17. That lasted one lesson. Now I’m 73 and since I retired I purchased 7 acoustic guitars, an electric and 2 basses. I love playing but I’m stuck at intermediate level. I have tremors in my right hand so it’s tough. My dogs love my music.
With the Legends of Zelda shirt....Rock! Also, the reason I like watching you (among the others you listed Beato, Justin etc) is that you are unique. You bring something to the table they don't and vise versa. It's a good thing!
Oh gods! I had a piano teacher like that - back in 1970! Nothing but practice scales and no hint of theory. It was 10 years later after a lot of strumming that I sat back down at a piano and worked out what I was playing - and then 40 years later I started playing more regularly and seriously (and learning more theory) and now I’m playing more blues and jazz - and having a blast!
Thank you for sharing your story. I see many similarities to my own guitar learning and am inspired to continue playing. Although I'm only 2 years into my journey, your approach to teaching and subsequent lessons are always appreciated. Thank you for helping facilitate dreams coming true.
Love that story! Inspiring…I played the piano as a kid also and what you said actually made sense :) been messing around with guitar and the use and wonder how to get better also.
Thanks for sharing your story. I started learning guitar 10 years ago and loved (still do) learning songs. I love Nirvana can play most of the Unplugged songs. A great band I love now is First Aid Kit. Definitely look them up.
Thank you for sharing. Very inspiring. I picked up my 1st guitar when I was nine. My teacher was so-so. I went on a 20+ year hiatus. I came across your video a few weeks ago. Thank you for the push. Looking forward to meeting you in September ☺
Really good stuff! I have now had two great guitars for 30-years, and only tried online video lessens over the years, which I quickly lost interest in. I’m going to signup for Lauren’s lessens program, this looks really interesting, and gives me hope!
I absolutely love the way you teach guitar playing. I am currently using the Simply Guitar app then I came across your channel here. You come across clearly and simple. Keep it up. I’m hooked to your channel now
My daughter turned 40 this year and looks 26. We must have drank some good water in 1983 to produce ageless wonders. My first guitar was at age 14 and it was junk. My 2nd was a new 1975 Takamine and still play it to this day. Self taught except when I was 40 finally took lessons from an outstanding teacher who, like you, asked me what I wanted to play. Then he got a gig out of state and I stopped playing until 2020, then got DeQuervains Tenosynovitis, which was a 6+ month set back. Can’t play barre chords like I used to, but enjoy playing nevertheless and really enjoy your steady, detailed, patient approach. Some of the other YT teachers are more performers than teachers. Chords are not displayed, plus their pace is far too fast for me to absorb and improve my skills. Thank you for sharing your relatable journey!
This is an awesome video. My journey was a bit similar. Buy a book, learn some chords. 20 years later still playing the same stuff, mostly my own. I put the guitar down for 20 years. 5 months ago I picked it back up. Ooh, look, videos and online tutorials! Yeah, that's what I need. Found your videos and saw a lot of what I wanted to get me progressing. Your teaching style is fun and instructional. You DO make playing the guitar fun.
This video is so helpful. It’s been interesting hearing your guitar journey. You are very right about learning the songs you like listening to, it really keeps a person interested. I gave up with one to one lessons, because they are not only too expensive but they teach what they want to teach. Also strumming patterns as a beginner has been very difficult. So for the time being since I have only just discovered your channel I am going to try some of the finger picking patterns you are teaching. Many thanks for all of your lessons 🤟
Great inspirational message of common sense of playing for self-enjoyment. I especially like "I don't know what I don"t know." Very True. I teach beginners and you are on my recommendation list for additional utube help. (along with Marty, Justin and others). Keep on Truckin.
LB , for those of us who go back far enough ( and it is a long way for me), we had the one and only Mel Bay book to learn from! (Was there ever really a Mel Bay?) . I picked up the guitar because my friends had a band and I picked up a lot of tricks but also bad habits along that way. I have two main charts: a chord diagram by keys and a note diagram for keys. Had them for decades. Tab always seemed confusing so I usually pick it out myself or I “consolidate” the individual notes by the chord being played. Sight reading seldom gets the song right for guitar , but can be useful to get started? Everybody has a different tale and that’s what makes the planet go round. Main thing is to get to a point you like hearing what you’re doing. Rock on kid!
I love the way you teach. I am going from zero and painful fingers to the goal of playing one of my favorites, The Finest Hour by Duran Duran With your help and guidance. Thank you, and cheers to the journey. 🎉🥂🍾
Hello Lauren,, Just found your RUclips channel a few days ago. I started playing guitar 60 years ago w/ a Mel Bay book. Then I got into to piano and then into drumming. I nailed the drumming, and played in many bands over the years. I still have my 1962 Ludwig Club Date Set. They still sound outstanding ! Now, at 72 I'm ready to get back to guitar. I truly appreciate your teaching abilities. Over the years I developed some bad habits just messing around with my old guitars. So, I'm going to start with your teaching as if I never picked up a guitar. This ought to be fun ! Looking forward to playing again. But this time I'm going to do it right !! With your help. Yep, a new approach ! Warmest Regards, SGT Tom

Proud graduate of the Lauren Bateman 7 level guitar program! 😊 If you haven't signed up for Lauren's course and community, you should; it will change your guitar journey trajectory in the best possible way. 🎶
Aww thank you Heather!!! So happy to have you as a student. Any reading this can go to:

Lauren dont put yourself down as not being a good guitar player..as a cancer survivor as I am ( 2 cancers) you make a great teacher..you see things from different angles...
Aww that's very kind of you. You're a cancer fighter just like me. 🙏
Keep up the good work! You got this.
Learnt Simple Man from your tuitional, thanks Lauren👍😎
Thank you!
You're very welcome :D
THANK YOU : ) ( Canada )
Thanks for watching!
Thanks.
Aww Jerry, I'm super happy to help you.
I'm 55years young 😊from England your are an inspiration and videos have helped me with my progress keep up the good work God bless you
Thank you for watching! Keep on playing!
You're not old you,re young and beautiful
Aww thank you!
This girl is a breath of fresh air, a gift to us bedroom guitarists. Thank you Lauren 😊
Wow, thank you!
Very well said! :D
I genuinely want to thank you Lauren, your easy 4 chords video & horse with no name video got me started playing guitar and i haven't looked back.... I'm hooked. 3 months and i can play around 8 recognisable songs. You are great 😊
Thanks for watching!
That’s what is so Great about Lauren, she’s just so humble! No Big ego, doesn’t blow her own horn. Just a Really Genuine, down to earth Person!
Aww that's very kind of you. ☺️
Hi Lauren I am 70yrs young i have always loved the sound of guitar {acoustic} I started when I was about 18
can't understand tabs or scales never had a proper lesson I can only play chords with fills riffs etc, but I can play music, I don't play for other people just for the joy of hearing music thanks for all the tips👍❣
🎸
You're always welcome :D
Hey Lauren. At 65 I'm taking your 7 level course. It's going slow but as you say you're teaching us and showing us how to learn songs along the way and having fun. I love it and wished I took it up so many years ago but never did until I came across your videos which pushed me over the edge to buy a guitar. Thanks!
Also almost forgot to say I've been listening to your music on Spotify. You have a beautiful voice. Really like your songs!
Happy to hear that :D Keep it up. I know you got this!
And the beauty of the melody brought tears to my eyes
So now I'm crying. Thank you, I guess?
Hi, Lauren. Just discovered your channel. I am retired, and I am a guitar beginner trying to learn electric blues. Keep up the good work.
Welcome aboard! :D
You make it fun and comfortable and there's something about your personality that just naturally inspires others to want to be their best👍💯 thank you
Thank you so much!
Forget the guitar for a second . You are a very talented gifted teacher and I’m sure whatever you taught you would be fantastic.. Great teachers are golden and you certainly fall into that category.
Wow, thank you!
Thanks David. Glad to be able to help. ☺️
You are my favorite guitar teacher on RUclips.
Aww thank you!
Thanks,
Charlie Joe Weir
Charlie, you got this. I was not musically inclined either. Lots of practice!
It does have to be fun!
It does have to be fun!
Skip, so happy to have you. The guitar is a great way to relax and relieve stress. Glad to be helping you on your guitar journey.
thx lauren im 64 and a drummer ,also a singer ive dabbled for years with guitar ,but your inspiration is great im learning from you thx from new zealand
Rock on!
You still so so good in teaching a way any beginner can understand and implementing it to playing better.
Thank you so much!
Really glad to hear that :D Looking forward to your journey!
@@LaurenBateman Thanks Laur
I ve been painting off & on for quite awhile; looking at your blank wall , (save for that gorgeous black & silver guitar), I'm so envious of that luxury of blank space. My dwelling is covered wall to wall with my paintings, & I've come to view the guitar as the alternative. Clear Space is precious, and sound doesn't collect dust.
I’ve retired and finally have extra time to do what I want to do. Thank you for sharing your experience, I’m having fun and slowly picking up tips from RUclips. You’re a big help! Keep up the good work! Thanks again!!
You can do it!
If it's not fun, you won't want to practice.
I am just starting to learn guitar at 35 and your videos have been a tremendous help. I had to comment on this one since you mentioned Melissa Ethridge - She is a ROCK GODDESS. And "Like the way I do," was my first karaoke song. To this day still one of my favorites!
Thank you Lauren! Appreciate your natural and honest approach…40!!..no way!..your enthusiasm is so inspiring. Cheers.
You are so welcome!
Thank you for sharing your story :D
I love you sharing your talents. I've learned much of my current knowledge of guitar from you. I've only been playing for a little over 4 months but I'm getting better and less muted notes. Couple more years and I'll be able to play a whole song 😉
You sure will! Keep up the good work!
A must watch for me.
I'll come back to watch.
Dang! Such a wonderful adventure. Thank you for putting yourself out there for us, Lauren. You are truly wonderful.
Aww thanks 🙏
Really glad to hear that :D Thank you for sharing your story.
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm really glad my videos helped :D Keep it up !
Aww that's very kind of you. Thank you so much!
Was that last video Dovydas? Looked like him. You are one of the best guitar teachers, all 321k of us think that.
Awww thank you kindly!
322K Now
Lauren, I have been on your team since 2017 but I am still learning cool, new things about your own guitar journey! I love this video! No wonder your students relate to you . Many can identify with your own motivation in the beginning stages of learning to play and some of the frustration you felt - and they are now learning to play songs they want to play! Well done!
Aww thanks Carolyn!
I love your teaching, its easy and im learning little by little
Glad to hear that
So agree with you about the piano journey. Took 10 years and never really knew about chores, keys etc. also love your Zelda tee
Love Zelda!
Inspirational back story, Lauren...Love your work...poor horsey had no name, cud av nicknamed it 'Neddy' or 'Mr. Eddy', poor ting...Good day to you, Teaching Hero...sir roger de brotherly...
They could have named him, right?
Lauren I was smiling while I listened to this video. Thanks for carrying the torch and passing down your knowledge. So many of the things you talked about resonated with me. Looking forward to practicing with your videos and learning more. So, cool of you to acknowledge some of the other youtube teachers also. Mahalo 🤙🏾
You are so welcome. Glad to help!
Really glad to hear that :D Thanks for sharing your story.
You're always welcome :)
@LaurenBateman can I purchase your "Amp and Pedal Board Workshop" video apart from your course?
Thank you for sharing your journey!! Like you, I do not have a degree, but I just love sitting down and playing w/ my guitars. I love going to Open Mikes and watch and learn from other guitar players. Have a great day and thank you for sharing your experiences and talent w/ us.
Open mics are so much fun!
This is an awsome story Lauren. You are probably the best all round guitar tutor on the Utube, some of the others you mentioed are good in there own area. Thank you. for sharing.
Wow, thank you! Very kind of you.
Sandy, that's awesome!!
Thank you for mentioning Melissas Etheridge. She's one of my favorite players, and If I had a nickel for every time I've wondered, 'What is she doing? how does she sound like 12 people playing alone." and I got so discouraged. Thank you for the way you break things down. You're the best!
She is an amazing guitar player. Love seeing her live. Inspiring for even me.
Aww thanks!!!! You got this. Welcome back to the guitar learning journey.
It is never too late. The guitar is NOT easy. Do not give up. It will hurt at first but with time it gets better as you get stronger.
I am Filipino, thanks for sharing, love it
Glad you enjoyed it
Hearing your story and seeing that '69 Camaro in the background pretty much lets me know I'm in the right place.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for being transparent about your journey. Inspiring and motivating. Your approach to playing guitar is what kept me engaged with the instrument. You are awesome!
Glad it helps, keep on playing!
Hi Lauren, many thanks for showcasing to us your guitar journey. I love your ‘fun’ methodology towards enjoying music and guitar. Keep up your great work. Cheers ✌️🎸💜
My pleasure!
Keep it up.
That's the whole point. Gotta have fun!
It is for me. Don't have a goal to be a professional musician. By the way your stretching exercise and spyder without lifting fingers have made a huge difference for me. Thanks.@@LaurenBateman
really connecting story u have ....god bless you
Aww thanks so much.
Thanks for sharing about your guitar journey. It is very inspiring! You really have a heart to teach others guitar.
I appreciate that!
You are so welcome!
Your approach is awsome I have checked out a hand full of ."teachers" you are surely the best
Thank you! 😃
By far one of the most inspiring vids ive watched! And just a great watch. Thank you for extra motivation to get serious, and it was really nice to hear your backstory and to know there is light at the end of the tunnel...
You are so welcome! 😊
That is awesome! Keep it up :D
It's such a pleasure just listening to you! Thanks a lot!
Thanks for listening
Sight reading on piano was so hard for me too!!! I have a similar experience with my music journey.❤
Thanks for watching!
With the Legends of Zelda shirt....Rock! Also, the reason I like watching you (among the others you listed Beato, Justin etc) is that you are unique. You bring something to the table they don't and vise versa. It's a good thing!
We all have our own special talents. That's what is great about RUclips. You can learn from us all!
That's awesome! Keep it up :D
Thank you for sharing your story. I see many similarities to my own guitar learning and am inspired to continue playing. Although I'm only 2 years into my journey, your approach to teaching and subsequent lessons are always appreciated. Thank you for helping facilitate dreams coming true.
Go for it!
Love that story! Inspiring…I played the piano as a kid also and what you said actually made sense :) been messing around with guitar and the use and wonder how to get better also.
Thank you for sharing. Utmost Respect Lauren 😍
You're so welcome!
Thanks for sharing your story.
I started learning guitar 10 years ago and loved (still do) learning songs.
I love Nirvana can play most of the Unplugged songs.
A great band I love now is First Aid Kit. Definitely look them up.
That's awesome. Yeah most of my first songs were Nirvana tunes.
Lauren you are such an incredibly inspiring guitar teacher and a kind soul. Thank you for teaching me and so many others! 😊
You're so welcome!
Love your Superman shirts that are in some of your videoes as well 🙂@@LaurenBateman
Nice to hear this recap of your guitar journey Lauren.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing. Very inspiring. I picked up my 1st guitar when I was nine. My teacher was so-so. I went on a 20+ year hiatus. I came across your video a few weeks ago. Thank you for the push. Looking forward to meeting you in September ☺
P.S. I am 56 now
Excited to meet you!
Really good stuff! I have now had two great guitars for 30-years, and only tried online video lessens over the years, which I quickly lost interest in.
I’m going to signup for Lauren’s lessens program, this looks really interesting, and gives me hope!
That would be awesome! Please do. I'm happy to help. ☺️
I absolutely love the way you teach guitar playing. I am currently using the Simply Guitar app then I came across your channel here. You come across clearly and simple. Keep it up. I’m hooked to your channel now
Awesome, thank you!
I can almost play Simple Man because of you. TY!
BORING!!!🙉🐒💩💩💩💩👎
Thank you for sharing!
Really appreciate hearing that. Thanks so much for watching :D
Interesting Ms Bateman. Thanks for sharing more of yourself and your journey.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad it was helpful!
Great inspirational message of common sense of playing for self-enjoyment. I especially like "I don't know what I don"t know." Very True. I teach beginners and you are on my recommendation list for additional utube help. (along with Marty, Justin and others). Keep on Truckin.
Thank you very much :)
Am just so inspired watching your video
Aww thanks!
Such an inspiration, Congrats on all you have done and achieved
Thank you very much! :D
Great insights!
Glad it was helpful!
Good lesson Lauren. I made similar mistakes in my early learning.
Glad it was helpful!
I do remember Mel Bay. I even have a few of the books myself.
I love the way you teach. I am going from zero and painful fingers to the goal of playing one of my favorites, The Finest Hour by Duran Duran
With your help and guidance. Thank you, and cheers to the journey. 🎉🥂🍾
Thanks for watching!
Happy to hear that! Looking forward to your journey :D
