I just want to add on to some story points about her and Genji, She saved his life and kept him alive long enough for the cyberneticists at OW to build him a body (Blackwatch one) and keep him alive, she herself didn't give him the body. After that point, Genji felt it was necessary to repay his debt to OW by joining them and would even return to the organization after his blackwatch days as proven by working with the new strike team.(current green body before the events of OW2). As for the romance,
its pretty much given away that Genji and Mercy are the ONLY two characters with valentines day and white day voicelines (white day is important in japanese cultures for confessing love and such), they also have Tanzaku festival voicelines, a festival almost exclusively celebrated by couples within japan that wish for long life, health and prosperity together, not to mention Tracer blatantly teasing Genji that he's staying up late to be alone with Angela and Angela herself also stating how not many people talk to her through some dialogue in storm rising or the fact that she quite literally asks him out to buy her dinner. Genji was a playboy so I'm sure he has charm to interest Angela OR Angela and him grew closer over their late night talks, as we see that even while she was in Egypt, the two were still writing each other letters post-overwatch, keeping contact, both of them got the hots for one another and I think its adorable that Angela is aware of how japanese people celebrate festivals like White/Valentines day and tanzaku festivals.
If a relationship ever blossoms in the PvE OW story campaign, I want it to be Mercy and Genji so badly.
Mercy also has flirty lines with Pharah so I'm voting for the "harem protagonist Mercy" canon.
Wish it was true. But every single Gency interaction are removed from OW2 even before it got released. Idk whats on mind of the new scenarists, but they deffinetly doesnt like the idea of a straight blonde woman. Or im being wrong and Genji and Mercy's relation ship is now more "personal", you know what i mean.

Not sure if they've met in canon but I could see Mercy and Lucio getting along really well - both geniuses outside of zooming around battlefields who just want to help the people.
Also I'm pretty sure Mercy likes his "down with the Man" attitude.
I think they probably have since lucio's practically joined overwatch
It's such a shame that they never went anywhere with Mercy's characterization. Having her be the most unambiguously good and heroic character in the game, while also being critical of Overwatch, is a very interesting angle. And she has reasons to be critical, as we've seen: Overwatch has done some fucked up shit and eventually failed in its goal.
I think it's important to clarify ages in this. It highlights exactly how intelligent she is. For example, the stuff she achieved around the time that group at 1:13 is impressive. What's more impressive is that she's only 16 in that photo. A lot of people tend to think she is much older than she actually is (I think because of that photo actually because of how young Pharrah appears to be (Pharrah's 10-11 in the photo btw)).
Overall, that was a super interesting video! I definitely learned things about her that I didn't know before. Great work SVB. Videos like this take tons of research so your effort is very appreciated. Can't wait for the next one!! :)

Pharah x Mercy is highly unlikely to be canon. Know why? Because Blizzard won’t dare to ruin Egypt’s reputation. They’ll give Pharah a boyfriend to avoid a uproar from Egypt.
That means Genji x Mercy is definitely happening though.

Yeah they had boatloads of Gency interactions in the Stormrising event. Personally I think Mercy being an auntie figure for Pharah is much cuter and more likely, given she first joined Overwatch when Pharah was still a little girl.

i mean, i’d like to see pharah being a lesbo openly someday but not with mercy tbh…besides of genji x mercy making more sense due to their cute backstory, phamercy’s age gap is bigger than gency’s and that makes some people feel uncomfortable including me
@@liftysy3762 however… that’s not happening because Pharah chosen to join the Egyptian army, and she vowed to protect the people in Egypt means she’s automatically straight.
If Pharah want to be a lesbian or bisexual, then she could have joined the Canadian army. I’d like to see her to be either Symmetra or Sombra.

bit of a lore misunderstanding. Cassidy is more of a recruiter, finding some brand new faces to join the crew. Sojourn looks to be the new leader of Overwatch.

Actually, the reason Mercy joined Overwatch was so she could be one of the first supports you could play as in the campaign.

Every lore video on Mercy that stupid fanon ship of Pharmercy is brought up. Just stop, it’s not lore so why bring it up. I swear, no one knows what a friendship is anymore.

I'm not entirely against the idea in theory (though I do personally find Gency cuter), however the problem is Mercy first joined Overwatch when Pharah was still a little girl. (Ana's origin story vid has a good shot that shows their age gap.) I think that's really dangerous ground.
You could make the arguement they got into each other romantically after Pharah grew up, but it's still just so close to becoming grooming, and some shippers actually *play into* the idea of Mercy entertaining Pharah's feeling when she's still a kid, which is really gross. It makes Mercy look really bad.
We do have Lena and Emily, who are adorable and unironically the best gay couple I've seen in recent fiction, and Jack's fling before the military was also genuinely well done in Ana's short story. I'm all for more gay characters, we just need to keep minors out of it, y'know?
@@RacingSnails64 The perceived age gap is a result of the way the artists drew them. There's a 5-year age gap between Pharrah (32) and Mercy (37). In the image your referencing, Mercy is 16 and Pharrah is 11. I do agree that shippers targeting them when they're children (say if Mercy was 18 and Pharrah was 13) that isn't ok.
@@RacingSnails64 and Gency is a bloody malpractice suit. It looks bad to "date" someone you rebuilt btw. Mercy was very much a child herself when she joined OW and the pictures have also been retconned so idk why you're acting like this.
Age is a bit of a factor since mercy met Ana when Ana was 10-11 while Mercy was 16plus. Regardless Blizzard is still a business that needs to please many countries and an Egyptian gay character would be terrible PR since she is a representation of Egypt. Egypt being a very anti gay and very Muslim country. While I know there is a lot of issues in the US and other countries like the UK etc., I think we forget sometimes that not every country has that kind of freedom countries we grew up in do. While it seems like they should say fu she can be representation for gay Egyptians, there is more politics at stake and that country isn’t there yet.
I want her to end up with everyone.
