  • Hip Pain: Piriformis Syndrome and Greater Trochanteric Bursitis
Suffering from hip pain? The culprits may be Piriformis Syndrome or Greater Trochanteric Bursitis.
Piriformis Syndrome occurs when the piriformis muscle, located deep within the gluteal region, becomes tight or inflamed. This can lead to compression of the sciatic nerve, resulting in radiating pain from the buttocks down the leg. Activities such as sitting for prolonged periods, repetitive movements, or muscle imbalances can contribute to the development of this syndrome.
On the other hand, Greater Trochanteric Bursitis involves inflammation of the bursa, a fluid-filled sac that cushions the greater trochanter (a bony prominence on the outside of the hip). This condition can cause localized pain and tenderness, especially during activities like walking, running, or climbing stairs.
If you are a massage therapist who determines that one of these are responsible for your client’s hip pain, check out these unique massage techniques demonstrated by Erik Dalton that you can use to address these hip pain issues.

Had a patient yesterday who's piriformis was lit UP. Could barely touch her skin without pain. Will try the last technique next time because I love the leverage you get in order to lift the leg. When I try to do this in a different position, my hand slips and I get tired. THANK YOU
