  • I returned from Costa Rica and Mexico a few days ago and would love to share my travel sketchbook with you. I also want to share a few of the techniques I use to capture scenes fast while I'm on holiday. Keeping a travel journal or sketching as you go, is a wonderful way of cementing all the memories in your brain and it also lets you make connections with people as you travel. I use pen and wash because its rapid, light and portable. Sadly I didn't meet up with the Urban Sketchers group in either Costa Rica or Mexico City, but I still managed to do lots.
    Which is your favourite?
If you want to see the kit I took with me, please take a look here: • What to pack for trave...
I used Viviva colorsheets as I thought their vibrant colour would be perfect for Central America. If you want to treat yourself you can get 10% off by using this link and code (affiliate code): vivivacolors.com/lizchaderton and use the code LIZ10 .
Every like and comment tells RUclips to show this to more people, so please jump in. If you really, really like this content and want to support me you can donate at Kofi. I have just set it up at: ko-fi.com/lizchadertonartist
If you want to have more in depth courses please head over to www.lizchadertonstudio.co.uk. I also run a friendly Facebook group: / watercolourstudiowithl... .

The colors are stunning, especially in the gold museum sketch. I grew up in Mexico and it's wonderful to see your interpretation of Mexican art and architecture! Brings back a lot of memories (I visited the Mexico City zoo in 1990 the year the panda was born!), and I'm inspired to bring my sketchbook and paints next time I'm there. Thank you for sharing.

I was last in Mexico in 1996 and have wanted to go back ever since. aThe history, culture, colour, food, people…. what a place! Hope you get back soon x ( and I can’t tell you how excited I was to see the panda!)

Your accordion sketch journal was amazing! You captured so many interesting objects! And I love your colour selections.
And your showing how you sketch was so helpful. You are amazing. You always inspire me!
I’m going on a short holiday to ski country (don’t ski anymore but go for R&R)… I can’t take much painting equipment…but now I have an idea of how to keep painting while I’m away.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video,Liz!❤

That was great, Liz! I love that accordian book. I have never used one but I think I will follow your lead and try it out. Oh, Costa Rica! The first time I went, I was working in travel and my office and I saw 2/3 of the country in 3 days. I was so overwhelmed but it was so beautiful 😂! I loved seeing the toucans. You had your glowing scorpion, I had a humongous armadillo 😊.

I studied abroad for 6 weeks and spent every weekend outside of the city in nature. I finally saw poison dart frogs on my last weekend- what an absolute treat (although my companions thought I was a little nutty to get so excited!😆)
I wish I made time to keep an art journal while I was there- I’ll have to go back! I can’t believe you captured so much with your small art kit!

Hullo Liz! You are giving me the traveling bug! I have not been traveling at all since 2015 and I was rather forced into retirement because of health problems.😕 I have tried a few Plein-air paintings in my back yard, our lot is against a greenbelt, so out our back door is around 300 acres of wilderness. California is a big state! I hope you have some notes and references for painting some of your trip in future artworks. Thank you for sharing this lovely trip with us!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful sketchbook! In the early 2000s I was fortunate to travel to Mexico several times. I always enjoyed the bright happy colors and art there. I am new to sketching and watercolor and enjoying it very much. I was able to find the Stabilo pen here in the States.
