- DLI Museum 2016
The DLI Museum closed on the 31st of March 2016.
An excellent and compact museum, displaying artifacts from World War 1 & World War 2 and other areas of the DLI Regimental History.
Seven Victoria Cross, could be viewed, as well as thousands of other medals rewarded to members of the Durham Light Infantry.
Another piece of County Durham's heritage, sacrificed by a Council that has no affinity with the electorate.
My stepdad HRD Oldman served in the DLLI in WW2.
I will miss the DLI, it has created so many good memories, shame its being closed :(
+lilyloveponies - Too right!
I only visited there once many years ago when I was an army cadet, and we were there basically as security and to collect donations for an event that was happening on the grounds.
So sorry that we will never get to see this piece of my ancestors' history. What will happen to all the records and artifacts?
+cathyinoz In the short term (next5 years) items are being stored at another facility and exhibitions are to be held around the county.
This was amazing! Sounds like its closed or closing, damn shame... Its gorgous.... Thank you for sharing, Alan. TC, Anna
It closed that week. The council blame cut-backs and visitor numbers, but it is a prime development site in the City of Durham.
Isnt that the way it always is? Money, money, money...
@@annam.addison2129 this is a couple years into the future but it is still there the building, left abandoned completely.
@@Joe-st9pz That's depressing.... too bad.
I've just come from DCC HQ Durham, we are now in the process of reopening the DLI museum once we rid ourselves, the county, of the Labour dominated county council, we are now awaiting the result of today's meeting. Best regards from Cllr Wheadon, Independent Alliance, Chilton and Windlestone.
