Normally I detest comments that use that word, however in this case I'll make an exception, he is right, it did accelerate online shopping and the use of cards, but if you stop and listen to this report one thing is obvious....the cashless society is being aimed at younger generations, and of course it's deliberate.
Closing banks too is part of that agenda because people are finally becoming more critical of the actions of big organisations and realise that the only way they can change those outcomes is to go against the grain so to speak, and in this case revert to using cash again.....I ignore any stories that are put out there that says otherwise.
By continuing to use cash it may halt these closures or at the least slow them down, but another scary point this report made that everyone should be paying attention to is how easy it is to scam others online, the use of AI is going to be the biggest tool in that regard as was pointed out here.
The point being, in relation to hard cash versus digital cash, which is the easiest one to manipulate?

They stopped asking after that. 😂

Do you realise cash has serial numbers on them? Banks, ATMs, Supermarkets all have to keep note of the serial numbers they take. It's also not illegal to share serial numbers.
Card payments are automated and encrypted. If you want to search transactions you need to know the card holder's date of birth and 5 digit phone and online access PIN.

@@ReviewAndAnalysis2732 In answer to your questions - Anyone who wants to. If your account is frozen this can only be done if you are being investigated for a serious financial crime, in which case you will have to do all your transactions via your police liason officer which would have been assigned to you when you agreed to all of your accounts to be frozen during the investigation.
Card transactions are encrypted and automated. The only way any one can view your transactions is by knowing your date of birth and 2 randomly chosen numbers of your 5 digit access code. Shop tills are emptied every few hours and the serial numbers are taken down for security reasons. Serial numbers can be freely shared, this is why bank robbers and staff who steal cash are always found. You can also extract DNA from cash especially the polymer notes (not meaning to start a conspericy theory). Businesses can refuse to accept payments, many businesses refuse to accept £50 notes.
No one will get their account frozen for no reason and banks have serial killers and rapists banking with them. In rare cases like with bank robbers who have previously shot employees of that bank they can refuse to open accounts but there are many other banks and they will find one who will accept them. There are cases where dormant accounts are suspended if you don't respond to letters warning you that your account will be suspended due to inactivity. Many people die and the banks aren't informed and the famies don't know about these accounts. Unclaimed money is held until claimed if they can find the next of kin.

Try send my mate 5 grand from your bank ......or even better go to the bank and ask for 11.000 cash you be there all day.

They can order it at the post office but change costs businesses as well as card transactions.
Big difference is cash can be kept out of the bank in circulation between customers, businesses and suppliers.
My boss pays his suppliers all above board with receipts cash.
Even the cash and carry are happy to exchange change for notes to save bank charges all round when he goes there.
I honestly don’t think people have woken up to the fact customers will be charged for every transaction once cash is gone, banks will want to make up for cash charge losses and a captured audience will have no choice in he matter

The big banks could not care less about their customers. All that is important to them is reducing their costs and therefore increasing their profits.
    They hate "The three Cs".
    Cash.
    Coins.
    Customers.
Branches cost money to run, therefore they must be closed. Never mind the customers, they are just an inconvenience, and stand in the way of profit. I have just left Barclays after nearly fifty years and gone to the Nationwide. The reason? Every single Barclays branch closed in every town anywhere near my home. When I asked why, I was told that "Very few people use branches any more". Funny that every time that I visited my local branch, ( which was at least once a week) there was a queue all the way to the door. I must have imagined all those queuing customers.
I have no doubt that the Nationwide will also close branches in the future, but, in the meantime, I still have a local bank.

I went to Istanbul in January … everything was cash because the economy was so poor. I loved it! Talking to people via an app is not good enough! No money for buskers, no money for charity boxes, no simple fundraisers for any charities such as churches, schools etc, no “Bob a job” for scouts…and it’s increasingly hard to teach children about money because they don’t handle money any more. This feels increasingly like control … the bank knows what I’ve spent, when I spent it, what I spent it on. I like my anonymity…I value my privacy.

I've been helping but she got scammed for 100k just after dad passed away. The good news, is that we managed to get the money back. I recommend, and this is a hard conversation, but you need power over her money to help her. These scammers tricked me too, took me a while to work out who was a scammed or genuine. • @Hansen710

most young people understand that the fiat money system is broken, and it is in debt forever..
so no matter if it is digital fiat or cash is is worth less and less.
and other digital values like bitcoin or other crypto coins are better for the future
just like it also make sense for companys to use tokens and not shares on the stock marked, because the system we have is not always about supporting the small.
the stockmarked often lives from shorting stocks and killing companys for gain
look what went on with gamestop at new york stock exchange a couple of times, this time they sold 40% more stocks then avalible to people shorting them (they sold 140%)
only bacause the small man could rally against it, it did not go as bad as it could have for gamestop

I am also concerned with the growing number of thefts from stealing your phone when you are talking on it to snatching your purse or handbag. If someone has your card then they can use it as it is now contactless. Uf someone has your phone they can aquire all your sensitive information. A local chain store has no cashiers, only machines, and when shopping there recently I paid with my debit card. But it gave me the creeps when I saw my own face on the screen. Machinery was watching me.
I often see people paying for their goods with a swipe card and they look so satisfied about it. That worries me a lot.
I saked my bank to takr the swipe facility off my debit card and they obliged. I must say I feel much happier having to use a PIN. I use cash whenever I can anyway.

All my opinion of course, but pushed people become resourceful.
