I first noticed tat there was some sort of problem about 5-6 yeas ago. Gradually., i could been over less and les. Three years ago, i was finally able to start physical therapy, and that time there was a slight bend, but i could still leave the house, but with a lot of pain. ALL of the exercises the therapist had me do was laying on my back or sitting on the edge of the therapist bench. You know, squeezing a ball between my thighs and lifting my legs in the air with the help of a rope with a opp as i lay on my back. Would tell me to lay on my back and lift my hips toward the ceiling, but i couldn’t budge. Did this for several months until covid hit, and i didn’t return, because it felt worthless. She told me to do it twice a day at home and i was going to therapy 2 times per week.then, it worsened over the last 3 years, and i find a lot of videos on the internet tat don’t make any sense for a person with an almost 90 degree tilt and i observed what i believed to be a lack of strength in butt muscle. All the videos for tight psoas would start with the person on the floor mostly. I couldn’t;t get up and down to the floor. Or they would start with something that required an upright standing position

I had polio at 16 months. I have been in and out if PT my entire 75 years… I had my Right knee replaced 16 years ago. I was told two years ago to stop doing all the streches I had been doing forever (ish) by that particular Physical Therapist ; who also told me to never walk anywhere without a cane.
I can stand up straight. I cannot stroll around aimlessly. I am able to walk “ normally” with a shopping cart. I am stiff upon rising with bilateral stiffness down both of my outer thighs …every Doctor I have talked about polio says something like: “ I have never met anyone who had polio before”! My back does not hurt and my bone mass is “excellent “. Covid has not been helpful and my sofa is not my friend! I enjoy your candor and appreciate your kind words…. I am adding these streches to my daily chair aerobics😅!

Im 37 and I havent recovered from straining my low back 2 years ago by repeatedly lowering my baby into the crib and staying in the bent position as long as I needed to make sure he stayed asleep before removing my hands from underneath him. He was a VERY needy baby and didnt want to be left alone. It didnt hurt while in that position but one night after holding that position longer than usual I could hardly lift the baby or walk the next day. I iced and stretched and with time its gotten better but still flares up especially after standing for long periods or carrying my now toddler. Was thinking abt seeing a Dr but found this video and felt a little relief after trying these stretches. Im hopeful it will continue to help. Thanks

Inactivity during the pandemic/fires and menopause led to serious hip arthritis and sarcopenia of legs/glutes. Too weak and painful to climb stairs, sit down, stand up, and kneel. I went from athletic yoga teacher to cane walker in 2 years. To recover, I’ve changed diet and re-started exercise working thru the pain. It’s an uphill effort, but small progress has been made and will hopefully continue. Against orthopedic advice, I cycled to keep joints moving since they were getting too tight from strength training. Stretching helps but strengthening has been most effective in regaining mobility. I have to unlearn all the compensatory movement I developed over time injured. Exercise, anti-inflammatory diet, and focusing on proper movement has been key to getting back to “normal”

I injured my knee playing football at 15 which left me with a permanent 10 degree bend. By my 20's I began to notice lower back pain anytime I washed dishes, shaved, etc. Anything where I had to bend over slightly. I think walking on slightly different length legs may have contributed. By my 40's I got outsourced and ended up working in a call center for 16 years, unable to stand or move around at all. During all this time I walked, ran, biked, hiked, lifted....with mostly knee pain. A couple of years ago I had a knee replacement but that didn't straighten the leg. My back pain began to increase and walking more than a mile became very painful. This video is me now. At 65 I walk like a 95 year old. I can't exercise like I used to and I finally went to a doctor. We're trying PT but the results are not great yet. I'm going to give these exercises a shot and see if it helps. Braces and pills worked for a while but now they do nothing. I just want to enjoy retirement and be able to do the things I once did while I still can.

I've Been like this for years It got worse in 2012 after I had injections Originally for hip pain But it ended up causing back pain And stiffness in my lower back That never goes away. Done everything to help this short of surgery which I was discouraged from doing saying that it probably wouldn't work by 1 doctor and another doctor said it would be maybe a year to recovery. If you can help me I will be amazed because you would be the 1st. Now along with this I have Osteoarthritis in my right hip Which has progressively getting worse due to a recent accident. In July I was finally able to receive disability but I Really I would just like to be my old self again and walk like a normal person as you stated it in your video🙂

I've noticed for over three years my condition has been getting worse over time, I'm now at the point of tears. I'll be 67 in august, and my body is so weak from being too sedentary from too much sitting. I can't stand up straight and my whole lower extremities hurt like hell. Walking has become very difficult. I fell like my gait is unstable and I'm constantly stumbling. I can't walk a full block without having to stop and rest. I use a cane off and on. It makes me feel so embarrassed when to see seniors much older than myself who can walk better than me. I'm so afraid I'm going to have to use a wheelchair to get around. I'm praying your exercises will help me to be able to strengthen me so I can stand straight and walk without so much pain and struggle. 😢

After several years, I got the name of an orthopedic doctor, who actually examined me, did some ex-rays & diagnosed a very bad hip! (I tried several doctors before this one). I’m now recovering from hip replacement surgery and doing physical therapy. It’s going to be awhile, but I the worst pain is gone. Gotta do those exercises- but get a diagnosis! Keep searching! I live alone, so obviously I can't, don't even want, to be in bed during the day. But it's impossible for me to stand up straight. I cannot walk without a walker/rollater. BTW, I have Myasthenia Gravis, but still I should be able to regain some strength, at least to my baseline.

Me too - same age - But here is one thing I learned that Might help you or others - I layed in bed and rolled my knees together slight side to sides a few times increasing over time - I stretched my legs and rolled my ankles stretching them and the calves (this one helped my balance because the weight gain also hurts the ankles) and then when I would stand and be more stable. Did arm exercises while laying flat - because I was too dam exhausted from pain and agony in my body in one section or the other to get up and do sitting exercises so I did it laying down. Maybe you can do that and gain some strength - its slow but its worth while.

COPD became very severe. No long able to stand or walk for very long and used walker to move around. Mainly sat at computer all day, as was difficult to do anything requiring exertion. Recently had lung surgery and able to breath a bit easier. Improving, but hate that every time I get up to walk anywhere, I am bent over. Eventually straighten up for a bit, to ease back pain. But cannot maintain that posture. Hoping what you are teaching will help me become a normal. upright human being, who can walk without feeling embarrassed.

I should mention I've had 4 low back surgeries: 2 spinal fusions, a Decompressive Laminectomy and a SCS Implant....so, I guess I attributed the weakness to just "bad back". If you are new to this channel, as I basically am as I found it only about a month ago, do yourself a service by seriously watching MANY of his videos intensively for the next many weeks before you decide about whether to actually go through with the hip replacement surgery - he discusses such surgeries a lot in various different vids. His information is amazing.

I work in a warehouse and the whole floor area is solid concrete. Plus, we have to wear safety boots. So after 8 hours, when I drive home, I have a hell of a time with foot, and leg pains when I'm driving home. The only thing I found that helps so far is sitting in a tub of hot water when I get home. I stumbled on these videos and I'm going to start working on strength exercises and we'll see how it goes. I appreciate your videos. Thanks for doing these !

I used to have a warehouse job as an order picker when I was in college. I walked miles a day for 8 hours on concrete. If I had to do that again, I would wear thicker shoes and be doing leg massage and stretching a lot!

I became chair-bound when I was taking off opioid medicine it really helped me get out and exercise and be pain-free from a long illness do too bad chemo. So I sat in a chair because it was the only time I had no pain. And eventually I could not straighten up no matter how hard I tried.😢

I first injured my back at work by twisting at the waist in the sitting position to pick up an object. That was 25 years ago. Now been retired for 20 years and when I do too much sitting and reading I am stiff. It helps when I bend down at the waist to get up. Better momentum and I am using both thighs.

Trying to keep a long story short - Numerous injuries to spine (several bulging discs 3 in my sacrum section, 2 in my mid and 1 in my neck, spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, age and immobility) all causing such fatigue and when I would try to exercise one set of muscles even easily and slowly it would flare up the other sets - a constant catch 22 of keeping me incapable of gaining the advantage so I could get mobile again. So 7 years immobility brought me here. And the weight gain does not help this at all ! Each time I began to feel improvement I would seek PT at home &/or professionally . But I would fall or have some other set back. Recently I began to heal enough I felt strong enough to try again. Now First time in eight years I do not have back pain. So I Joined a Sit and Be Fit Class in order to slowly progress. Then I got a Double hamstring injury - no idea what I did to cause it - all exercises were slow and easy - of course it didn’t happen while exercising it was after relaxing one day - the hamstring on one side worse than the other and on that worse side the piriformis muscle became so tight I can hardly move (locked in place) and of course it is flaring up the sciatic nerve. Good Grief. So now I am not in pain in my spine and neck and not fatigued from it but I can’t walk or stand up straight !! I am a pretty tough old lady though and I can get through a lot of pain to do the hamstring and piriformis stretches but at times it is so excruciating I nearly want to pass out and that happens mostly if I am standing and start to bend slightly at the hips and then - I can’t stand up straight and if I don’t sit down I will pass out its that agonizing. I am so happy to find this video you have shared with us - I know I can try these exercises and I believe its going to help a great deal. I can’t wait to start taking walks again and just do normal stuff. I am going to let you know how it goes. Thank you and God Bless you for sharing your knowledge.

etymology (I looked it up.) *psoas (n.)* is a bilateral muscle in the loins or pelvis, 1680s, from Greek psoa (plural psoai) "muscles of the loins." Related: Psoitis; psoitatic.
The word "psoas" is Greek for the loins, the muscles of the lower back.
The psoas major is a long fusiform muscle located on the side of the lumbar region of the vertebral column and brim of the lesser pelvis.
(Gk. [psoas], the gen. of the feminine noun [psoa], was mistaken by the French anatomist Jean Riolan (1577-1657) for the nom. of a (nonexistent) masculine noun. It was he who introduced this erroneous form into anatomy. [Klein])
In the Greek alphabet: ψόας (psi, omicron, alpha, sigma).
Too much: The iliopsoas muscle (/ˌɪlioʊˈsoʊ. əs/; from Latin: ile, lit. 'groin' and Ancient Greek: ψόᾱ, romanized: psóā, lit.
The Psoas Muscle - The Muscle of the Soul
The psoas muscle can also take on stress from our emotional body, similar to the way our shoulders can become tight after a traumatic or stressful situation. This is why many have referred to the psoas muscle as the 'muscle of the soul'.Nov 4, 2019

I was in a horrible car accident and was broken badly. I had a compound fracture in my ankle that forced the bone out even where I could see it with my shoe on because the impact of a fracture to the small calf bone, fibula?, broke with such force against the tibia, the large bone. I was bed ridden for 4 years while they tried to save it and had 7 surgeries with fixators(cage) and the 8th they took it out while I tried to walk without the bones fused and no cartilage in my ankle. Reoccurring bone infections caused me to tell them in Dec the 3rd year to cut it off. That started a chain reaction and in 5 years I had 15 surgeries including a massive heart attack. But I stood fine and walked fine early on . I had a steroid injection in my lumbar and I felt so good I put down 450# of dirt, regraded my mulch beds, took all the mulch out of 12 years then I reached for an empty paper bag and something popped on the left upper mid back. I could not stand up. I spent 3 days in bed and during that time blood had drained under the skin and pooled at the lowest place/where I was sitting. I tried for months to teach myself how to stand up again. The dr and hospital refused to do an MRI until I did therapy. I refused therapy I’d to treat a known condition and they didn’t know. So 4 years later I’m 56 walk with a cane or cart. No disc left between L4-L5, stenosis,
Radiculopathy, herniated and bulging discs, spondylosis, butsitis, and there’s 1 I can’t think of. I’m scared at 56 I’ll be in my wheelchair in a year full time. I cannot stand up! If I arch my back I feel like I’m doing a back end and then I’m straight! But my muscles are in a constant state of tightness being hunched half over. The pain is unimaginable and I can’t sleep! I’m ready to die. Literally feel like I’ll be in a nursing home but I’m alone and still trying to clean mulch beds out. Shoveling out old mulch, raking. I’m hurting so badly.

Hi. what your doing at about three minutes in, could that not be done as effectively with a foam roller, or a combination of foam roller and a variation of a low lunge yoga pose? Or perhaps with a smooth Lacrosse Ball while in a Pigeon Pose ( that is if a person is familiar, experienced and knowledgeable of how to experience the pose as well as flexible enough to do the pose safely while leaning into a smooth lacross ball) Thanks!
