- Have a Naze32, Afroflight 32, Flip32? Any other Naze32 variant? You can upgrade from Baseflight / Cleanflight to BETAFLIGHT!!!!
First I'll entertain you, and then I'll walk you through downloading Betaflight 3.2.5 and flashing that new Betaflight firmware onto your old Naze32 or Naze clone flight controller.
No warranties implied here, do it at your own risk, but it's time for an upgrade anyway!!!
Naze32 Betaflight 3.2.5 firmware file: github.com/bet...
Betaflight Configurator: github.com/bet...

ZOMG you're a lifesaver!! I did need to pull the old 10.7 version of the Configure app that you're using in the video; the latest 10.10 as I write this won't talk to this old firmware. But that's fine, it works! And no more fighting with the old Chrome app that doesn't like Windows anymore.
Priceless! Thank you for the introduction to STM32CubeProgrammer. I flashed successfully to an old AfroFlight Naz32 board and successfully flying!
Happy flying!!! 😊
OMG,
this just saved my naze32 from being exchanged ! Thank you so much! -Subscribed
You're very welcome!!! Happy Flying! :D
You sir, are a life saver. iv a ton of old naze 32 boards lying around that i could not do anything with. just followed your instructions and boom.. iv got life back into my old boards. i,ll use these for bashing and testing, and i,ll get some more as their like $10 each. Much appreciated
Happy to help! Yes, these Nazes are cheap and great!!! I love them as well. And fully capable. Really the only issue I have with these older boards was the lack of OSD to monitor battery voltage. But for those builds I use buzzers that plug into the balance plug and do fly-bys to listen for it. ;) Lol.
Happy Flying!!!
@@TheWayneStevenson yes i agree, i use the Matek HubOsd eco Pdb,s. These work great.
Thanks! naze32 & cc3d get upgraded from cleanflight to inav 1.7.3 using your method, all similar way to flash the hex file
Very happy to help! :)
😮 GLAD to find your channel
I have been trying to resurrect a five-year-old drone for the last 48 hours and your advice got me there within an hour thank you
I'm here to help!!! And thanks for watching Mike!!! Happy flying!!! :)
@@TheWayneStevensonin base flight i had a magnetometer option , after flashing 3.25 naze its grayed out , even after checking the box .. any reason it wouldnt be supported ?
thanks Mike
It's likely just your resource setting for your i2c bus. It doesn't know what pins you have it on. Did you happen to save your resource configuration from Base Flight? That would make it easier to determine where it needs to be. Which exact FC board do you have? Is your magnetometer built in to the board or an external one?
@@TheWayneStevenson
Thanks for the quick response
Me and Cougman are the same
Just got back into the hobby again
after about 4 years
So I’m currently trying to bring a Emax Nighthawk 280 pro back to life
I tried the 3 configuration programs (Beta Clean and Base)
Funny because Baseflight is the only one that has the magnetometer feature available no matter what boxes I check
But Baseflight won’t save the arm or flying “modes”.
Also the only configurator that I can setup the ESC’s!
So basically I have got up and running but on a total manual mode
Currently playing on a simulator but I’m pretty nube
I have a immersion rv vortex 285 that I love because it is simple and works and yes I saved many backups and used rxrange quite a bit in CLI mode to set up my channels
Thanks for the help again
@@mikejohns7272 Awesome!!! It's a funny tech hobby. I see a lot of people upgrading to the latest and greatest yet a lot of the holdups were simply software. This old tech flies great with a solid flight control software on it. If it weren't solely for the onboard OSD available, there's not a lot of extras that I personally need to rip through packs. I've taken advantage of the stacks mind you. I love having my FC, ESC, VTX, and RX all on convenient stacks.
Dude thank you for this! Just updated my flureon 250 racer with this info
Very welcome! :D
Glad I found your video, trying to revive the hobby and my QAV180 back to life back from 2015/16 with a Naze 32 Rev6. It actually worked after flashing with Betaflight, even tho it showed the exact same error message. I just pressed connect. And it stated 3.2.5 instead of the old 2.9.0 from 2016! So no need for STM32CubeProgrammer for me atleast =) Cheers
Great to hear Dave. I've usually had good luck with Betaflight Configurator but every now and then...... 😉 A handy tool for when it doesn't. 😀 Thanks for watching.
Still works after 4 years :) Dusted off my old drone and needed a quick fix as this board still has hours of flying to to :D
how did you connect it to the stm32 software, my pc cant find the board
Id like to kno as well
Worked for me. Note as below I had to solder the boot pins together for the flashing part. Otherwise the STM32 programmer just erased the chip even though it reported flash successful. i.e. just a Solid Blue after reboot. All working now. Great job !!
Thanks for watching! Glad it worked for you! :D Happy Flying!
Thank you very very very much!!! You save me purchasing a new FC. I'm on a really tight budget at the moment but thanks a lot to you now i am able to enjoy my quad.
Sweet! I'm glad I could help! Have you put some nice flight time into it? 😀
THANK YOU SO MUCH, i am new to this and first updated with cleanflight because it says it has a firmware for NAZE32, but it didnt turn after flashing and i tought i broke it😢 but it works again
You are the best after so many videos I solved it, by your video Thanñs alot !!!!!
Awesome - was having so many issues until I found this. Great job.
Happy this helped you William! Thanks for watching!!! :D
we need this video and you did a good job!
Thanks for saying so!
here i am in 2024 looking at my very first afroflight zmr250 with the zmr pdb.. and it still boots up. just need to cli it. lol elrs and it will fly!
the STM software I downloaded looks 10000000000% different than yours. You should do a remake with current software.
Got it flashed... looks like 3.2.5 is not compatible with the current version of betaflight
vanhalla vanhalla you a god bro...
Just found this video, Thanks for the info! not sure about the intro footage however........
No worries! Lol. Just trying to keep myself entertained. Happy to help you!
thanks alot...really helped with this old quad...had to use stmprogrammer...afroflight32
Thank you very much.... You made my day happy.
thanks man....it really helped me
You're very welcome!!! :) So happy it helped! Happy flying!
thanks for bringing me up to speed two years late.. lol
Lol. My pleasure. ;)
@@TheWayneStevenson I pulled out my naze32 and thought it's about time I got my quad working, only to find out there's little-to-no support anywhere. But I think you've got me rolling, should I even spend the time making this work or just get the latest from Amazon?
@Insight Of the ages Well, if you just need a FC, then it's great. Doesn't have all the new functionality that later versions of Betaflight supports. But it will fly great. The biggest drawback for me is the lack of an OSD. Mainly for battery usage. However if you stick a camera that has a voltage monitor then that's a plus. Though I have grown accustomed to flight mode indicators and VTX channel display.
@@TheWayneStevenson thanks.
Do you have a recommendation for a cheap modern flight controller
Did the configurator flashing process error out due to the manually download 3.2.5 firmware not being loaded? It seems like the configurator tried to flash the wrong firmware onto the Naze32. I didn't see the "load firmware [local]" step in your video.
My screen record software didn't capture the extra screens that popped up.
But to answer your question, no. It will put whatever flash file you tell it as long as there is sufficient memory on the device.
@@TheWayneStevenson Prior to watching your video I had managed to flash Betaflight 3.2.5 on my Naze32. After manually loading the local firmware version I found that the key step was to click to activate the "flash on connect" option in the firmware flasher area. Then with the boot contacts shorted out plug in the Naze32 in and it would just flash. Your video is helpful though to know of an alternate method to try in case there would be some issue with the configurator. Cheers.
That method has worked for me in the past as well flashing these boards. But definately finicky things. And I have yet to solve the mystery why. Perhaps age /corrosion are adding resistence and not pulling the boot pin to the proper state. Fresh solder.on the pads seems to often help Modern F4 boards seem to be a lot better at this with their momentary switches.
STM32CubeProgrammer works the best thanks for the help.
my problem now is the remote does nothing with the drone, i can only see the battery %.
do you know how to configure it?
It works! However, I can´t connect to the motors page. It just says "waiting for data"
Is everything together and your Lipo plugged in? It may need everything plugged in to work properly. If so, not sure why you can't get that tab working.
W-eye?
I’ve got 6 of these. They all worked when stored years ago. Problem is none of them will connect to anything to be flashed now. All my other flight controllers connect no problem.
The flight controller shows up as connected and working properly in my computers device manager.
I get no boot loader mode even with the boot pins jumped
I get the solid blue light on the fc but no version of beta flight or clean flight will recognize the fc under any circumstance
Very weird. This has to be a compatibility issue. There's nothing that should cause all six of them to just stop working. Did you try soldering the boot pins? That can help overcome oxidation that can prevent a good jumpering.
Hi a friend gave me a drone with a afroflight 32 installed it has a old version of baseflight on it. I've followed your video and keep getting : Error: Activating device: KO. Please, verify the boot mode configuration and check the serial port configuration. Reset your device then try again... How do I fix this.. completely new to this never done anything like this before
This is also what I get in STM
Thank you for share
After betaflight install can be set up an GPS resque?? (if have GPS connected)
Betaflight at some point dropped GPS rescue due to firmware sizes but those older versions used to have some GPS functionality if I recall so hopefully doable.
@@TheWayneStevenson Thanks
I am just now finishing my drone build that I found in a drawer pre college. It says that there is no debug probe detected. What should I do?
Minor bug: the pitch does not move the little quad graphic
thx you so much but the magnetometer is missing. Do you have a solution?
Bro all I'm getting is cli on the f1 blue pill chip, see if you can get pass this and let me gno, 👌👌✌
Bonjour on peut flash cc3d ovo sthaistpin zmr250 comme votre vidéo merci
tks
You're welcome Marcos. Thanks for watching! I hope it helped! :)
@@TheWayneStevenson um abraço do Brasil !
I can't find 3.2.5 for Nazu can you give it to me here?
The link in the description will take you to the file itself for the Naze32 hex file.
@@TheWayneStevenson how do you connect it to the stm32 software, my pc cant find the board
@@TheWayneStevensonupdated video plz
Yeah the whole close up of mouth and stuff, little weird.
this just made it worse. I cannot get it out of boot mode now.
I got it working by HOLDING the boot while downloading in STM! :D
That's great to hear. Thanks for sharing the solution.
@@TheWayneStevenson No problem, I hate finding comments about people finding the solution and not saying how they got it to work. xD
Благодарю!!!
hahaha this is hilarious
Glad you enjoyed!!! Thanks for watching! 😀
Hi. I'm following all your step on video. After flashing with STM32, i disconnect the FC and plug it back. But the FC still in flash mode. Can you help? Thanks
Do you mean it's still coming up in DFU mode? Once the boot pads are no longer being bridged, that shouldn't happen.
@@TheWayneStevenson yeah. That's what i expected. But until now, whenever i power up the FC, only solid blue light showing. Any idea? Thanks
@@natgyver2993 Was this happening before you flashed as well or was it working fine?
Does it allow you to upload the firmware?
@@TheWayneStevenson hi. Sorry for late reply. The problem was solved. It turns out i have to connect the boot pad along the flashing process. Thanks for your help
@@natgyver2993 Perfect. So glad you sorted it out!
