  • I built this Sonex Model ONEX in 2016. It is powered by a UL Power UL350is direct drive 130 HP engine with a Prince Prop. I have been asked many times what the top speed is. To answer that question once and for all, I did this speed run at Wharton Municipal airport KARM at sea level in Texas.

200mph, wow. What do you normally cruise at though?
I'm thinking of getting one of these and folding up the wings and trailering back and forth to the airport to save on hanger cost. Is there any reason that would be too much of a pain in the ass to do?
Do a lot of people do the UL350is engine?

You have to love to build aircraft, have the special skills to pull it off and the funds to buy the kit, motor, prop and electronics..................total cost for the project was $65,000 and 2 years of construction. It was my 6th aircraft after building an RV-4, RV-6, -7, -7A and another -7A. The engine is the UL Power 130 hp UL350is, fuel injected direct drive 3.5 liter 4 cylinder with a Prince Carbon fiber prop. the aircraft weighs in at a very light 645 pounds.

Yep, when I saw that rating I was sold and built the aircraft in 12 months, an easy build and flies like a little fighter plane..................fun stuff!

Multiply by 1.15 to covert to Mile per hour. We often use mph instead of knots

Nope technically No...........way too fast. One reason I bought the ONEX was the aircraft has a never exceed of 215 mph, that is the engineering rating by Sonex Aircraft.. still can't believe that little thing has that rating
