John, without understanding the meaning of Sufi poetry, one cannot enjoy the true feeling of this song. Its lyrics are out of the world! Both the singers are in a trance since they are singing with emotions that can only be felt when one understands the true meaning of the poetry.
I am addicted to his song. I have been listening to this song since the day it was released. Every time I listen to it, I feel it as if I have listened to it the first time, never feel bored listening to it again and again.
John, Thanks for reacting to quality music. You mentioned about the 'time signature'. This is 14 beat cycle, it is called 'Deepchandi'. The reason why it is difficult to count is because the way the beat is structure it is not obvious identify where the beat one (aka Sam). It is divided into 4 parts and split is 3,4,3,4. Please listen back and where in the chorus they say 'Yeh achi', where she says CHI - that is beat one and you start the count from that point. another reason it is difficult to count is because the distribution of beats in each sections are not equal. If you have 2 parts of 7 it is difficult flow in straight forward patter because the fact they are odd number of beats (7 beats in each section, if split into 2). it would feel like it is going off but it has not gone off. Indian classical beat patterns are do complex and you have to learn the 'Laya' to fully appreciate the complexities. Thanks
@@saaimzeeshan421 hi saaim, apologise if the comment caused offence. Pakistan came into formation in 1947. Lots of the shastria Sangeet has been around for 1000s yrs ago, if not 10s of 1000s of years. Raags deriving from yogic and rishi days and they took sounds of nature to make the 'saregamapa' as we know today. Then there we gharana again way before pakistan existed I think your suggestion of your referring them to as 'South Asian' is accurate and will use that and I will use that going forward. We love pakistani artist, style and tradition. I had the pleasure of travelling pakistan, and we are going again. People are amazing and welcoming.

React on Mundari by Ustad Nasseruddin Saami Coke Studio Season 4 as he is the last living vocal practitioner of an ancient 49-note microtonal Surti scale
That peice by Naseer Sahab is beyond this world, Level of Coke Studio Pakistan is a torch bearer for the whole world but Mundari is like a glowing notch on that torch. Its such a shame that Ustaad Naseeruddin Saami is very less known despite being the only singer that i know of in the world who can sing all 49 microtones; that level in thia day an age almost impossoble even for biggest of ustaads.
If you are interested in more Abida Parveen & Coke Studio collaboration these are the must listen songs: *Nigah e Darweshan*, *Soz e Ishq*, *Ramooz e Ishq*.
You really well summarized without knowing the deep rich meaning and understanding of South Asian's Sufi culture. She is phenomenal and what you illustrated is exactly she is
If you can only understand the lyrics/poetry...Pakistani songs heavily focus on poetry man, just moves you...no need for the these videos, we can just close eyes and get into trance mode listening to Abida Parveen and the deep poetry.
Just saw your recently uploaded video. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Please accept my condolences 💐. I wish you to grieve thoroughly and heal fully. Amen 🙏.
Great video, as always. And what an awesome recommendation by you: Never knew of Alabama Shakes before this. Just checked out "Hold on" - Awesome and inspiring. Now I have to re-watch your other videos and listen to your other recommendations to find more such gems :) Keep up the good work.

My coke studio recommendations:- 1) Charkha Naulalkha (by Atif Aslam & Qayas) 2) Garaj Baras (Ali Azmat & Rahat Fateh Ali) 3) Chal Raha Hun Mein (Umair Jaswal)
Hi @John Cameron, I was wondering if you ever get to meet Yousuf Estes (born: Joseph Estes, 1944), since he was also former Texas based musician? Joseph Estes completed his music studies in the early 60’s, became a music teacher, and even played accordion for popular musical productions in 1968. He was known for doing grandstand and performing in touring road shows. He even worked for NASA in some capacity in the 60’s. He started owning music stores in the 70’s, and later became a music minister, calling people to Christianity through his love of music, Jesus, and the Bible.
The meter or the count that you couldn't catch is a cycle of seven beats. The rhythmic cycle is called Roopak. And I think the reason why it isn't easy to catch is because western music hardly ever uses a seven-beat cycle. Western music is usually sung to a beat of eight, or multiples of four. Either that, or the waltz count, which is a count of three or multiples of three. Roopak is a very commonly used beat cycle -- seven beats.
If you had an understanding of the lyrics, you would have felt elated. You have, however, beautifully described the emotions and feelings of the artists. Great reaction, by the way. Love and regards from Gujranwala, Pakistan.
All classical music belongs to subcontinent specially Pakistan, good to see a pop start atif singing classic with Abida perveen legend. I wish you could understand Urdu language full of emotions and purity.
Not a coke studio song, but I think you would love it so much... you ll definitely love it, a very under-rated master piece "Deewana" by Ali Azmat. The audio n video both superb. Another "Chal Raha Hun Mein" by Umair Jaswal coke studio I highly recommend because this song encompass the whole feel of Pakistan's true pop music. Do listen these both songs.
Hey there you should add haiderium, miyan ki malhar, hairaan hua, charkha nolakha and rang laaga to the hat, they’re really underrated coke studio & Nescafé tracks & I think you’ll enjoy the musicianship
One of 90's Pakistani famous sufi music band named "Junoon" had reunion in 2018 after many years ago they performed together live in Karachi along with old band member the US based bass guitarist "Brian" and one of the new US based drummer "Taylor Simpson" they performed many songs in that particular concert please react on "Saeen" and "Sayonee" you will find both songs in Taylor Simpson official channel

I do believe, watching your reaction on a Panjabi folk + sofi music produced by Coke Studio, would be fun. Would you please go for "Jugni" by Arif Lohar. Not, even, trying to appreciate your style of working because I don't have proper words to do the justice (Edited.. Fun fact.... The song "Jugni" was a milestone in Coke Studio history. This song was the very first introduction of our local music to the international audiences specialty West.) Love & Respect from Lahore
