    Also, I forgot to mention that she was up for a part in “In Old Chicago” about the Great Chicago Fire. Plus, I realised too late that “Let’s make Love” was released in 1960, but I’d argue really had a very 50s flavour to it

    • @bobpierce115
      @bobpierce115 2 года назад +5

      I agree with you about "Let's Make Love" having a very 50's flavor to it being from 1960 itself. Even though the 60's took on a look of their own even by 1961, it wasn't quite there overall in '60. One exception IS Marilyn's own 1960 film, 'The Misfits' where she definitely already had a 60's look which was surprising as she (and the film) were probably the first to do so in the new decade.

    • @HamishDownie

      She definitely had her finger on the pulse of the 60s with The Misfits. It would have been interesting to see how she would have handled the lightening fast changes in the decade

      Thanks for your great imaginations! The main difference between Marilyn Monroe and her blond imitators is that Norma Jean wanted to be a great actress and since day number one in Hollywood , she was a work in progress! She was magnetic in the screen! And she was doing a transition to more dramatic roles like in The Misfits representing a woman older than herself. I do not see Norma Jean as a performer in Las Vegas because she was trying to move away from a cliché! She did not need studios promotion because the entire media and the world was fallowing her and she knew how to manage them and promote herself. Many people in Hollywood did not respect Marilyn because she did everything by herself without a family and in a non conventional way! With all her contradictions and personal problems , she was determinant, very strong and a work in progress! Norma Jean created Marilyn Monroe as an artisan , she was fired more than once , they make funny about her , she resisted everything, she was to NY to take classes at the Actors Studio, and every time she fought with the Powerful Studios , she won! Even in her last fight, she was rehired before she accidentally died! Little Norma Jean really changed this world! ❤️❤️❤️❤️👋👋👋👋👋

    I believe that had she lived she would.have developed Marilyn Monroe Productions further and she would have written, directed, and produced a variety of top notch films and some of which would be very clever statements about the world we live in that would still be poignant today. I believe she would have been in front of the camera but in a much broader sense where she could play much deeper characters, tested boundaries, and taken the industry in a whole new innovative direction. She had an IQ of 160 and was always studying. She was brilliant!

      @@HamishDownie The movie was never intended to be "finished." Marilyn signed a life insurance policy and the studio collected 13 million which in today's value in film would be 90-110 million. 20th was drowning in debt due to Cleopatra and E.Taylor's antics and health complaints. This was Marilyn's last owed contractual obligation to 20th..Greenson was employed as her handler and "psychiatrist" to keep Marilyn addicted and more. He employed Eunice 6 months before Marilyn's death. Eunice Murray slowly poisoned Marilyn with minute drops of cyanide, undetectable and hence why she emptied the refrigerator into her bag before she left, as opposed to putting it in the bin. They then changed their stories many times over and deflected all suspicion toward Bobby Kennedy. Even Hoffa knew what happened to Marilyn and he had the listening and recording devices to prove it. He told the PI Marilyn was dead early in the evening and was all shook up for a hardened mafia man. The studio are entirely to blame. And couldn't lose Marilyn to her own production company.

      Marilyn married for strange reasons. Especially Arthur Miller, it appears she was attempting to insinuate herself amongst intellectuals in literature in order to be taken seriously as an actress and get better roles. Marsha Mason married Neal Simon and got better roles as an actress. A common actress tactic.

    Great video! I'm a huge Marilyn fan, and I can see some of the directions you speculate her life following. However, I really believe she would have become a BIG Civil Rights advocate of the 60's. She was a Democrat, very liberal, and socially progressive. She used her privilege to help Ella Fitzgerald get booked at the notoriously racist Mocambo nightclub, was very close friends with Sammy Davis Jr., and supposedly had the "hots" for Harry Belafonte ("Marilyn's Men" by Jane Ellen Wayne, p. 58). She could have easily attended Martin Luther King Jr's speech at the Washington DC mall in 1963, like other White Hollywood celebs (e.g., James Garner). And because she was very open-minded and befriended several gay actors (e.g., Montgomery Cliff), she probably would have become a Gay Rights advocate in the 70's and 80's. Imagine her at a Gay Pride Parade... 🤣😂More than anything, hopefully she would have been happy!!!

    • @HamishDownie
      @HamishDownie  2 года назад +9

      I hope that she would have been happy too. I'm sure she would have continued to be a part of the civil rights movement. I imagine she would have followed her friend Eartha Kitt's lead. I imagine that Eartha's blacklisting would not have lasted 10 years had Marilyn been alive. And yes, I imagine that she would have been a friend to the LGBT just as Elizabeth Taylor was. I still feel that she would have joined forces with Jennifer Jones and brought awareness to Mental Illness. MM was truly a one-of-a-kind star.

      Yes, Joanne Woodward looked awful. I've noticed with a lot of these (talking about future episodes) that when roles were intended for someone, they usually styled the replacement to look like the person it was intended for. I didn't know about Irma La Deuce. That really puts a spanner in the works about one of my theories. I might have to do a cliched reaction video. I decide to explore the idea of her potentially remarrying Joe (not sure if their second marriage would last or not though) and finally having a child since she did want to have a family (since I roll random choice generator for child births of alternate people in my timelines, she has a son). in 1950's sexuality, but at age 36 (especially during that period), she may have been nearing the end of her time,

    If she has lived,she would've been thrown away by Hollywood by the time of 1975 or earlier. Jane Russell stopped acting at 40 because she was "too old" and wouldn't look good for a sex symbol for others, they would've found another Marilyn Monroe and the cycle continues
    Marilyn would've focused on Marilyn Monroe Productions instead,and be a director or playwright.
    I feel like she would've adopted instead of having a child because it was almost impossible for her to have a child,it would've been a boy and girl,

      Did Elizabeth Taylor’s Star fade? I’m not sure if I agree with that. But, I know what you mean, the element of tragedy is part of her stardom. If she had lived out her natural life, she probably would be thought of on par with Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, and other great stars who had long careers. However, how many stars, including the tragedies, are we still talking about 60 years after their deaths? Not many. Marilyn could be in a scene with some of the greatest actors of stage or screen, and she would outshine them all.
