I can tell you first hand two issue right away, 1. Sun and heat, in Florida my iPhone overheats in the sun pretty fast and the screen dims as well. 2. Battery life, if you use a phone or a tablet the screen will have to be really bright and that eats battery life pretty quick. and another note, I feel a screen needs to be a minimum 12", 9 and 10" screen are just too small. There's no free lunch guys, there's a reason Garmins are expensive.

    • @sixtogarcia1314
      @sixtogarcia1314 4 месяца назад +4

i agree on the free lunch quote. I own a 13 inch m4 i pad pro... and its battery life is absolutely astounding. And the screen is so bright u can read it outside in the sun. The resolution blows away any garmin chart plotter so if its being utilized the definition should be astounding. It has a double layered oled screen which is how it gets so bright... and technically you can keep it charged easily off the battery bank. To be fair this is a $1200 device. Garmins entry level 12 inch unit is $1500 (down/side scan transducer included) with no increase in pixel pitch so its a bigger picture but necessarily a more detailed picture. There is also the 11 inch version Ipad which is identical besides the smaller size that prices out at $899 which is just about what i paid for my garmin 93 sv uhd chart plotter. I can literally stream movies off my ipad for at least 10 hours. So yes you have some valid points to be sure but i would definitely like to test this out for sure. Garmins livescope starter kit at 12 inches is $3,199.96. Depending on Accuphys cost it could be a legitimate contender. Now the quality of the software is going to matter so this is all pure speculation. But like you said money is money is money.... and usually you get what you pay for so we will see.

@@sixtogarcia1314all good points. I’m not sure what LiveScope resolution is being pushed to the graph. My 8612 is 1920x1080 yet when zoomed into about 70-90 feet of range it’s pixelated. Many have seen my videos and admire the clarity what they are not considering is that my range is set at 120-135 feet. So it looks really clear. Zoom in and you lose some the clarity.

@@marksanko6138 you’re obviously not from the south. I’ve got sunshades on my Garmin’s and they work great early and late when the sun is low. From 10:30 to 4 they don’t do anything to shield the Florida sun. Like the previous reply to my comment you’ll spend a bit to get a descent tablet that you can see with decent battery life. Not sure you’ll save much in the long run. However if competition gets Garmin and others to up their game on features and/or price. I’m for it.

Yeah, the overheating is a problem except for they have some pretty cool shrouds meant to be used for your remote control with a drone that could be just used as a sun cover. That would work really well to keep it from overheating just a thought. Either way, I’m excited about it coming out.

Technology is moving faster while we have to fish slower to catch quality fish.
Apple is the way to go when dealing with business applications.
The overheating issue happens alot with tech items in the outdoors.
The Cannon EOS R5 camera kept overheating. Photographers had to put fans to cool it down. The camera body listed at $2500.
Newer version with the issues fixed listed at $4200 really! ( lens not included)
With the new 2025 FFS rules of most of the leagues, I think alot of the anglers will go with an improved side scan or 360 and a motor.

    Couple of things...
The lvs 32 will in fact do perspective mode and it cost 999 (including black box)
you can use it with a echomap uhd 73 sv for cheap for 400 or so bucks or 600 bucks if you opt for the 93sv (find the units that include the gt54 ducer).
A diy pole is cheap, 50 bucks or so.
17 bucks for a finder mount.
So livescope isnt that expensive and its designed for around water use and doessnt overheat.
Their choice to use apple was very stupid!

The website says Android version in coming in 2025.
As for the overheating issue, I am typing this on a Okitel RT5 Android tablet ($250) that I have used with the Garmin navionics boating app for the last two years.
I live in Alabama and this tablet is regularly used in direct sun in 95-100 degree temps for 6-8 hours at a time and has never overheated once. Paying $1000+ for an ipad that is already prone to overheating to use with this sonar unit is insane.
While I don't think this sonar unit has the clarity of the higher end Garmin units, it seems to me to have plenty of resolution to at least let me know that there are bait fish there for my castnet and if fish are at least present on the structure I want to fish. Good enough for me.

They’re gonna be in the $500 to $700 range but as you stated you still have to get an iPad/ phone if you don’t have one and some sort of mounting and protection so you’re still back up in, the normal range for a FFS unit, but it is nice as you stated you could have it on your phone and walk around with it.

If they are serious about making a dent in the market, they NEED to make an Android version and to push updates regularly. As this is an app-based product, they also need to publish tons of, or get a hold of, maps from around the world (USA, Canada, China, etc), otherwise, it is pretty pointless and you'd be better off going with the cheapest live sonar there is and buy the transducer for it and the maps.

Accuphy - Panoptix is the Chinese 'live scope" for iPad. Their website claims sold out. may be true as I'd certainly buy one but I'm wondering if they aren't under attack by the big fish-finder companies OR being bought out by them to keep it off the market.

The screen is not bright enough to use in bright sunlight. They will also quickly overheat and shut off when used in direct sunlight. The touch screen and glitchy when wet or with wet fingers. In cold weather, battery life is greatly reduced.

I thought about Livescope Plus. A display only and Livescope Plus over $3,000 plus would still need system to mount it on side or back of boat. We have a fairly new Humminbird Helix 12 Si G4N so I bought the Mega Live. With all the updates it works fine and I invested around $1800. Humminbird had Helix units on sale discounted $500. Cabela's I got military discount and because of a mess up another 10% off and Helix 10 Di G4N just over $700. I also bought the Ethernet and two cables and found a ram mount on eBay for $52. I use the main unit for sonar with GPS Map and back unit to display Mega Live. We troll for salmon and also spring anchor fish for Summer Steelhead and Spring Chinook Salmon. The unit in the back will be great while anchored to see fish passing through and our gear. Seeing your gear and fish isn't real easy and requires ajusting sensitivity and contrast and settings based on water conditions.
