I know this video was posted months ago, but I've watched it several times, and I think it's fantastic--everything from your process to the description of your setup. Though I don't have any desire to start a channel, I do have some small private video projects I want to do; and even though I've never had any vision, I have always been very visually conscientious. As part of my process of learning to capture the world visually, I want to work toward making projects that are fully engaging on all levels. One of the complaints I have heard from my sighted friends is the bulk of videos they've seen made by a blind person are difficult to watch because of poor camera positioning or constant jerky movement, lighting, etc etc. The perfectionist in me wants to do better. I don't have any problems asking for sighted help--and I have in the past--but I'd also like to learn what I can do alone and get reasonably good at it. Thanks for sharing your process. I love your presentation style because it's informal but very organized and easy to follow.
Hi! Thank you so much! I’m so glad this video was helpful for you. I agree that if blind RUclipsrs are hoping to reach a sighted audience then their video needs to be pleasant for sighted people to look at.
I've only been making RUclips videos for about two months, and this is also the number one question I get. Thank you for your perspective. And I'm still debating whether I should make one about my process. Great work, as always.
I am a visually impaired creator as well. I have retinitis pigmentosa. I have a very small visual field. It is nice to hear how others do their process.
Hi Cayla, I have RP and I just started my channel for about 4 months. I love your channel, because I can get a lot of informations about RP. And also you inspire me to be stronger to face this reality live with RP and it is progressing.
You do such a great job with all of your videos and an excellent job with your ability to edit. Your sound quality has always been excellent, even when you were using just your iPhone. I think it really helps that you prepare your videos mentally and are very well organized with your thoughts but it is super impressive that you articulate and have, in my opinion, a very good voice quality for The audio portion of a RUclips video. Your Disney audio description was amazing and I think if you could see, you would be an excellent audio descriptive performer. LOL and thanks for the tour of your beautiful guest room. As for me, I do all of my videos myself but they tend to be action videos with me out and about so I just do my best to aim at what I am trying to video. Some of my subscribers actually comment on what the camera is capturing.. Thanks for sharing how you do this and Sharing the view of your entire guestroom. Love, Beverly
Hi Beverly! Thank you so much! I really appreciate all of your kind words. And good for you for filming your own vlogs. When I am out and about my husband does the filming for me
Hi dude thanks for this video! I’m recently semi legally semi blind and still struggling to adjust. Used to be an accountant and now trying to find out what to do. Thinking of making youtube videos and this helped me greatly. You’re an angel. 💝
Hi Cayla, thanks so much for sharing how you make videos! I am in some big changes in my life right now, and am investigating whether becoming a RUclips creator is the way forward for me, at least in some respects. And your video definitely helped me get some more clarity about what can be used and how filming can happen. Keep up the good work!
The natural light issue is hilarious! i’ve had several videos that I’ve had to redo because it’s pitch black outside. LOL Are my personal favorite, having the wrong facing camera enable! Thanks for sharing
This is awesome! Thank you so very much for sharing. It is really amazing the way you have overcome this challenge and shared it with us so that we are educated on the process. Today your video inspired me to take a video on my phone of my daughter. I am still waiting for my wife who is at the dentist to validate my work 🤣
Very informative video. I always find it interesting hearing how other blind folks make their videos. Your guest room sounds very lovely. Thanks for the description.
Thanks! Yeah it is pretty cool. I feel like when I first started doing RUclips there weren’t very many blind RUclipsrs, and now it seems like there are a ton of us
I have a youtube channel in the works. I teach people how to play different instruments, but the primary instrument is guitar. My focus for the channel is to go more in depth and explain how & what to play, and give some insight on how to learn with a visual impairment. Your setup is similar to mine, i use a shure mv88 microphone that plugs directly into my phone. Imovie works well. I learned how to add my own channel name with some music i wrote. There is a product i cannot remember the name of, but it is a bluetooth foot controller to start and stop recording. I will try to find the name of it.
That’s really awesome! I will definitely check out your channel. I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the guitar, but my hands are so small it hasn’t gone very well
I have small hands as well. I have the hands of a teenager and i’m 35. With the right guitar and guitar teacher, you can learn how to play. Knowing piano will help with the theory side of guitar. I should have my first video or two uploaded by this Friday. I will let you know when i do.
Thanks Cayla. One thing Matt from Blind to Billionaire mentioned he uses for lighting is a clipon ring light on the smartphone. Maybe that could help you when you don't have good lighting.
Thanks for the suggestion. What’s funny is that I filmed this video before Christmas and ended up getting some lights as a Christmas gift, so now I have them

Nice vide Cayla. Although I still have remaining vision, I use similar techniques to film my videos. My channel on hold for now but I hope to start uploading content again soon. You do an excellent job 👍.
Hi, my name is Doug. I am another blind RUclipsr here as well. Nice to see you are independently making videos yourself. That is awesome. Here is my process. I just recently bought a tripod so I’m going to attempt to film very very soon if you all have questions for me, you can reach out to me and I will answer any questions that you guys have. Thank you so much for this video. I am new at making videos and you are the first one I’ve seen give a specific example of how to edit Imovie. You mentioned using the arrow keys to move a few frames but how do you know how many times to move? I’ve searched for shortcuts but they all seem to be for sighted users. Do you have some mre helpful hints? Thanks
I am so glad this video was helpful! The arrow keys move one frame, and shift arrow moves 10 frames which is about one second. So when I pause when I start to hear myself talk, I can usually tell if I need to go back one or two seconds. So I usually do that and then split it and see if it sounds good. If it doesn’t I do control Z to undo and try again. Hope this is helpful
Yes, I do have a little bit of vision. I can see slightly more than shapes and shadows. I can make out the shape of my phone so I know generally where to look
I am struggling with the editing process on some of my videos. I open iMovie, and I try the exact steps that you outlined when it comes to editing out certain parts, but I can’t seem to get it to work properly.
Cayla with a C Hi Cayla, even though it has been a couple of days since I wrote that original comment, I have taught myself how to edit video to a certain degree. The only thing that I tend to struggle with, is using the keyboard to delete unwanted content. The way I work around it, is I use the keyboard to go through the various portions of the video, and then I use voiceover on the iPhone to track along with the various transitions. I generally find myself having to listen for how long the clip is that I don’t want, because sometimes I might accidentally delete the wrong one. Still, I find your channel to be very interesting.
Hi Kelly I am a blind user and I want to make video but I don’t have room like you extra so I have to move my tripod every day. It is a bedroom share with my family what you recommend for me thank you
Have you ever considered purchasing a ring light? I got mine with my tripod and it also came with a Bluetooth remote so that I could stop and start my videos. It was only $30 on Amazon for all of it. Also, is iMovie accessible without the keyboard commands?
What’s funny is that I filmed this video before Christmas, and then my husband ended up getting me lights as a Christmas present, so now I have them. And yes, imovie is voiceover accessible and you can use it without the keyboard
As always, interesting video. That shirt made me laugh though. Also, your voice is getting a tiny bit deeper. Less squeaky. Easier on the ears. Finally, it would appear you visual-obsessed hubby thinks you're visually appealing. EGO BOOST! Also finally (goddammit, you've got me doing it again, lol) it's not weakness to ask for help for things you physically can't do (and the man's offering right?) No human, able or disabled, is a mountain unto itself. www.twitch.tv/blindryan ruclips.net/user/rkade8583 I don't put in that much production. Editing software gives me a migraine. So I just shoot from the hip. Your method is more successful but my main gig is twitch and reviewing games for ways they can be more accessible to us VIPs. Gotta have a niche, right?
Lol you always make the most interesting observations. And yes, everyone’s gotta have a niche. I think it’s totally fine if blind/VI RUclipsrs don’t put a lot into production. I’m a perfectionist so I want my videos to look perfect even if I can’t see them, but that’s just me
@@CaylawithaC I am too but I pick my battles. I think the devs appreciate my less professional and more candid approach to how I do things. Nobody bothers recording those "oh shit" moments and you get the most of those at the very beginning of a game, when you're figuring it out. I'm glad you like my comments. I'll keep them coming. :)

Great video. I use Flimora to edit my videos. They have a free and a paid version which is $45.00.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Kelly I am a blind user and I want to make video but I don’t have room like you extra so I have to move my tripod every day. It is a bedroom share with my family what you recommend for me thank you
Nice video
Thank you!
Cayla when do u post New videos?
John Cunningham on Tuesday’s at 3:00 pm Central time. But I don’t always post every week
Cayla i just heard u rap u got some real talent i mean that was really good
Thank you so much
Where did u learn to rap like that?
Have you ever considered purchasing a ring light? I got mine with my tripod and it also came with a Bluetooth remote so that I could stop and start my videos. It was only $30 on Amazon for all of it. Also, is iMovie accessible without the keyboard commands?
What’s funny is that I filmed this video before Christmas, and then my husband ended up getting me lights as a Christmas present, so now I have them. And yes, imovie is voiceover accessible and you can use it without the keyboard
Hi cayla! Can you suggest any camera app for android that talks? I am also blind and i'm looking for an app like that to help me film videos .
I’m sorry but I’m not familiar with android at all
I use Filmer.
I am also blind and just subscribe to your channel I put up a few videos on my channel as well not sure if I'm going to do it full-time…
Hi. Thanks for subscribing. You definitely don’t have to do it full-time. You can just put up a video whenever you feel like it
Well that's better than what I do, just record and hope for the best lol
Lol there’s nothing wrong with that. I’d probably have a lot more time to make videos if I did it that way
I am a VI youtuber as well.
Thanks for letting me know! I look forward to checking out your channel
Cayla with a C you’re welcome
You’re adorable
Hi Cayla. My name is Ray, and my channel is called My Multiple Life.
Hello I aam also blind and I have a channel
I'm leagally blind and i Have a youtube channel.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing
I am blind
As always, interesting video. That shirt made me laugh though.
Also, your voice is getting a tiny bit deeper. Less squeaky. Easier on the ears.
Finally, it would appear you visual-obsessed hubby thinks you're visually appealing. EGO BOOST!
Also finally (goddammit, you've got me doing it again, lol) it's not weakness to ask for help for things you physically can't do (and the man's offering right?) No human, able or disabled, is a mountain unto itself.

I don't put in that much production.
If your blind, why wear glasses ?
Hi. I actually get this question quite a bit so I made a video about it. You can watch it here ruclips.net/video/Lhun48MI6HI/видео.html
I am also a blind creator. Another thing is if you want notes is if you read braille you could have a braille display in your lap
