If you didn't like the service model on Finnair then never, EVER, fly on an American carrier. The service provided makes me feel embarrassed to be a pilot.
US airlines are one of the worse on the planet. They can be compared to low budget carriers such as Easyjet or Thomas Cook, except that you might get tazed on board if you sneeze without asking for permission.

Phenomenal effort with this video, homer! What a wonderful review of an airline I don’t see you fly very often. I love the brutal honesty you voice about this airline and the lounge. Many times, I see Finnair business class on sale, and I am tempted. However, since they are not star alliance, I rarely (basically never) will buy the ticket. Now, after seeing this video, I will for sure not buy it unless they make some serious fundamental changes. Your analysis of the wines was also excellent. I really enjoyed that part. Hi Homer :) It´s so great to see a new trip report on your channel. Well done! I really like the seating which I think is the same as the Swiss Business Class seating. Well the food looks not really like Business Class but okay :D Anyway a great video and great to see that you´re back. Ich fliege in knapp 4 Wochen nach Thailand mit Thai Business Class....bin schon sehr gespannt, da ich auf der Reise sowohl den alten Sitz im A330 (2-2-2) und auch den neuen Sitz in der 777-300ER (1-2-1). Thanks for the video. I quite like the idea of the paper amenity kit bag because I often walk off the plane and see amenity kits thrown on the floor and suspect they're all thrown out (I take mine home and use them as toiletry bags) which is a terrible waste. I appreciated your video because I'm investigating flying Finnair to London next year as a cheaper business class option from Australia than Qantas. I believe they're upgrading to A350s in the near future too.

I have to say I knew what I was getting into when I started watching your report, finnair is not known for being an excellent choice in business so I never fly them, especially when spoiled by Turkish or SQ :) Still though I loved watching your report, and that taxi driver in BKK really wanted you to capture that sun hehe

Recently I had the chance to fly first class on Delta from Detroit to Seattle and the entire trip I thought of how you would have rated the service. Thanks for making it fun!
What a very interesting report Homer; a complete mixed bag ! You seem right about the wines though; a poor selection indeed, and the economy wine couldnt look cheaper no matter how hard it tried ! thanks for sharing your thoughts on Finnair business class. Ironically I just arrived home after a long day, and opened a bottle of Gruner Veltliner, thinking to myself 'lets put you tube on and see if there are any new trip reports', and this was waiting for me ! thanks again [ I remember one of your QR reports you were drinking the same ]

Great review. One note tho. The Glasses used by Finnair are not designed by "Uma Thule". They are actually designed by Tapio Wirkkala for the Finnish company Iittala and the series of the glassware is called Ultima Thule. :)
This looks a lot like Iberia old airplanes business class (long distance, from Madrid to Lima) which believe me there are more old planes than newer now . I love your videos , I'd only been on Iberia (old planes) business class so I live vicariously through you the amazing business class that emirates and Qatar airways are! Greetings from Italy!
Great video as always Homer, thanks for sharing. Got to be honest, that service (and meal) is more premium economy rather than business class. You can see why the top 3 Gulf carriers are doing so well. I do find it amazing that other airlines can't make a name for themselves and produce an all around business class product that could give the Gulf carriers some real competition. Hey Sir !!! All your Belgians fans were waiting for your new video but... As you said, it really does not look like the quality you would expect from a business class but to an economy class. Gradually as your journey progressed, it was improving. Even the two lounges in Bangkok were zero. Waiting for your next...:):)

Ahh how i've waited for this :D As a person who has really never flown anything besides Finnair, Although this will change in few months, I find it great that someone actually did a proper video on Finnairs business class. Now the Finnair business class isn't obviously the best but it is not the worst either. Just the fact that Finnair is very reliable and has one of the best safety records out there makes Finnair a great airline. Homer i hope you enjoyed, at least somewhat, the great airline i grew up flying on and thank you soo much for making this video :D Also i'm pretty sure you couldn't get in the First class lounge because Finnair has no first class. I'm not sure, I think the general level of the lounges are pretty bad in Bankok, Finnair is too small to have their own lounge anywhere besides Helsinki. In the near ish future Finnair is going to upgrade some of the asian routes to the a350 with a better business class which by the way looks very nice, The old one is.. old.
minesens My friend, I fully agree with every word. See my comments above on elevat. And beleive me: I like Finnair a lot after this flight..But with the A350 they cannot compete based on price anymore. The pictures look great. Lets hope they will introduce a new service concept..crew hinted so.
I've only flown finnair on business on short flights to london and i don't really mind the idea of serving drinks and foods separate but im usually an ecomony class traveler. I can see how some things are very old fashioned. Although i do like the little unique things finnair has. If flying for pleasure Finnair is not your optimal choice, although the FAs are always really nice, I remember as a little kid they would always let me in the cockpit after the flight :D
homer3152 Prices are same even after A350's will arrive. Finnair has very good campaign prices for business class about 3 times a year and those times I will book my flights
Thank you homer for this Finnair useful review, I like two things for choose Finnair: their good hours connection (for European users to fly to Asia) and the fabulous lounge in Helsinki; as you said, the outdated on board service concept it's something that should be changed. See you soon
Another elegantly produced video! I loved the views of the Hindu Kush and Afghanistan. The lounge in Helsinki looked very modern and sophisticated. From a calorie counting point of view, it doesn't look like you were exposed to very much temptation :)
Great video. Been to Bangkok many times. I used to rode on AOE Airport Taxi in past and now ride on normal taxi from airport to condo last winter ago. Foods look saap and the seat looks comfortable. Never seen Asian crew on Finnair. I cant wait go back to Thai on this winter and fly on PR B77W or TG B772 from MNL to BKK. Wait for the A350 go on Finnair.
+odynny STAIN REMOVER -- obviously, for the semen or breast milk STAIN, food we use Washing Machine, airline / hotel stain, we use that FINAIR wet-tissue (stain remover)
Many thanks for your video. My family fly Business class two times a year to Thailand - and have been trying out different airlines. We find very informative videos such as yours a good starting point. Flying is not fun - but it can be better or worse. TG is currently then only non-stop service to BKK from BRU. But it is about 34% more expensive in J than any other airline - though it is very good. Austrian Airways, which we used in July returning August is now OFF the List. Good price - terrible experiences. Etihad and Emirates - though with that annoying break in the middle of good sleeping time - are second top of our List. Finnair's connection times are OK. Thanks to your video I have removed Finnair Business class trips from all possibilities. Nice cabin staff (take note Austrian Airways) - Food and wine look gruesome. The seats look very narrow. I also noticed the In-flight magazines were very worn. The "amenity kit" is truly appalling. My daughter collects these kits to give to kids in the Thai slums - but that one..... In closing - again my thanks and congratulations on so much useful information, Chris

Wines were as champagne:Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Grande Reserve, white wines:Villa Maria Savignon Blanc 2014(New Zealand) and Vulcaia Sauvignon Del Veneto 2014, red wines:Imperial Reserva 2010 Rioja and Chateau Beau-site Cru Bourgeois St.Estephe 2010, sweet wines:Quinta Do Portal Porto Colheita 2000 and Vidal Icewine Pillitteru 2013 (Canada)
Mikko Lehtinen Thank you. I use the little detail of the port wine to compare overall quality, and this shows a big step down from the 30-year Kopke served to me in YYZ-HEL two years ago.

Always love to see your videos! One place I do not agree with you is the window shades. I hate it when I am traveling through different time zones and trying to sleep (or even watch a movie without the sun glare on my screen) and the window shades are up...just my preference...I'd love to see yoor review if you ever travel Jet Airways...Thats one airline I would recommend whose service is at par with Emirates/Qatar.
Raghav Sanghi Thank you for your comment. We both know window shades are a controversial issue. From my point, people should simply put on the eye shades if they want to sleep. What really nerves me though is when the shades are put down on a full day flight, leaving Europe in the morning, travelling south. But there are other places where people discuss this. BTW: if shades were put down on day flights, there would simply be no homer videos:)

I encourage you to try United again. They have the new Polaris business class with luxury lounges, fine dining (in the lounge!), artisan cocktails, and saks bedding. To be honest though they did not get rid of the champagne in a plastic cup concept!
Wow Homer terrific report! Your commentary is like we are one of your pals sitting across the aisle. What a hoot the Finnair food service. Amazing that Finnair management is so disconnected from the end product that they don't give great attention in all cabins to passengers - welcome, drinks. Until the pad thai arrived the food looked terrible. What I don't get is the Business class seats sure are a big step down from 20th century travel. They look thread bare and dirty. The one Finnish flight attendant we saw was charming - I wanted to see more of them. But why is the Finnair culture that they remain hidden until a button is pushed? Great mix-in of the airport lounges. Would like longer segments of video looking out window!
George plays... Surely, the "California one" that tasted a bit like "children's birthday" (15:30) was not the Schug, was it? The horror. I should check out their recent vintages.
George plays... Well..what can I say. It was the Schrug. And maybe it ws just myself. Maybe my taste buds in limbo after the sweet Viognier. Maybe the glasses. No idea. I drink a lot of Pinot Noir. Maybe the altutude. Schrug should be fine..but at this moment..on this flight..it just tasted to me like i said. Maybe i should try to get a bottle here in Germany and try it again.
Please tell me the inflight catering has now improved. That food looked pretty bad. I'll be flying Finnair business class ORD-HEL on the A330 in June. I'm now starting to wish i had booked BA Club World via LHR or the direct AA 777 service instead. On the plus side, those flight attendants seemed really friendly so service good but I'm still reading my return flight in June.
Thank you once again Homer for sharing your experience with us. Finnair has always had a nack for the Asian market making use of their geographical location and indeed do serve a number of destinations in the far East. Like you, I like the cabin colors of white an light blue fabrics. The business class seats looked a bit on the smaller side in width but I will take your word for it saying that they are indeed comfortable. The PTV size and IFE seem to be disappointing. The service concept is much below what is to be expected nowadays and sadly food presentation was indeed below average.
+hmasurg Northern European carriers are a little bit "egalitarian"..you don t have that splash of luxury that you have on Gulf carriers or on Far East carriers.
+am1966ath a very good and interesting point. I think it's something to do with the "EU Look" - Egalitarian, authoritarian. Passengers are only welcome because it says so on page 1,284 of the Manual. The EU Biz Class Lounges are looking more as if they are designed from some bureaucrat - bland - very basic and minimalist. If you go to the "Senior Officers' Dining Room in Berlaymont - it really is First Class. Best of the Best wines, white gloved servitors, comfortable seats etc etc. Then you drop to the "Cafeteria" for the rest.

Yup, the first of the some 11 A350s started operating on the Shanghai-Helsinki route recently.

Thanks, another great video. I appreciate your comment of Finnair's service as outdated--certainly not up to the standard of the other premium airlines you fly. Recently I had the chance to fly first class on Delta from Detroit to Seattle and the entire trip I thought of how you would have rated the service. Thanks for making it fun!

Great review. One note tho. The Glasses used by Finnair are not designed by "Uma Thule". They are actually designed by Tapio Wirkkala for the Finnish company Iittala and the series of the glassware is called Ultima Thule. :)

This looks a lot like Iberia old airplanes business class (long distance, from Madrid to Lima) which believe me there are more old planes than newer now . I love your videos , I'd only been on Iberia (old planes) business class so I live vicariously through you the amazing business class that emirates and Qatar airways are! Greetings from Italy!

Great video as always Homer, thanks for sharing. Got to be honest, that service (and meal) is more premium economy rather than business class. You can see why the top 3 Gulf carriers are doing so well. I do find it amazing that other airlines can't make a name for themselves and produce an all around business class product that could give the Gulf carriers some real competition.

Martin Ryan Thank you very much! Actually: the price I got was probably around the price of premium economy of other carriers..in which case, however, I would prefer the Finnair product..Premium Economy can be quite louzy, as disappointed collegues told me after a LH Premium Eco flight

As you said, it really does not look like the quality you would expect from a business class but to an economy class. Gradually as your journey progressed, it was improving. Even the two lounges in Bangkok were zero.

Ahh how i've waited for this :D As a person who has really never flown anything besides Finnair, Although this will change in few months, I find it great that someone actually did a proper video on Finnairs business class. Now the Finnair business class isn't obviously the best but it is not the worst either. Just the fact that Finnair is very reliable and has one of the best safety records out there makes Finnair a great airline. Homer i hope you enjoyed, at least somewhat, the great airline i grew up flying on and thank you soo much for making this video :D
Also i'm pretty sure you couldn't get in the First class lounge because Finnair has no first class. I'm not sure, I think the general level of the lounges are pretty bad in Bankok, Finnair is too small to have their own lounge anywhere besides Helsinki. In the near ish future Finnair is going to upgrade some of the asian routes to the a350 with a better business class which by the way looks very nice, The old one is.. old.
minesens My friend, I fully agree with every word. See my comments above on elevat. And beleive me: I like Finnair a lot after this flight..But with the A350 they cannot compete based on price anymore. The pictures look great. Lets hope they will introduce a new service concept..crew hinted so.
I've only flown finnair on business on short flights to london and i don't really mind the idea of serving drinks and foods separate but im usually an ecomony class traveler. I can see how some things are very old fashioned. Although i do like the little unique things finnair has. If flying for pleasure Finnair is not your optimal choice, although the FAs are always really nice, I remember as a little kid they would always let me in the cockpit after the flight :D
homer3152 Prices are same even after A350's will arrive. Finnair has very good campaign prices for business class about 3 times a year and those times I will book my flights

Another elegantly produced video! I loved the views of the Hindu Kush and Afghanistan. The lounge in Helsinki looked very modern and sophisticated. From a calorie counting point of view, it doesn't look like you were exposed to very much temptation :)

Great video. Been to Bangkok many times. I used to rode on AOE Airport Taxi in past and now ride on normal taxi from airport to condo last winter ago. Foods look saap and the seat looks comfortable. Never seen Asian crew on Finnair. I cant wait go back to Thai on this winter and fly on PR B77W or TG B772 from MNL to BKK. Wait for the A350 go on Finnair.

My family fly Business class two times a year to Thailand - and have been trying out different airlines.
We find very informative videos such as yours a good starting point.
Flying is not fun - but it can be better or worse.
TG is currently then only non-stop service to BKK from BRU. But it is about 34% more expensive in J than any other airline - though it is very good.
Austrian Airways, which we used in July returning August is now OFF the List. Good price - terrible experiences.
Etihad and Emirates - though with that annoying break in the middle of good sleeping time - are second top of our List.
Finnair's connection times are OK.
Thanks to your video I have removed Finnair Business class trips from all possibilities.
Nice cabin staff (take note Austrian Airways) - Food and wine look gruesome. The seats look very narrow. I also noticed the In-flight magazines were very worn. The "amenity kit" is truly appalling. My daughter collects these kits to give to kids in the Thai slums - but that one.....

Always love to see your videos! One place I do not agree with you is the window shades. I hate it when I am traveling through different time zones and trying to sleep (or even watch a movie without the sun glare on my screen) and the window shades are up...just my preference...I'd love to see yoor review if you ever travel Jet Airways...Thats one airline I would recommend whose service is at par with Emirates/Qatar.
Raghav Sanghi Thank you for your comment. We both know window shades are a controversial issue. From my point, people should simply put on the eye shades if they want to sleep. What really nerves me though is when the shades are put down on a full day flight, leaving Europe in the morning, travelling south. But there are other places where people discuss this. BTW: if shades were put down on day flights, there would simply be no homer videos:)

I encourage you to try United again. They have the new Polaris business class with luxury lounges, fine dining (in the lounge!), artisan cocktails, and saks bedding. To be honest though they did not get rid of the champagne in a plastic cup concept!

Amazing that Finnair management is so disconnected from the end product that they don't give great attention in all cabins to passengers - welcome, drinks. Until the pad thai arrived the food looked terrible.
What I don't get is the Business class seats sure are a big step down from 20th century travel. They look thread bare and dirty.
The one Finnish flight attendant we saw was charming - I wanted to see more of them. But why is the Finnair culture that they remain hidden until a button is pushed?

George plays... Well..what can I say. It was the Schrug. And maybe it ws just myself. Maybe my taste buds in limbo after the sweet Viognier. Maybe the glasses. No idea. I drink a lot of Pinot Noir. Maybe the altutude. Schrug should be fine..but at this moment..on this flight..it just tasted to me like i said. Maybe i should try to get a bottle here in Germany and try it again.
Amazing and very honest report. Next time, I recommend that you try Austrian Airlines Business Class, you won't regret it.

Please tell me the inflight catering has now improved. That food looked pretty bad. I'll be flying Finnair business class ORD-HEL on the A330 in June. I'm now starting to wish i had booked BA Club World via LHR or the direct AA 777 service instead. On the plus side, those flight attendants seemed really friendly so service good but I'm still reading my return flight in June.

Finnair has always had a nack for the Asian market making use of their geographical location and indeed do serve a number of destinations in the far East. Like you, I like the cabin colors of white an light blue fabrics. The business class seats looked a bit on the smaller side in width but I will take your word for it saying that they are indeed comfortable. The PTV size and IFE seem to be disappointing. The service concept is much below what is to be expected nowadays and sadly food presentation was indeed below average.

I think it's something to do with the "EU Look" - Egalitarian, authoritarian. Passengers are only welcome because it says so on page 1,284 of the Manual.
The EU Biz Class Lounges are looking more as if they are designed from some bureaucrat - bland - very basic and minimalist.
If you go to the "Senior Officers' Dining Room in Berlaymont - it really is First Class. Best of the Best wines, white gloved servitors, comfortable seats etc etc. Then you drop to the "Cafeteria" for the rest.
Aye I just went to Bangkok :), fly Thai Smiles when you get a chance if you go back :D def. recommend!
