    You act like he's bad. He's not, and I thought his career was over. He's just overpaid. Every team has overpaid for someone and most teams have an overpaid player so it's a bit of a who cares. It's not like the Cubs are known for making good moves anyway.

      I liked him at first when i first found his channel a couple of years ago with his highlights and the occasional high edited commentary video.
      Now all he does is nitpick about any player. He does the same video format with a different player over and over again. He rinses and repeats a video format. He'll go from "This Is Worst MLB pitcher of 2024" to "This Is The Worst Player of 2024" to "This Is The Slowest MLB Runner In The MLB Today".
      He also has a clear bias against the Yankees as well, which I don't mind, but he makes a video of them way too often and clearly holds a crutch for a Yankees topic video because it's an easy video to make for people who don't like the Yankees that brings in more views onto his channel. Taking advantage of recency bias and sounding like a broken record while doing it.
      His channel is creatively bankrupt. He's just milking the last of what he has left with the channel with the declining viewership, and he'll disappear and never to be heard from ever again

    Yankees needed a good outfielder (so Judge could go back to RF), a plus left-handed bat (still had a 111 OPS+ in 2024, better than Verdugo), and someone that isn't absolute garbage on the bases (aka everyone that isn't named Volpe or Jazz). So I don't see a downside.
    Yeah if the Yankees could drop the contract by about $15-20 million AAV they would, but the Cubs gave him that contract.
    If it works out and Belli even hits his 2023 level, not even his 2019 MVP peak, that's still a 4-5 WAR player.
    If Belli is consistent, that is still a .265/.325/425 player with 20 HRs, which is basically what they lost in Gleyber, who was 3rd in OBP and 4th in HR.
    If he struggles, he opts out at the end of the year, or the Yankees eat it for 1 more season. But they're the Yankees, whats $20 million?
    Bellinger is an average player at worst, and a great player at best, he's just overpaid. Blame the Cubs for that. All in all, there is no downside to this deal, unless you're the Yankees' accountant.

  • @gm2723
    @gm2723 6 часов назад +1

    Last year he was meh, 2023 he was good, that's a nice ops. The Yankees have him either for 1 year or 2, most likely they let him leave after this year so they can sign tucker. This makes him very valuable compared to the outfield free agents who have nices bats but can't field and are all really just DH's. I would say belly has a good chance at out performing both Santander and Hernandez. Since he has a good chance of hitting to the same level and will have positive value with the glove instead of negative.

  • @rickdiaz3657

    Bellinger has talent, there's no doubt about that, and he's still young. Perhaps his poor seasons are due to a mental problem or lack of motivation. It's not the same to play on a competitive team than on one that has no chance like the Cubs last year.

  • @mazhar1980

    Cody Bellinger should be swinging for the damn fences. The Yankee manager should challenge him to give him 40 homers because he’s capable of doing it. This guy can rake, get him out of his head worrying about strikeouts and he’ll takeoff like when he was a kid on the Dodgers.

  • @nacoran
    @nacoran 9 часов назад

    He can also slot in at 1st, which gives the Yankees some flexibility if the Martian landing finally takes off. He's a lefty, which the Yankees need just in general for balance, but also because they play at Yankee Stadium. He's still relatively young so there is at least some hope he can return to form with the right approach. 2023 Bellinger, being a lefty and giving them some position flexibility, and while the contract is a lot it's 2 years, not 15. If he's good enough he opts out and only gives them 1 year, they can be happy about that. He's still got a little speed. If he opts in, but he's a 2 WAR player he's still not the worst contract the Yankees have. He's cheaper and probably better than Stanton, and only a little more pricey than LeMahieu and likely to be way better than DJ.
    If the Yankees stay under the next tier of the luxury tax I give it an expected grade of C, because it is taking up a fair amount of cap space. I'd like it much better if it was a team option for year two. If they decide to go for broke, then I like it a lot better, because then he's only costing you money, not options. The odds of LeMahieu even returning to positive WAR, let alone getting to 2.1 aren't great, and Stanton probably will never get back to 2.1. That's $47 million tied up in what worked out to be combined -0.9 WAR. By the time that comes off the books Judge will be 35.

    1 WAR in free agency has a market value anywhere from 8-10 million dollars depending on the year. The Cubs paid Bellinger 52.5 million for 6.6 WAR over two seasons. It's not anywhere approaching a bad contract, it's an extremely average contract.

    • @Heybrotruthhurts
      @Heybrotruthhurts 14 часов назад

      That's not a good way to calculate if someone is overpaid or not. No one in their right mind would say a 2 WAR player (average player) is worth 20M. A star can usually consistently put up 4 WAR and they're usually paid around 20M, so that's 1WAR=5M. And it is a bad contract thats why cubs got rid of him and just decided to pay the 5M to the yankees.

    • @Nevertroon
      @Nevertroon 14 часов назад

      @ lol tell a casual what market value is objectively "but that's not a good way to do it". Ok buddy, but we live in reality and that's how free agent contracts are priced. The only reason WAR is worth less outside of free agency is because of how team control works. The cubs dumped him to get under the luxury tax, they were over by 400k last year which is a paltry amount but if they're over again next season they'll suffer stiffer penalties. This is why they got rid of him..salary dumps don't automatically equate to a contract being bad. Not everything is surface level, sometimes there are even complexities you are totally oblivious of!

  • @jacobkage727
    @jacobkage727 Час назад

    He shortens up with 2 strikes and just tries to punch it through for a base hit. This naturally is going to kill his average exit velo, if he was still swinging as hard as he could at every pitch, I'm willing to bet his average exit velo would go back up to what it was previous to his Cubs tenure.
    That being said, not sure if that was a personal philosophy change or a team suggested change. Maybe the Yankees will tell him to ditch the "just make contact" with 2 strikes approach.
    TLDR: I think he's still good, just a bit overpaid and maybe misunderstood.

He's a lefty who can play 1B + OF and numbers wise can at least play slightly above league avg if not higher. He's better than Verdugo, Gallo, Grisham, Hicks, and pretty much anybody we've had play CF/LF. Yanks are setting up Pereira and both Oswalds for failure, not him. Wrigley is a tough ballpark to hit in so yes, the short porch and other conditions would give him a good boost provided he stays healthy with his shoulder. Overpaid? Yanks got him because their player development is non existent and as a result they are desperate for bats and there are only so many out there. This passes as offensive upside. Awful. Long swing.

      OR Yankees got him because he’s a versatile defender and it keep their options open for next free agency.

      Spotrac has Belli at 26.6 and Freeman at 27. Like both guys though, and I hope they do well with their respective teams :)

      @@madethecutYou're right it's front loaded so Cubs paid the highest amount in the 1st year then it goes down slightly - I don't think he'll have the same postseason impact though

    He's pretty good just not a super star. I think he's going to do well with the Yankees. Like a Curtis Granderson
