If they had not won ALL of those games, they would not have made the playoffs, let alone the World Series, their first championship in the history of the franchise. I am looking forward to the 2025 season.
As a Mets fan I remember when deGrom left in free agency and everyone complained about them letting him walk but I knew with him being 35 and having the history of injuries that it unfortunately wasn't worth trying to resign him
He was already drastically breaking down. It was a no brainer to not give him such a contract. Rangers just got lucky how the rest of the team caught fire and went ham. Similar to Acuna going down in 2021, but the rest of the team went YOLO and still won it all.
I'm biased because I'm a Rangers fan, but Seager belongs in the S tier. Sure, he might spend time on the IL during the summer... but come October, he is the most feared player in all of baseball. The whole point of giving one player that much money is to win a World Series. Seager does that.
I’m a yankee fan but I’m here to confirm your bias because plain and simple with no Corey Seager there is no 2023 WS championship he was worth every dollar and then some to bring home the Rangers First WS trophy easy S in my eyes
I get that, but is he in Betts/Ohtani/Lindor territory? Not to me at this point. He’d have to do what he did last year over 150 for a couple seasons in a row to get to that level IMO
@@madethecut I would put him behind Betts/Ohtani and ahead of Lindor/Judge. Seager's D-WAR over the last three seasons has been 2.7 vs 3.4 for Lindor. Seager's O-WAR has been 15.2 vs 17.8 for Lindor. While Lindor does edge him out, Lindor played in 80 more games (basically half a season) than Seager. I'd rather have an elite postseason player that misses a month due to rest/injury than an every day player, assuming you have a solid back-up to replace them. Rangers had that with Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran. Also, if we are looking at longevity, Seager's contract is a lot better than Lindor's because Seager's was front heavy while Lindor's was the same $34.1 million for the entirety. Which means, the Rangers are going to spend $15.6 million less than the Mets will over the final six years. Plus, if we are going to consider Ohtani's generated revenue as a bonus/justification for his contract, then we also must consider that the Rangers do not win the World Series without Seager... which generated considerable revenue for the team.

It's interesting how his contract was graded. I would definitely say that Manny's first contract with the Padres was S tier. They got 3 elite seasons out of him at a bargain 30mil, naturally he opts outs, but the 2nd contract IMHO is a C tier one. Why extend him when you already had a elite SS in HSK and can move Tatis to 3b instead, and now need to pay big money into his late career bad years.
