Heyyy I totally support and understand the movement but I just wanna tell you that you shouldn’t donate to BLM. The money doesn’t go to black communities, it goes to political campaigns, these political campaigns don’t help black communities either. You should opt to donate directly to any program in your community that actually help black people. It’s just not fair that this money isn’t going where they say and people are just so blinded.
Lol well she needs new subscribers views most don't support it even my black family members don't support a thug gang. But we don't see color only racist see color
Whew now that this thrift flip is done I wanted to share some helpful tips! 1. The ideal thrifted denim would have been thick and sturdy, with little to no stretch. I chose my jeans based on trying to hit a sweet spot between colour, weight, stretch and waist diameter, but I do wish it had been a bit thicker with less stretch! 2. I never explained why I didn't do the crisscross back on the top, it's purely personal, I just prefer the way straight straps look on my back 3. For knits, it's ideal to use a zigzag stitch and even better to use a ballpoint needle. I know my straight stitches are not the conventionally correct way, I just like the control they provide on measurement lengths and I knew my top was not going to be dependent on heavy stretch performance when worn. Not trying to lead people astray on knits I'm sorry!!
these came out so cute💗 and for knits you can use a straight stitch as long as you pull the fabric while sewing!! it’s called an elasticized straight stitch :-) this way the stitches won’t pop!!
@@mrsmojet1 Not sure sorry, even amongst denim threads there are different colours so I literally brought these jeans with me to the store to find the right match!
On your brother machine you should have a strech stitch that is straight. Mine does. It sews each stitch 3 times and also works great for top stitching as it makes a nice thick visible stitch
I really want to make this skirt, I'm trying to figure out if I really want to pick the waistband apart so I can try and keep the pockets....I so hate seam ripping!
@@michellemaltman9267 I think some jeans pockets can be turned inside out almost completely, so they won't get under the stitching. I guess you can assess it yourself, but it's just what i thought. Wish you luck with the project)
If they can't be sewn around and you don't want to futz about with seam ripping and stuff, just do your decorative seams over the existing pockets, then just cut away the old pocket bags around the decorative seams as well as the pocket edge seams and waistband or wherever they're attached. Then just hand-stitch in a new set! You can buy replacement pocket bags already made from fabric stores and online, so you don't even have to make them yourself.
Thank you for being aware of what’s going on with BLM. You are one of my favorite youtubers and it’s such a relief to know you understand the complexities of our movement. THANK YOU. The skirt is also amazing !!!
Waited to see this !! Thanks so much. We appreciate it. Though we come for escape we do appreciate that you are taking the time to consider our lives as we do yours. Riri is black so it was just to tackle that topic. You also are a huge inspiration for us and help so much with all things sewing.
wendy!! please make a video on you tailoring pieces from your closet (if any) specifically, can you show us how to fix a wide neckline on a t-shirt? it also has a graphic on both the front and back. a series of simple alterations will be so fun to watch! ily 💞
Wendy, you inspired me to get into the sewing hobby and now i have a sewing machine and i do a lots of small around the house projects. The joy of constructing the garment and making it and then being able to hold the final product and wear it show it off is a-ma-zing. A wholesome feeling and it was just what i needed in my life. I am a medical student and now i do sewing as a hobby to relieve my stress and its all thanks to you. I nearly did all your basic sewing projects. I love you so so much, keep being great at creativity, editing and detail-work. I hope all the best for you! ❤️
Thank you for contributing to this important platform and for being open to wanting to understand more about a group's history in order to understand the present better. This shows real sophistication, compassion and maturity.
New to your channel, and hoping to start sewing soon. Already a fan of how real you are, plus your immense talent. But when i realized you're socially conscious??? Im sold! Sending love!
Wendy I'm SUPER impressed by this video! Both pieces came out great, you just get better and better each vid! Also, the fact that you're acknowledging the BLM movement and trying to take tangible actions in addressing it, ugh! We stan! Keep creating, please!
I trimmed and tucked the excess flap fabric and then held it down with two straight stitches in the contrasting thread. The fourth picture in this IG post gives you a bit more of a closeup! Just below where the zipper ends you can see that a little raw fabric couldn't get folded under so I just tried to trim as neatly as possible. instagram.com/p/CBqdZc6Hr6e/
You're amazing. And always so inspiring. Waiting for my annual leave so I can tackle some sewing! Just wanted to say because of your videos I think it's possible for me to sew an actual garment too!

Thank you for using your platform to not only speak about it but to give info in the drop down section so that others can read and learn. Respect ❤️.
Omg this is sooo cute! I love the skirt, I think I’m gonna recreate it but with triangle cut outs & no facing. Maybe keep the edges frayed? Thanks for the inspo! 💛💛
I understand how you wound up on that show!!! You're fabulous! And I know "fashion" is a cutthroat business, but should Thrift flipping be so competitive 🤔... After all you shouldn't have to feel redeemed when you are constantly making others lives better thru the hard work you are gracious enough to share with us. I believe you are awesome!!!
That's what I found, too, and it takes a long time!. I wanted nicer finished seams than a zig zag, and the overcast foot definitely fit the bill, but the time and thread use finally pushed me to learn to use the serger I found at a garage sale over a year ago for $25. Turns out the serger, even though it is almost 30 years old, is absolutely great! It goes great with my 30+ year old Pfaff Hobby 382 sewing machine.
Just wondering couldn't you have kept the pockets if you just flipped them out before sewing the corset details, and then flipped them back in for wearing purposes... Beautiful outcome and totally worth the pocket sacrifice if the above wouldn't work!!
This is the only jeans->skirt flip I’ve seen that I would really care to try out, the end result is truly lovely and the details are excellent. one question, is there a reason the facing has to go so far up? I would think that it would make the skirt a little awkward to put on/maybe affect the fit slightly?
Damn girl!!! You look so good!! You rockin those looks. And can we take in those model photoshoot pics that you quickly skimmed through?!? I had to go back to watch em again
I'm considering Invisalign as well but have been hesitant on doing so because it can get uncomfortable and also, costly from where I am! Would love to hear your journey someday in the future!
Very good job on the both garments. Working with a garment that looks "hand-knitted" can be a bit tricky, it's easy to drop stitches and get an visible run in the fabric of the garment, unless you want that sort of punk/grunge look. With the skirt, the only thing I would have done differently, instead of making a bulky facing for the hem, I would have used a colour-matched bias binding, to help eliminate some of the bulk, and turned the pockets inside out, and out of the way, before put the "corseting" lines in, and that way, you would still have full use of the pockets...over all, you have indeed redeemed yourself with jeans-to-skirt adventures... :))
i just discovered your channel Wendy, i really enjoy your videos, im amateur un sewing but i don't have my sewing machine with me in quarantine , so i just watch videos and plan future projects :) also you are very pretty

It's amazing that you can afford to give a whole month of earnings. That's so incredibly generous

especially the back one.
