- Derek shows us how to fully commission a condensing boiler to the manufacturers instructions and the new benchmark procedure. we also look at filling in the paperwork correctly so we comply with benchmark.
Thank you Derek for a accurate video on benchmark clears a lot of things up as a new engineer
You are the best in the UK. So easy to understand
Thank you Derek... Your vids are really informative and useful for both newbies and experienced guys like me.
Sharing knowledge for growth is one of the most precious gift that we as human beings can give.
Ignore the negatives as their lives must be extremely difficult...
Keep up the good work fella and you and your family stay safe.
Carl thank you and thanks for watching cheers
Yes, you are spot on about sharing knowledge.......most people enjoy learning things and it's our curiosity that helps make our world an interesting place ! I take my hat off to Derek - he's a star for making these videos. Even experienced engineers can learn from these - those that don't think they can't learn anything anymore that is.......You can teach an old TomKat new tricks ! If he were'nt so far away I would go to his establishment for my next ACS assessments.
Brilliant as usual !!! you never get tired of repeating things which make me a better understanding. Thank you Derek
Great video. Thanks for your good work. I think it’s worth mentioning, that what you mentioned in the video regarding the Benchmark mostly applies to England and Wales mate. Most of this applies in Scotland too but not regarding notifying building control or gas safe, also smart controls and weather comp etc not mandatory.
Brilliant - just Brilliant ... thank you once again Derek
I'm very pleased with my Ideal Logic system boiler, the work that was done was great effenced, neat,no hassel, arived on secudaedl time, work all completed as a result,my house is so warm, every one in my house is so happy.
Thanks Derek, great to get a heads up on the new Benchmark, good insight & very informative.👍
Amazing video once again Derek, very helpful step by step instructions for the commissioning. 👍👍😁😁
Nice video mate!Helps a lot us who are new in the industry!
Great video Derek if only customers didn’t fiddle with the temperature settings everytime we leave 😂 I’ve come back to homes and the temp settings are through the roof lol
Got my re-assessments once colleges reopen and have to admit I’m probably watching more videos than I should. This is definitely getting watched with my morning coffee :)
Good luck with the assessment 👍🏻
another great video. You are an amazing teacher
Wow Derek. What a fantastic video. Excellent explanation how to commission the boiler. I’m looking forward for part two. Thank you so much for the effort you put in making those videos. Well done. 👍😀
Cheers mate look after yourself see you soon 👍🏻
Thanks Derek Great tutorial videos as always
Thanks Derek yet another great video. I’m off to get the answers for 6@6 👍part 3
Thank you Derek.
Thanks Derek great video
Excellent video.
Great Lesson
Thank you very much sir
Regards
This is gold. Cracking video. Each step explained clearly. So lucky to have you as my teacher 😎.
When you did the working pressure at the meter you opened the tap at full rate with the hot water at the boiler on maximum. Do you also have to put the heating on maximum too?
Working pressure at the appliance in hot water and heating. Not high and low. Interesting!
Thanks Derek 👍🏻
Asian Jon. Training.
Thanks you Derek, could you do one on how to calculate the right boiler for a house please, as am new in the gas industry and I really like all the video you have put together very helpful many thanks
Thanks Derek, great video. Quick question, regarding delta T and flow rate temperature. If the temperature is lower than expected in MI’s for example, 35degree rise for 10.4 l/min flow rate can it be adjusted in line and if so how? Thanks. Rich
Awesome video 👍
Thanks pal great video.
Brilliant….helped me loads
Great video !
Great video as usual Derek , if you get a chance please do a full review / flue gas analyst of the bluelyzer analyser as I know you rated it highly and would love to see you use it analysing a modern condensing boiler and what your thoughts are on the menu's , setting's etc. Once again keep up the excellent work for all us gas engineer's sat at home and stay safe mate. Cheers
Oil Tec will do thanks for watching cheers
Great teacher:-)
Great information
Great video mate, good tuition, considering were in lockdown, keep it up pal.
Thanks Derek, got to get my level 3 assessor to watch me commission 2 boilers to finish off my portfolio, so good to see new benchmark. That TPI equipment looks good and easy to use. Not cheap though i bet?
Richard Stone it probably is the cheapest analyser on the market. Thanks for watching cheers
Hi Derek, just to check. After you purged the system you kept the gas running when carrying out the other tests at the test points with the manometer is that correct? Thanks
Thomas Bradwell
Thanks Derek
Hello Derek, your videos are great.
I have a question about Ideal Logic Max combi boiler. MI says to check working pressure at gas cock test point not appliance inlet, but pressure drop from gas meter to gas cock test point is more than 1mb. As far as I know they don't give a minimum drop permissible at gas cock test point. I would appreciate your thoughts!
Jaime Damascena the test point at the inlet gas valve is where you have your 1 mbr drop and the test point on the gas valve is to the manufacturers instructions for the pressure drop across the appliance
Great videos! Love them all!
Do you have a pdf link for the new benchmark?
Cheers
You can go onto their web site and download the information that’s what I did. Thanks for watching cheers
That TPI gear looks good would you recommend it
I would recommend it if you have a low budget and you are just starting off needing an analyser 👍🏻
Why have you tested hot water litres per minute and temp before doing the gas checks at the boiler ?
Why didnt you open two taps for working pressure?
perfect
If when doing service the inlet has more then mb- it could be because of pipe work or blockage but would you AR?
It’s all about if the safe operation of the appliances or other appliances are being effected and it could result in ID not just AR
Hi Derek like all your videos, I work on lpg on caravans and RPH I know that caravans holiday homes do not come under building regs but not sure about RPH, also have you done any videos on caravans
Cheers roy
Not done much on lpg but will be doing hopefully soon. Thanks for watching happy new year 👍🏻
Brilliant

You're the best!!!
great videos but ecv not correct should fall down in the closed position the one you have shown pushes up ??
Extreme Photography well spotted but we are a gas training and assessment centre and it’s installed that way so our trainees can find the faults. Did you spot any of the other faults?
Hi Derek, at 24mins in the video, the hot water temperature test failed right or is it ok? You only got a 30 degree rise (delta T) although you were testing at a flow rate of 10.5l/min which should have been at least 35 degree rise (delta T)
It’s ok it’s just tell you what it is doing to help you make a judgment on if the boiler it working correctly and you are happy with it
@@tomkatgastraining many thanks. Great video as usual. Very informative!!!!
Great ! When is part 2 coming Derek ?
Chris Ward tomorrow at 9am because it’s tomkat Wednesdays 😁 thanks for watching cheers
D Thompson. 👍
Hi Derek. How comes your working pressure at the meter is lower then inlet pressure at the appliance?
It wasn’t it was 21 at the meter and 20 at the boiler on hot water you might be looking at the heating inlet
@@tomkatgastraining My understanding was while checking inlet pressure HW an CH were operating at the same time. If it's separated then it makes sense. Thanks
@@valentynchyk it’s a combi so they are always separate
Great video Derek, only video I’ve seen on RUclips going in depth of commission procedure, so just to clarify.. I know we’re allowed 1mb drop fro. Meter to appliance on working pressures.. if the MIs state different .. eg.. WP at meter is 22mb and working pressure at boiler is 19mb.. obviously this is 3mb drop/loss.. I’d bee saying undersized gas pipe or restriction etc and would be saying investigate.. BUT if the MI state minimum inlet WP at boiler is 18mb.. would this be totally acceptable an override the 1mb drop/loss that I’ve been taught..
Only wanting to clarify this as I’ve seen boiler with the more than 1mb drop and I’ve explained to customers/landlords that issueS with pipe-sizing or blockages an needs investigating.. most landlord think I’m trying to have them on.. ..thanks again great fantastic video .. gone well into depth on the commissioning an very informative
Thanks
Tommy Blackman the I
1 mbar drop is between the meter and the test point at the inlet isolation valve. If you are testing at the gas valve you look at mi this is only for condescending boilers not other gas appliances. Hope that helps and thanks for watching cheers
Ok thank you, so what if boiler doesn’t have a test point outside the boiler? Just the test point on the gas valve inside the boiler... follow MI?? Sorry just I’m new to gas industry and get so many mixed messages regarding this 1mb drop etc.. I follow that rule but don’t want to tell customers that there’s a issue and there isn’t really a issue as they always say “well it’s been alright on the last 10 gas certs” by previous engineers
Tommy Blackman correct mate 👍🏻
Thank you well that’s cleared up a lot of things for me
👌🏼
👍👍
Hello sir from where I can buy this mug please. Can you please send me a link if possible
👍🏼
🙏😊
Marcin Masalski 👍
Tom can you make a video step by step on servicing a boiler. That's would be wonderful.
Alfy Pierri it’s Derek 😂 I am getting enough stick of engineers for this video but who cares any particular boiler ?
@@tomkatgastraining I'm sorry. Derek any boiler is fine. Wish you where closer I would of liked to do a boiler fault finding course with you.
CH 👍
Jon-Paul Ward 👍
Just spotted a slight error I think, 12.53mins in, you have a reading of 0.04, you said it passed (which is right) but then you said because we have (alloud) 0.025mbars, guessing you meant 0.25mbars (water gauges) and 0.2mbars electronic.
gbuk97 no you are allowed 0.25 for an electronic manometer if it is to 2 decimal points and that’s what I said, I think lol
chris Taylor
ECV fitted upside down
dean turner well spotted but remember it is in a training centre so top of the class for that one well done 👍🏻
