Watching from the U.S. I have always wanted to try food from all around the globe. It was a dream to travel the world for a taste of the food and the culture. Now, this is done via the computer. I live in Switzerland and I'm very lucky to have a Turkish supermarket 300 meters from where I live. I can buy a simit or two before I go to work or when I go back home.
When you threw simit to the seagulls on the ship, it reminded me of that song "İstanbul'da Olmak":) I lived in Istanbul in the 90s, when that song came out. Those were good times.
First time I tasted simit in Istanbul with Mr. Sakip Sabanci of Kordsa during 1987. we were passing through a street of zanjee kunwa ( chain of well ) a man was selling on footpath. He asked his driver to buy three simik and I really liked it. Wonderful Turkish bread like wonderful country.

I loved this video (and all you videos)! Not only do I learn a delicious Turkish recipe, but I also learn more about Turkish history. My husband is Turkish, and we live in Texas. His mom has been influential in teaching me Turkish cuisine, and I love following your channel to learn more - you, Bahar and all the crew make me smile and remind me so much of being around my Turkish family. One of my favorite memories is waking up in the morning to the sound of the street vendors selling fresh simit. 😋. My favorite way to eat it is with white cheese and a bit of sour cherry jam. I grew up in the southern part of the US and we love our jams! I will have to try making it myself when we are homesick for Turkey. Keep cooking and keep the videos coming! We love them! 😊

10 years ago, maybe a bit longer we did a thing called blind booking where you book a plane ticket not knowing your destination. My friends and i ended up in istanbul. This was so amazing and we ate a lot of simit there. Back home i went on the internet trying to find a recipe for simit and i couldn't find one. Then i forgot about it and now you reminded me of all that and i will make some simit today and sent my friends who went with me to istanbul a picture of them.
Simit. Just divine and one of the wonderful foods that remind me I am in Turkey. When flying home from Turkey, its a Simit and a Turkish tea at the airport as the last meal before come back to UK. I might have to make them but it won't be the same as eating simit in beautiful Turkey. Love your videos. I LOVE Simit! About 10 years ago I moved back home to the states from where I was living some few years in Hamburg. My old neighborhood had a beautiful Turkish grocery with a vegetable shop, a soft cheese and spreads counter, a butcher and fresh Turkish bread. EVERY weekend we had Simit for breakfast and many weekdays for lunch as well. Since we moved, we DREAM of Simit. I cannot wait to make Simit for my husband, because it's like one of his favorite foods. My last taste of Simit was two years ago when we visited Istanbul. We love the Turkish kitchen so much, and I really appreciate your videos!
This is such a dangerous recipe; I made the them using Burat's video and made the recipe for 4 days in a row! We're still addicted, but reserve it for the weekends. 😋 Bahar --they never make it to the freezer!!!! So delicious and addictive!

Refika you have done it again. I made these for our household and it was a huge huge hit I love how easy it was! This is texturally so unique, thank you for sharing! We are only two people so I was worried about the amount of carbs we would be forced to eat but Bahar’s tip to freeze them was genius. I just pop it in the air fryer when our meal calls for it & have it come out good as fresh. Thank you thank you thank you! Tip: if you don’t have oven bricks, I found that parchment paper under the simit + cast iron worked really well for me all the same! The parchment paper was just Bc I was worried about the molasses sticking to the cast iron & leaving a burnt aftertaste accumulatively.

Oh! You reminded me of how we used to get this simid back home in Lebanon (we call it kaak or asrieh which means evening in Arabic bc it was available mostly in the evening). We had it with cheese and olives and mortadella and other things. It was a real treat!
My Baba tried to recreate Simit in the US to no avail, and he would tell us with such passion about his memories of the scent of fresh Simit baking. May he enjoy heavenly Simit now.

Oh! You reminded me of how we used to get this simid back home in Lebanon (we call it kaak or asrieh which means evening in Arabic bc it was available mostly in the evening). We had it with cheese and olives and mortadella and other things. It was a real treat!
My Baba tried to recreate Simit in the US to no avail, and he would tell us with such passion about his memories of the scent of fresh Simit baking. May he enjoy heavenly Simit now.
