This was the first Mercedes I was ever in, my dad had one in a yellow/cream colour. I don’t know which engine it was though & unfortunately my dads passed away in February so I can’t ask him. Watching this brings back memories & a tear to my eye. Ironically I inherited his 2005 CLK convertible so I have a Mercedes again.

Sad to hear your dad has passed away, it's amazing the memories certain cars can bring back though. He must have had good taste in cars if he drove a stroke 8 😉 We might be able to identify what engine it had through old photos if you have any.

@@TheUntraveledPath Thank you 🙏 Yes he did have good taste in cars, he was a Merc man through & though. He was an entrepreneur & businessman & back in the 80s it was seen as a sign of success if you owned a Mercedes, he had quite a few over the years with his final one being the CLK. I will ask my mum if she has any photos of it 👍

Everything you said is right, except that they were accessible for the middle class ; a new W114 (even the 200) was expensive and affordable for a surgeon or a lawyer but not for a teacher or any simple employee, even in rich countries

Can’t quite Imagine that only Doctors or Lawyers could afford one. My Grandpa was a Bus Driver in Germany when they still were civil servants. He bought a new w115 200d back in the day. Saved up the whole amount in Cash. And he surely wasn‘t rich😅

It kills me that Mercedes must have had a board meeting and decided to intentionally made lesser quality cars!

Great content by the way. I had a 1976 200 petrol converted to 240d though it had the original petrol differential! I loved that car. My car gave it for scrap when I was away for my studies 😟

SELLING IT WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I MADE .
