    Hi Marc!! Thank you very much for this great product! I hope your testing of this goes smashingly awesome! I hope it is dripping with success. May it flow downhill for you.
    These filter systems are great to have. They keep your rigs system in great condition when you take on water from pressurized water sources. It would also be great to fill your water requirements when you are taking on water from a questionable source.
    Ughh...our house is 134 yrs old. Ouray is slightly older than that. As a general rule, there are many drinking water pipes in town that they don't know the location of. Additionally, there are breaches in that system; so they are leaking water out into the ground. Also, about 2 years ago, a state testing entity discovered "surface contamination" in our towns water source spring. So....aside from the potential contamination, I fully expect the town to experience more frequent water source failures. Hence....one of these systems would make one prepared in the event that our town water system went offline, or if we had to begin procuring water from remote sources.
    Safe travels!

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  2 года назад

      Love the puns, Alan! You really brought your A-game. And I can definitely see the usefulness in your situation. We already realize that the rig would have to be very close to the water source both in lateral and vertical distance to go directly into the fifth-wheel's water tank, so the alternative is to pump water into our 45-gallon pillow tank for transport and transfer.

      We love it! Just did our semi-annual filter element replacement, $49 for all three. We never had an issue all summer with foul smelling or tasting water, except for one time in South Carolina when I absent mindedly left half of the quick connect coupling on a campground pedestal in North Carolina. They're kind of an odd size, so Blu sent out a replacement at no charge. We connected to city water in South Carolina as we waited for the part, and it was light brown and smelled of sulfur. So I McGyvered a connection to the R3 filter unit with Home Depot parts while I waited on the correct part, and that water was fresh and clear once again.
      I took photos of the used filters next to the new ones. Figuring out how I want to publish those.

    I’m interested to see how this experiment evolves. I expect that you will need a pump and silt pre-filter to actually take water from a lake. The system will certainly expand beyond that neat little package.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  2 года назад

      From a lake no silt filter will be needed, Joseph, just a foam float for the end of the intake hose to keep it up off the bottom. We've already fabricated one. Whatever minor particles get sucked in from the surface of the lake will be addressed by the R3's sediment filter. If the rig is close enough we can use the on-board water pump to pump the water; otherwise we already have a small 12V portable water transfer pump that will do the job, whether putting it directly into the tank or into our 45-gallon pillow tank for transport.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  2 года назад

      We may well do that Kaivon, although that sort of comprehensive testing is somewhat costly -- roughly $200 per sample. From our experience with backpacking filters we know that 0.2 microns is effective at creating safe drinking water as giardia spores, etc. are all larger than that, so we expect similar results with any 0.2-micron filter.

    So does this make raw water drinkable? Or just a device for making already potable water, potable ?

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 месяцев назад

      The third-stage safety filter has a 0.2-micron pore size. So it can filter out giardia, e-coli, and other pathogens larger than 0.2 microns across. That's the same pore size as, say, MSR backpacking water filters. So yes, it can take untreated groundwater and make it safely drinkable. In addition, the first two filters remove large sediment and help to remove bad taste, respectively.

    We are using Clearsource how much better is this unit?

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  2 года назад

      Don, in fact some of the folks at nodirtywater actually came from ClearSource. The most appropriate comparison to the R3 from ClearSource would be their $500 "Ultra" system. Differences that I immediately see:
      1. The R3 uses stainless steel filter housings for 5" filters, whereas the ClearSource uses plastic housings for 10" filters;
      2. The R3 is considerably smaller and weighs less than half of what the ClearSource weighs. The ClearSource would be too big to fit in our wet bay; and
      3. While the R3 costs $25 more for the system, the ClearSource replacement cartridges cost $20 more.
      Other than that, the best we can tell the systems have nearly identical functionality.
