Testing 3 RV Water Filters - Who Can Remove Virus and Rust??

  • We’ve done a few videos on ClearSource water filters, but this time, we did things a bit differently. This time around, we demonstrate how the VirusGaurd™ filter from ClearSource filters out harmful virus’s.
    We start with placing ink in a jug of water, as ink is the same microscopic level as virus’s. The ink water is then passed through several different water filtration systems ....... “ClearSource”, “Camco” and “RV Water Filter Store”.
    But we didn't stop there! We shift over to testing the filtration systems for rust. This one is fun to watch and CLEARLY you can see the the strongest choice in each of these tests.
    Anyone care for a glass of ink water? How about a glass of rust water?
    We’ll…I do, but only after it’s been filtered of course. 😎

    If you're handy, you can make your own housing with any big box 2.5" x 10" filter canister for about $100. Then order the Clearsource Ultra replacement filter pack for $70. Budget another $30 if you want to use PEX to integrated it vs using hoses. Recommend using 3/4" between the filters to improve flow. An Inline mesh screen water filter ($15) at the spigot will catch the big chunks before your filters and pressure regulator.

    Am I missing something? Comparing triple canister system to dual systems? I know that the RV Water Filter Store has triple systems too.

    • @tannerjim

      Showing you the difference between them. Rust should be captured by first filter, the 3rd filter captures virus. Point is, if you don't do your research, you're probably not getting clean/safe water. I guess you could risk (hope?) one of their 3 canister solution will do better, but I wouldn't.

      No, you are right, he is comparing apples to oranges here. A true comparison would have been to compare the RVWFS's Virus Hero series to the Clearsource Ultra or used the Clearsource Premier to keep things fair. Otherwise the comparison is just 2 vs 3 filters or whether is is worth adding a virus filter. I spoke to both companies and the main difference is RVWFS uses brass and are a little less stylish so a bit cheaper vs the Clearsource that uses stainless steel fittings/hardware.

      I think 2 vs 3 filters is bit unfair but virus are 20-400 nanometer. Close to the size of water molecules. I think the scrubbing effect may remove virus but you have to show ink ions are like virus so the scrubbing effectiveness properties are plausible. Otherwise the your test is smoke and mirrors. Iron inks make your test prove clear source iron removal is superior as both 2 stage filter’s failed!! I think best virus killer is UV treatment. It would be nice to compare the blu 3 stage system as well more compact and lighter.

    For a proper test you would have to flush the lines between tests
    And why would anyone be afraid to drink water with food coloring in it

      Yea, it might have been better to flush the lines, however all 3 filters were using the same process. And it was not food coloring, it was ink (and rust).

    • @tannerjim
      @tannerjim  2 года назад

      You would not need the RV water pump with this filter. This is meant to be used with pressurized water coming into the filter. My other video explains the Clearsource Nomad that has a pump built in that can pull water into and out of the filters into your RV

    yeah, it's a PRESSURE pump. the pump should have been BEFORE the filters. I know that you want to filter the water going into the pump, but you need a different filter for that. these types of filters need PRESSURE to filter, doing it your way is incorrect.

    • @tannerjim
      @tannerjim  9 месяцев назад +1

      My test is the same way it works when you use your RV water tank. There is no pressure behind that. the water is drawn up out of the tank via the pump. The same way I did this test. Imagine the glass jar is the RV water tank.

    • @sNEAKYnIGHTmUPPET
      @sNEAKYnIGHTmUPPET 9 месяцев назад

      @@tannerjim yeah obviously I can imagine the tank is before the pump. What I am saying is that the filters should be AFTER the pump, not before.

    • @leighsheppard8614

      @sNEAKYnIGHTMUPPET - Regardless of the location of the pump vs the water source, all three filtration systems were set up in identical fashion. The Camco system failed miserably in the "flow rate" test compared with the other two. The clear winner in all 3 tests Jim performed was the clearsource system. I've always had my suspicions about using Camco filters, as the reality is, my tap water at some resorts truly tasted awful, even after filtering. Now I know why. In my mind taste is king. If my filtered water tastes terrible, what else is my filter letting through?

    • @sNEAKYnIGHTmUPPET
      @sNEAKYnIGHTmUPPET 8 месяцев назад

      @@leighsheppard8614 Agreed. I was pointing out that the pump and those filters were being tested incorrectly so that you could improve your testing. doing it incorrectly means people like me doubt the outcome due to inccert process. If your testing is without question, then the results are held in higher regard. That is to say that If I can't question your tests, then I equally can't question your results.
      I seriously hope you get my point.
      One final point. testing of things like leaking etc will not arise under negative pressure like in your setup. Leaking is a serious problem in cheap filters and your testing if done properly would have highlighted that potential problem also.
      Thanks for the reply.

    I can’t help but notice that at no point in this video can we see the hose coming out of the 3 stage filter system going into the pump to elaborate the water coming out of the 3 stage filter could be going anywhere ie under the table & the water coming into the the jar vier the pump could be coming from anywhere
    Not to mention 2 X 2 stage filters vs a 3 stage🤨🤔

    • @tannerjim
      @tannerjim  Год назад +1

      Watch again...you can SEE the water coming out of the hose has rust/ink in the first part of the cycle, then the water clears up once it cycles through the filters. You can think what you like, but the tests are valid and no hidden hoses were used. IT's sad, that your mind goes to a negative place, when in fact I am simply doing a filtration comparison. Watch my other videos...do you think those are also fake?

    • @camustang1966

      When I watch a video from a regular person trying to show me (us) how something works, I am typically assuming that the person is NOT sandbagging the test for some nefarious purpose. This is not a double blind, high-tech scientific test for a multi-billion dollar defense contract. It is a RUclips content creator who took the time to set-up a pretty decent water filtration test to help fellow RV'ers decide which water filtration system was right for them. I'm more than fine with the way he conducted the tests.
      That being said, I might've emptied the jug with the left over remnants of the previous filter's test instead of saying to "just disregard" it, but not a giant deal.
      Also, it would be great to see several other systems tested, like the in-line Camco filter, and the Clear2O filter system (the green ones). I realize you are a small channel, and this can get to be expensive, but just a suggestion.
      Thank you, and well done!

      What makes you say that? The fact that a couple of these high-end and relatively expensive to maintain filters couldn't filter out rust particles or viruses is very telling. It is the least a water filter should be able to do.
