    I have followed your content for years . When i need answers about the newest tv this or that you are the go to guy . All tvs seem to be trying to catch up to the oled tech . I believe the lcd advancements have reached the maximum as far as it can go . Oled still has some wiggle room with brightness and then it will be capped off as well . I finally bought my first oled its the 77 inch lg c3 i,ve never seen such a beautiful tv picture as long as the content is there the upscale is pretty good you have to give the unit something to work with . I ,ve had my oled for a month every now and again i go on youtube and run those oled test 4k documentaries just to see what this space ship can do . Nothing can compare and thank you for all your info on tv tech ................

    I LOVE this series. Thank you for doing it. On the topic of external streamers to internal tv apps, I've really enjoyed the external options once my panel no longer receives support. I am still enjoying my 65in LG E6. The panel still looks great, I enjoyed watching Avatar 2 in 3d at home (haha), but the support of the onboard apps are long gone at this point. I like the idea of buying the latest apple TV, Roku Ultra, or shield to "keep my os up to date" whole still enjoying a viable panel. I also have employed a HD Fury from arcana to guve me a split earc and enjoy lossless Atmos with my sould system. The idea that we can extend the viability of these panel beyond their supported schedules is just great!

    So I am fortunate enough to have both an OLED (LG C4 just got it) and a MiniLED (Sony X95L) TV in my house. I also use reference monitors for CG in my office. So my first thing is if you cannot control ambient light in the room go MiniLED. Even If you can control the light in the room The higher peak brightness of miniLED can really make the image pop in ways OLED can't. I don't feel like one is really better than the other but more that they both have drawbacks. OLED gets you deep blacks and Less blooming since you will always have some blooming due to the optics of your eyes. But you might get black crush and you aren't going to get the brightness of the MiniLED. MiniLED can have trouble with blooming but it is less susceptible to black crush and has a much higher peak brightness. For most people, I honestly think MiniLED is the way to go. Almost all the mastering is done using LCD. OLED reference monitors are really new not to mention they are kind of small and and really dim.

      @@KB-kd9pt The point is, watching a movie in sunlight is never a natural situation but an odd one. If you're talking about casual TV watching during daytime with lots of sunlight,Full array or mini led wins in that condition.
      If you're planning to buy a TV for majorly watching movies, and want a sharper picture, go for OLED. But you need to watch the movie s during evening or night time in a well lit room, no issues. If you want to watch movies during daytime, you need some blinds/ curtains to control the light.

      I got S95C and X95L, contrary to what the main poster said, the QD-OLED is far superior in PQ and no issues with lack of brightness. I won't try to justify my purchase of mini led and I think it's bit hyped. I feel it'd equally do, if I purchased full array led X90L (much cheaper).

    Love these 'you asked' vids, thanks for the hotel drop Caleb! As for the OLED vs. LED debate, I'm just a sucker for the blacks in a movie dipping to the point that it matches the letterbox.
    I was watching BR2049 over the weekend and that spinner chase over the Pacific ocean is such a masterwork of black levels. OLED's provide the closest thing to my long lost love of those Pioneer Plasma's from back in the day.

    I have lg oled right now. It pretty old now, but its still great for movies i watch. But my next tv could be miniLed from Hisense or TCL from 2 main reasons. 1. Size - i want something in 98-100 inches. 2. Brightness - i often watch movies in daylight and 3500 - 5000 lumens peak brightness would elevate my watching experience in that environment.

    My Sony A80K streaming apps looked better than any streaming box I took home, Apple4K-Ruko's best unit. Same trying cable-cutting RUclips /Fubo, My Verizon FIOS cable box looks better and has more consistent picture quality and sound. While costing less.
    My question is when I watch these types of reviews and they show how one OLED or what ever is brighter than the other and I can see it on my Sony A80K which means my TV can reproduce that brightness level. if so I would not be able to see it on my Sony. right? Love the channel.
    All TVs will look as good as lighting conditions and like all my past TVs they look better with lower nighttime lighting.

    I think when we’re comparing MiniLED vs OLED it’s important to also bring overall value into the conversation. I recently picked up a 65” TCL QM8, and I’ve come to enjoy watching movies on it way way more than my LG CX 77”. The peak brightness on QM8 just really makes HDR content have that “wow” factor. Obviously OLED has come a long way since the CX, but I don’t think I could justify the price difference if I was in the market for another TV at this point. I’m nearly completely satisfied with the QM8. (I got my QM8 for around $700)

    Seen a U8K and C3 in a 'normal' living room setting, haven't seen a U8N. That said, even with brightness taken into account, there's no contest - the C3 wins hands down; just has the wow factor. The U8K is great, but there's levels to the game here.
    At the same price point, unless your TV is set up facing directly into the sun for some reason, you'd go with the C3, unless the U8N is a dramatic upgrade.

      I'd have to see for myself. The U8k can do everything according to Rtings at a high level. While you get an overall better picture with a C3. You don't have to worry about stutter or brightness levels as much with that LCD. Then if you want to buy a 77 or 85 inch tv you'll save thousands by getting the hisense. Unless the image is really overrated the hisense appears to be a better value.

    The whole which is better internal apps or AppleTV 4K as an example. That actually depends there has been situations where the DV looked better on internal apps.
    This is the whole "Player led vs TV led" HDR/DV. With AppleTV it might do the processing and the TV isn't as involved as much. The really important part would be for example Sony XR Clear. Does it work on anything. Meaning anything connected via HDMI or only on internal apps? If it only works on internal apps then it would be better to use them when streaming since you get the extra upscaling and cleaning of low bit rate content. Even 4K streams.
    I wish someone actually made a proper comparison. Side by side.

    I feel like Hisense lost it’s way, they were supposed to be the budget choice.
    At $1500 they’re no contest to C3 or Samsung S90C
    If you want LED instead of OLED just get the Sony x93L that is at the same price; some would say Hisense is better for gaming as it supports Dolby Vision gaming and stuff, but being real their implementation of VRR is very buggy so I believe most folks would be ok with a proper HDR10 VRR implementation than a glitchy all rounder

    Caleb: I need help and can't find an answer to this anywhere. I have a Samsung QN90B tv and a Samsung 750B soundbar/rear speaker set up. The soundbar supports DTS, the TV does not. When I have it all hooked up through e-Arc I was told that no DTS signal will pass through the tv and I won't get any audio but I do get audio and it sounds pretty damn good. The soundbar though does not show DTS it shows multichannel pcm. So my question is: what sound am I getting? Is it the DTS sound? Or is it downgraded. If it is the DTS encoded sound with no downgrades will it be the same for a DTS X encoded track? Or am I losing quality by listing (well watching a blu ray more so than listening) this way?
    I hope you answer. Love your reviews and videos

    In my search I see 65" 4K sets from known manufacturers under $400, How bad are they? Have you tested at this price point? Are these sets good value? I find this interesting. Thanks for your time.

      I wouldn't suggest buying a 4K 65" TV for only $400. You would have to settle for a junk brand that won't look that good and won't last that long. If you have $1,000 to spend I'd definitely use the whole budget. Or even better, keep the plasma for a little while longer and save up more to get even better. Personally I'd go for a smaller size before I'd go for a low quality brand or lower end model.

    A consideration when choosing an external streamer vs the TV's built-in streaming app is, does the built-in app support all the channels you watch? For instance in the case of LG TVs: ESPN, PBS Passport, Criterion Channel & many other important channels are not supported. An advantage of a built-in app is, it frees up an HDMI port & the TV's remote is used during app navigation (one less remote!).

      Yeah but you can get that image in the cheapest tv if you calibrate it. Why get a top of the line tv to get a flat two-dimensional lifeless image? There’s going to be no comparison between the filmmaker mode and the best-looking image an A95L can produce.

    • @Sas-wk9lj
      @Sas-wk9lj 19 дней назад +1

    • @techsamurai11
      @techsamurai11 18 дней назад

      @@Sas-wk9lj point me to a video where Filmmaker mode looks better than Standard in Warm 1-2 (ideally 1.5). Quantum TV has 1,000 videos showing how bad Filmmaker mode is. I changed my TV to cinema mode in Succession and the picture literally died - there's no other way to explain it. My TV would have looked like a TV from the 80s.
      I can't even take Live Color off my Sony - it never looks better without it. I know it's not accurate but it looks better so it stays on. It's not like it picks an orange instead of blue, it picks a more vibrant color.
      And I've watched everything on that TV from Rififi to the Hitchcock Anthology, to every John Ford Movie to a 1,000 series. And of course gaming isn't gaming without the TV in proper settings with Reality Creation on. In fact, Reality Creation is easily the #1 gaming TV feature of all time surpassing HDMI 2.1 by a mile.

    • @Sas-wk9lj
      @Sas-wk9lj 18 дней назад

      @@techsamurai11 I'm sorry to hear you get ugly looking PQ when turned to filmmaker mode. I am coming from Samsung S95C perspective and believe me or not, I used to do a lot of tweaking to see which mode I should settle on until I found filmmaker mode to be working best especially for SDR movies.
      However, I own Sony X95L too and I got it set at Dolby vision mode with reality creation turned on at 80% and live colour medium. I agree, without live colour on, the PQ is awful and reality creation manual setting is must for a sharper grainy picture ( for upscaled videos). When playing DV content, I don't touch the settings as it looks natively good with auto selection of 'Dolby Vision Bright'.
      One thing that dramatically changes the literally bad/dull PQ to great is to set the Ambient Optimisation Pro/Ambient Light Sensor setting to 'off'.
      Rififi is a great old movie (in b/w), I too watch some great oldies like 12 Angry Men, Hitchcock short TV series, Twilight Zone...

For $25-$40 they're fine but I am interested in trying Apple TV box, if it was compatible with all popular audio formats. There really is no good reason for it not to be. For $100-$150, audio codecs shouldn't be an issue.

    The Bravia will be brighter and better for daytime and well lit environments, while the oled will be more accurate and better for darker rooms and movie watching. Also, oled quick response makes more sense for gaming. I think that oled can already get bright enough, or will be there eventually. Why bother with anything else?
    Streaming quality depends on codec and bitrate. Generally I don't think internet streaming will be better than a bluray anytime soon.

    Would love a Shield vs ATV comparison! One example of internal streaming apps giving [slightly] better PQ than an external device would be in the case of Sony TV’s from 2020 and earlier. Sony TVs for 2020 and earlier did not have “TV-led Dolby Vision” capability. They only have “player-led Dolby Vision”. TV-led DV is supposedly better for PQ. (One exception to the Sony 2020 lineup was the X900 H which received TV-led DV via a firmware update, but that set had other issues, like no smooth gradation setting.) so if you have a 2020 or earlier premium Sony set Dolby Vision content may look slightly better when using the internal apps, although most people wouldn’t notice unless you had two sets side-by-side.
