There are many beautiful chateaus, but yours is surrounded by the most beautiful property and, it seems, not near to any noisy highways. I love that you give so much time to your beautiful grounds and gardens. They truly are just as important to the beauty of your property as the chateau itself.
The dogs are just living the life, prancing around as you both work so hard. And the cats watch intently from a distance. The garden is going to be beautiful.
You may want to create a well around the fig tree to guide water to it, with the alyssum planted just around that rim. Second, pull the soil away from the bark at the base - this might cause new roots to string up above its existing roots.
Amanda and Lincoln, your chateau and garden are glorious, especilly in spring. Lucky you, but it's also a joy for us to watch how you are developing the walled garden - and retaining your sense of humour during the process. Well done, and keep going please.
You will LOVE the black lace elderberry. I grow it here in Virginia zone 7b and it is a ridiculously easy plant. You can prune it into any shape you want each season but save some of the cuttings because it roots almost as easily as willow. I just plunk a few in the ground and see what happens! The flowers appear pink at first but will grow and spread into large plate-shaped clusters of mostly white flowers. Really hardy and versatile. Loved this episode! Didn’t want it to end!
Love the dogs continual support & encouragement. I can only presume the cats aren’t into gardening or waiting for you to finish before inspecting & signing off on your labours!☺️
The fig tree, the lavender, the alyssum are beautiful. Hard work , well done you two. I love how Enzo stays with you, such a sweet and loyal pup. Love your videos, the garden is looking great ! Can’t wait to see the beams!
I really like the bracelet ! My son used to bring me various nature made finds, when he was little, we would stick them all in this cool & huge twig wreath. It was really unique and displayed all his finds. He's 33 now and still an outdoor guy. Created a hiking group that is growing and growing, they go every Sunday, all over our area. Sincerely in San Diego California
The walled garden is developing into a beautiful space. The two of you have great vision for each space you develop on your property. I love watching your videos each week. Thank you for letting all of us be part of your journey.
That’s it, it’s official! You are now the ONLY château folks that I follow on youtube. I unsubscribed from all the rest. I just love your pacing, your content, your vibe. Nothing else compares. Your garden is looking fabulous. Love Enzo the foreman :) he did a good job supervising you both. Greetings from 🇨🇦
I just wish some viewers who want to see frugal real life builds can also watch places like ours that are NOT chateaus too. Love the hard work of Lincoln
Such a great video Amanda! You and Lincoln are working so hard on that garden and it's really paying off. I love how Enzo stays with you and practically adores you while you're working!❤
Ah, so glad to see lavender! We planted a 'hedge' of 14 culinary plants, alternating a darker and lighter variety, and it gives such a huge harvest - more than we can ever shortbread or London Fog our way through in a year. There is nothing more relaxing, pleasant and anxiety-calming (yeah, me too) than spending a few hours pulling buds off and having that scent all around and on my hands. (While eating lavender shortbreads and sipping on a London Fog, of course.) Those plants and the fig tree may make that the most scrumptious bed in your garden.
You are so fortunate to have a walled garden to keep the deer out. Petunias would be eaten immediately in my garden. The herd of mule deer ate my little lilac bush and my geraniums that I thought they did not like. Your garden is beautiful! How cool that you can use trees from your property to rebuild the floor of the cottage! Your blogs are always a treat!
You have really chosen such a lovely property to call home. I know it’s a lot of work, but you are creating such a paradise! Your garden is turning into a wee bit of Versailles! 😁🇨🇦
With the additional beds in the garden, the space is so much better defined. I just love it. That fig with the box wood? The petunias and allysm was so well planted and made great companions with each other. Can't wait for a couple of months to see it again! Please do a retake of the garden in a couple of months. It is always a real treat. Love the content you have, the humor, and the editing.
I am thrilled to see you did a little geometric design in your garden, on axis with one of your buildings. May I suggest you buy 2 of the espaliers you saw, plant them to either side of the center of that building, then someday find a wall foundation to put in the middle with a wonderful bench in front of it? Second, please buy your flooring from or have it milled at your local sawmill, like the beams. How absolutely fabulous, the gift of the wood and the price!! I know you have trees somewhere that you can mill up. That's what all those buildings were made of - carry on the tradition! Love, Your Architect.
Hello from Canada 🇨🇦 I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. I’m here for your sense of humour. Your videos show not only the renovations and antique shopping, but you take us long everywhere you go and that’s what I enjoy the most, seeing your life in France. The garden looks amazing. I’m a little bit jealous, I wish I could have a fig tree. I understand about the rain, I’ve been wanting to get out to my garden but it’s been raining for three days. Thank you for another great video.
I agree. The sense of humor is awesome. Love that this is your home. I would want that for myself were I to buy a chateau! (Not likely to happen, I have no food, building or money! )So I will live the dream through you !
You always have such wonderful choices in music. I loved the visual effects where they're digging the lines and the sped-up video makes them look like they're sliding sideways. I've never seen that, a very fun effect. That's an amazing nursery, and what prices you showed were great. I like having the green fig trees because I've found that birds are less likely to eat them as they tend to wait for them to turn colour and then eat every one. Plus, green figs are delicious. You've done a LOT on your garden just recently, too!
Hello from Texas, I'm so blown away that plant prices are so affordable compared to here. That fig tree would be around $80.00 easily. And your lavender is around $25- $30. Great Job on everything! Of course it helps to have an agreeable husband.
Good Morning from Ottawa Canada While l am sipping on my tea and watching to see what you two are up to .Love the wall garden .l find the both of you so relaxing to watch. 👍🏿👍🏿
You are my therapy Amanda. You two are hilarious plus it's very therapeutic to watch you work I know you're working hard too. You're garden is looking great. Can't wait to see it grow. I'm with Lincoln....started my week with 12 pk S. Pelligrino and a big bottle Shiraz. Gross on the wasp eggs in figs. Is it true?
I love my fig trees. I have to haul them in every winter because of Canadian winters ☹️ but the figs with goat cheese and balsamic drizzle are amazing and worth the back strain. 😊
Your walled garden project is massive and kudo's to you for getting someone in to devote that time to it, after all, by the size of the garden shops you visit, you need full days just to choose your next garden plants
Hello from west central Indiana!! I have recently discovered your channel and am totally addicted. I'm pretty sure I watched every episode in less than 2 weeks so I'm all caught up. The work you have completed on the chateau is amazing especially since its basically just the two of you doing the work. My husband and I renovated a 3 bedroom cottage that was built around 1875 with very little outside help in the early 1990's so I know how hard you both are working. Your kitties are precious (especially Pickel) and the pups are so sweet, but the donkeys - I'm in love!! The walled garden is looking spectacular with the new beds and the centerpiece Fig tree. I can't wait to see how the cottage turns out!
OMG you are both energizer bunnies 😂 The projects are never ending! I love how you’re designing the garden. Even though your working hard your living the good life in my opinion. Nature is beautiful ❤️❤️
I am really enjoying your channel. You both look so real gardening, dirty clothes and muddy boots. Have always had lots of helpers, dog and cats out in the garden too. So much work. Had no idea it rained so much in France. Hello from rainy west coast of Canada
Loving the.garden videos, yet all that rain, and still working hard. Spring is such a great time. I am looking forward to the cottage renovation. Thank you for sharing with us.
I have been gardening for 30 years and I never add wood to fill up space instead of soil as ants and wood bugs love this and can eat your plants. Your potoger looks beautiful. Well done.
Hi Amanda & Lincoln, garden is looking great, it's good you guys got help expanding your garden beds. That's wonderful news about the beams for your cottage project. Love going to the Nursery as well as seeing the flooring that's available in France. Oh and I love Lincoln's way of starting the weekend...beer and plants, hope you guys enjoyed!👍It's nice to hear so many more people talking about help for mental health, we all need some support. Thank you so much for sharing, take really good care. Have a wonderful rest of the week. Lots of love Kathy x 💖🌸🌺🌷
I can't imagine how much work it is to do all you do - and then share these videos with us. You are both amazing and inspiring! I just love the footage of your garden taking shape. Thank you for sharing.
I have learned the hard way that if you have pets that shed lighter floors are the way to go dark floors are beautiful but show absolutely everything. Lighter floors would also add a brighter and more cheerful environment. You are doing so much. Take care of your backs at all cost and they will take care of you. You are both amazing. I admire you very much. ❤
Oh my goodness, y'all are two hard working people. Everything is is looking so beautiful ❤️ If I'm ever in the area I would gladly bring wine , bread and cheese for a tour of this wonderful property. Lol , I live in GA , USA .
The two of you work so hard and are not even thwarted by the relentless rain that seems never ending in France this year! The garden is looking amazing and I can't wait to the fruits of your labour in the summer. Bravo! And I hope Lincoln drank everyone of those beer or maybe you shared them. Whatever you so deserved them!!! Cheers
The walled garden is beginning to show all the very hard work you have put into it. It’s beautiful and I love the layout of the beds. You have enough room to grow all you need plus supply your local village. Amazing.
I love how your garden is shaping up. I know that feeling of being overwhelmed by how much there is to do, take a deep breath and remember to concentrate on what you have achieved as you press forward ❤
Really liking your vegetable beds. And they looked amazing with the two strokes of paint on them!!! Your fig tree was a good choice and will provide you with fruit for many years 🎉
Your garden is beautiful!!! You will love home grown figs! The fig wasp is very small and they don’t sting, but you will find the big stinging ones eating on the ripe fruit. So just pick your figs when they ripen and you shouldn’t have a problem 😘 We have a Brown Turkey fig I got from my daddy’s plant. We trim it back every few years so we can reach its fruit. Its fruit is size of the palm of your hand. 😮
The garden is beautiful! If mine turns out 1/4 of what yours will look like I'll be happy! I love a good fig tree too! What a great nursery you found! Thanks for sharing all your adventures with us!❤
That garden centre! How did you only buy a car full😆 Love Enzo supervising your garden work and him and Guava wrestling in the background. Happy pups for sure. Your garden will be magical this summer.
Just having my morning coffee here in Ontario with a new video - what a treat to go along to the garden store! Love that you chose a fig - perhaps there is fig jam in your future? Your videos give me courage as I make plans to spend rest of my retirement in France! And thanks for the gorgeous photography of your big sky!
That is going to be one gorgeous garden. Nicely done you guys! Enzo sure keeps a watchful eye on you two..what a good boy. Have a good week and cheers!
It's a really big job what you did. I didn't notice what type of fig you planted, but when I was researching I did a deep dive to see which was most flavorful. I found it was these three. 1. Panache or Tiger it is a striped fig with raspberry flesh that is so good. 2. Violete de Bordeux fig which has a purplish exterior and a raspberry interior and it very flavorful. 3. Condria fig these have a green exterior and a light red interior. This taste more like a mission fig, but much better. However this is more an orchard tree which isn't very pretty to look at like the first two. It might be worth finding one of these varieties and replacing yours. That is unless you already know your tree is exactly what you want.
Lincoln is like the Terminator. He never stops. 80 euros for the milling of the logs sounds like a good deal and a good reuse for them. Love the fig tree in the center of the garden. The whole thing is coming around nicely. Can’t wait to see the garden and the fig tree when they mature. Fig wasps. Learn something every day. Thank you for another very enjoyable vlog!
Hi Amanda and Lincoln! I just wanted to pop in and say hello. We have purchased a small castle south of Tours. I enjoy watching you thoroughly-I’ve laughed out loud many times-thanks for that! Want to get you connected with some of our Chateau friends-don’t be a stranger! Bonnie
I love your choice of the fig tree for the center! I have a turkey fig and make tons of fig jam and we dehydrate the figs for a tasty treat❤ your tree bracelet would have been perfect when one of my daughters was a woodland fairy for a fairy and gnome festival we went too
Remember that a wonderful and productive as veggie gardens are they need an incredible amount of constant attention. Don’t set up too many beds if you cannot commit to them. Planing fruit trees also need time and attention - they are too are a lot of work. I am not dying to put you off doing a wonderful activity. As gorgeous and fruitful as a fig tree is: you will have to manage what to do with the fruit - unless you let the birds eat them which they will regardless of how hard you try to cover them. I love to garden too and they are an incredible amount of work which I like. Do a little everyday to keep on top of it as you have created a lot of beds. Don’t add anymore beds unless you can manage them. Just my sage advice. Fig trees also have a massive root system. Careful that you can plant vegetables close by. Good luck and I will be watching to see how you go. The cottage is coming along great. You are going to creating a gorgeous building. Enjoy the good weather coming your way. I will hibernate in the Melbourne winter and watch you getting on with it! Enjoy Vicki
What a great milestone to pass. The walled garden beds have fully formed with a pear as the cherry on top. And in my dreams I have a chateau plein de chats : ) This is my absolute, can't miss, favorite channel.
There are many beautiful chateaus, but yours is surrounded by the most beautiful property and, it seems, not near to any noisy highways. I love that you give so much time to your beautiful grounds and gardens. They truly are just as important to the beauty of your property as the chateau itself.
One of the things I love about your channel is that we never know what you will be up to, it’s always a surprise! Great photography!
Glad you enjoy it!
It finally hit me how you guys are funding the cottage restoration project...clearly, Lincoln is a model for the front cover of romance novels.
The dogs are just living the life, prancing around as you both work so hard. And the cats watch intently from a distance. The garden is going to be beautiful.
The new fig bed is beautiful. In fact, the entire garden is looking great. I learned important information today about fig pollination. 😮🦟🌳
The family with a cat in every window will have a beautiful walled garden. So perfect. Thank you. ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉😊
I love how the kitties keep a watchful eye on you all!❤

There’s just No giving up for Lincoln! He’s so clearly focused.. in the rain. 🌧️ 😂 So much going on you two! 👍

I’m really enjoying your planting boxes in the walled garden. I’m envious you’ll have some much space to plant lots of things.

Love the fig tree in the center of the garden. The whole thing is coming around nicely. Can’t wait to see the garden and the fig tree when they mature. Fig wasps. Learn something every day.
Thank you for another very enjoyable vlog!
Your garden beds look lovely, well done 👍
Hi Amanda and Lincoln! I just wanted to pop in and say hello. We have purchased a small castle south of Tours. I enjoy watching you thoroughly-I’ve laughed out loud many times-thanks for that! Want to get you connected with some of our Chateau friends-don’t be a stranger! Bonnie
Wow! sounds exciting ... Bonne chance!
I hope you will post in the comments if you start a vlog. The more the merrier!
Hi, the trip to the garden centre and the last aerial shots, what a treat!❤ We've had lots of rain too here in London, everything is burgeoning 🌳🌳🌳
The veg garden is looking great, really taking shape . 😊
Enjoy Vicki
Beautiful! You are one of the few French channels I watch. Love ur American sarcasm. Aloha from Hawaii
What a great milestone to pass. The walled garden beds have fully formed with a pear as the cherry on top. And in my dreams I have a chateau plein de chats : ) This is my absolute, can't miss, favorite channel.
You need those rain suits the fishermen in Cape Cod and Maine wear. Wow. Wet! Love the plants, the window kitties, the donks, and doggies.
I know! 🦞
