Thanks for the video, my wife’s car had a rough idle, I did this cleaning and also changed the spark plugs, we noticed the difference so far.
Nice job! Clean the throttle also that should do much better I have lotta throttle videos
This video helped me!
2009 Civic 80k miles. My idle was really low, the only thing keeping it above 600 was running the A/C, otherwise RPM dipped at idle like half of the time and got rough fluctuating up and down, pulsing power at 500 RPM. So I had a stall and a few rough starts, changed spark plugs (probably time for that, but they were ok), checked for air leaks, cleaned MAF sensor, changed air filter. Coolant was fine. Oil was fresh. No codes. Did idle reset like three times. Still same problem. Couldn't figure it out so I started trying to find other possible problems, got to exhaust issues, didn't want to change the O2 sensors 'cause they're expensive, so I tried this and it's holding steady at 700-750 now, dips to 650 with lights A/C but 600 RPM was the problem zone.
One little valve...
Thanks for your video!
Nice great job!!! and good information for others!!
Going to try this. Been having the same issue. Thanks for sharing!
Also, do you have a video i can use to reset my idle? never done that before...
@@GGdevelopment you need high end scan tool to adjust idle on Honda’s other wise it will do it self
I have the same problem with my 2015 Civic I try everything including new O2 sensors, I am going to try to clean the EGR valve hope that will take care of the rough idle in the morning and rpm fluctuating. thanks for the tip.
Thank you for a great video! Explaining every step clearly, Saving me money, I am so glad to have my civic running again, could not have fixed it without you!!!!
Glad it helped!
i like the information and videos and I have quick question.. I been chasing misfire cyl 3 then a cyl 2 not say same time maybe a cycle later then 300.. can this egr valve just be dirty and not throwing code? I also have to have pcm flashed for recall.. idk if that will stop the issue.. i replaced plugs but not with iridium with platinum. fuel injector as well but only 1 because it seems like its flooded idk if its hydro locked but can this cause hard starts and rough starts… now thats 2 questions and I have 06 accord 2.4
This fixed my problem in my 2015 Civic. Thank you for sharing!!
Nice good job!!!
What problem dod u have
Awesome vid. I changed the ignition coils and spark plugs (Civic 2008-200K miles) but car has a bit of a rough idle. I’ll clean this EGR valve tonight. Thanks for the vid.
Ok also clean the throttle would help
Thank you so much for this video!!!
Absolutely amazing just did this for my 230k mileage 08 Civic and it the difference is night and day

Great video guide RB Mechanic :)! My Civic has 130k miles and have never cleaned the EGR Valve.
Give it a crank
Update: just gave the EGR Valve a good clean and also replaced my spark plugs too. Almost overtightened those Nuts holding the EGR Valve OMG! Hope I didn't mess up the Metal Gasket lol

Thanks RB. I have a 2010 Ridgeline. The check engine light comes on after towing my boat or camper more than 4 hours. No issues before that. Sometimes, the light goes off if I stop to refuel. The vehicle sits overnight. No light ever comes on when not towing.
Scan the car for codes to figure out what the issue is
Update on cleaning my 2015 Civic EGR valve did the job now my rpm is nice and smooth, thanks for your video. Hello from Vancouver Canada.
Nice job!!!
Thanks for the nice video
Welcome
Tq so musch.
Very nice video bro
Yes thank you!!
good shyt boss thanks
thank you. excellent information. instead of blowing into the pipe, would it be better to vacuum too remove them debris? also your used a break cleaner, doesn’t that dry out there rubber?
Yeah I can suck it out
I have a 2015 civic, I cleaned the MAF SENSOR, EGR valve and after putting everything back I now noticed when it’s idling there’s definitely a vibration, mostly felt at the floor, near the pedals. I also noticed that during the day it idles around 600Rpm, but at night it jumps to 700rpms, and the vibration goes away.
Yes that’s low idle will cause vibration try cleaning the throttle
@@RBTheMechanic I already did, still does it
@@EndlesSuffering do idle relearn or adjust with scan tool
@@RBTheMechanic seems to me that anywhere between 600-800 rpm, so it’s most likely a engine mount
@@EndlesSuffering it could be engine mounts but it defiantly will shake if it’s 600rpm even with new mounts so try fix the idle first
Appreciate the info. Could this solve rough idle? Bought a high mileage Used 2012 Civic and I’m trying to give it some time and effort
Clean the throttle that might Ralee care of idle issues
amazing video, just wanna ask what is the safest cleaner to use will doing this.
I use parts cleaner brake cleaner works well
Thanks for the video. If I don't have the ability to use air what do you think about spraying some parts cleaner on a cue tip and cleaning it that way?
Oh ok yeah try that
Hi, great video and very helpful, I got a question, can I use trottle body cleaner ti clean my egr? Thank you
Oh yeah defiantly that would work do u have code for the EGR
my car not shifting down going downhill, and it shifts funny sometimes. 06 civic ex
Not sure not transmission expert
Great videos! So I had a code air intake system leak bank 1 and my mechanic couldn’t find the issue. We did smoke machine but didn’t see any leaks. Could it be the egr needs a cleaning? I just got code p049d egr control exceeded learning limit and a bunch on misfires. Thanks for your help
Possability yes
on hondas when doing this do u have or is must to remove baterry terminal? when working on electronic parts? how many miles shoudl start doing this?
No need to remove battery terminal 60k miles would be good time to clean at
Got a P0451 code today, Evaporative Emission System Pressure sensor. This has anything to do with the EGR?
No this is code for fuel pressure sensor it’s part of evap sensor
I change the two 02 sensors on my Honda Civic 2008 but engine light still appears . Do you have any suggestions ? I driven it for like 70 miles and nothing
Did u reset the light?
Ok man I got a question today I had the cats taken out of my 2014 Honda Civic same set up like u have there. Cats was clogged and the car still has a bad miss fire at times could that be my problem since the cats was clogged ??
Well first u need to diagnose the misfire other wise if u replace cats they will burn. Anyways did u scan the car for codes?
Can you do one for the 10th gen Honda civic or is it the same process.
If I get the vehicle and it has egr I will do
Thank you for the video! The code P-0498 is that connected to the EGR valve on 09 Honda Civic LX? I just replaced the Bank 1 upstream sensor but it is calling for this one also. Do you recommend this service from this video?
If u got code for it I would replace it
@@RBTheMechanic That is what I thought but Mom wanted to clean it first. I would guess that it would only be a temp fix
Hi thanks so much for all your videos ! They’ve been very helpful 💪🏼. I do have a question I haven’t came across on RUclips maybe u can help . I was recently on my way to work driving on the freeway in my Honda Civic 2016 and the car just stalled like the gas pedal wouldn’t let the car speed up and the engine light started flashing.the car was on but it wouldn’t go any faster so I pulled off the road shut it off and turned it back on and was able to continue driving no check engine light … I feel like the car can’t go over 3000 rpm’s . Any clue ? Thanks in advance for any response I know ur a busy man.
Scan the car and give me the codes. It might be transmission related also check ur oil level
@@RBTheMechanic awesome thanks so much.. I’ll have it scanned today after work and I’ll let u know. Thanks again!
@@RBTheMechanic hi there the code that pops up is the P0112 ..
@@bettyguzman7130 this could be related to maf sensor which can cause loss of power try cleaning it and reset the light
@@RBTheMechanic ok will do thanks very much for responding and your help!
Hey I have a honda Accord lx 2011 so my car blows air but in one sides blows more than the other side? What do u think
Check ur cabin filter first thing then u need to check to see if mode door motor changes directions u can simply do that by changing air to defrost feet and it should completely change directions but check ur filter first
Do I need to disconnect the battery ?
No
What kind a spray did u used on this, is it parts cleaner or break cleaner?
Brake cleaner works fine or u can use carburetor cleaner
Can u use carb an throttle cleaner
Question my 07 accord at 75 to 80mph is feeling a little hesitant, no engine codes nothing I'm gonna clean the egr but have you ever dealt with that? Also I do have 320k on her!
320k on her? Man that's been a great car for you hasn't it?
@@tonyjordan1320 yes sir shes still running that's my only issue I did a transmission fluid change and replaced the injectors think that was it😒 so I leave the car at home my wife drives it an she gets the check engine light (great) it finally gives me the code ! Will this help the fuel economy on a 2013 civic?
Not so much but it dose some type of fuel eco fix u might not even notice it
do we need to put anti sieze on bolts? or not needed?
No need to if u want that can be better more better!!
So do the 2006 civic and up have air idle control valve ? They seem to get clog up on the older model also
Yeah new civic have electric throttle I know 2005 and up had electrical which work like idle

I have 2006 ex coupe, cylinder 3 misfiring and I replaced all spark plugs and coils. When I’m driving like more than 2k rpm the engine light comes flashing they also error code for evap vent valve closed.
Umm that flash means heavy misfire did u check injectors and swap test with coils

This can be check for vaccum leaks as well
@@RBTheMechanic how so?
@@texasgangsta u can use smoke lock up the intake systm and insert smoke and see if there’s any leaks
Ended up being a cracked intake manifold.
Can i clean it with CRC air flow cleaner?
Yeah
I replaced my brake booster my car still misfiring so I’m gonna try this and see if that helps
Scan the car for codes
Before replacing the brake booster you should pinch the vacuum line to the brake booster. If the misfires continue, it's not the brake booster. Keep looking for the source of the misfires
Can I use back the old gasket without a gasket maker?
Yes u can
Thanks 👍🏾
I have an 06 with a misfire on cylinders 2 and 4. I initially had a code for 1 cylinder, and then another. The spark plugs and coils were good. I couldn't find any vacuum leaks and the injectors might be okay. Is there a way to diagnose this?
Well u can put on scan tool and see misfire data but try swapping ignition coils to diff cylinder see what the outcome is I have has this type of issue on civic long time got 4-5 years back I also changed relay in the fuse box I will look in to it tomorow
@@RBTheMechanic I tried swapping the coils and the misfire did not move around I don't think. I also tried to put in a new coil and thst didn't solve the issue either
By the way check ur oil change the oil if u need to run the engine up to 1500 rpm for like 30 seconds give it some brake for minute and do it again I have also had the timing with vtec stuck
@chargerification - I have the have exact problem - 06 Civic EX random misfire when accelerating. Replaced coils, spark plugs, fuel injectors, cleaned MAF, etc. All done but the random misfires P0300 still happened. Do you have any update of your issue why and how to fix? Thanks.
I had the same issue on a 2006 civic with the R18. Misfire codes on 2 and 3 and random misfire code. Ended up being a bad tension pulley creating to much drag when accelerating. Replaced the bearing and issue went away.
Why did you use back the old gasket? And I see others use gasket maker on it🤷🏻♂️
Old is gold!!!
