Hi Peter, I am an American girl teaching English in Lviv, love your videos, my only experience in Kyiv was in 2014 2 days after the Maiden square revolt, i stayed in the hotel on the square still smelling burned tires and watching people clean up the square, they were playing music and serving tea, i was in shock at the vibe 2 days after so much violence, but i am in Lviv now almost 2 years and wish i had moved here 20 years ago, i am in love with these people!!

I've been to Kiev Peter. I loved it had a great time. I am in Texas now (born in New York) and love it and going to visit Kiev and Poltava again soon. As far as corruption is concerned, the way I see it being an American we not only have corruption, we have self righteousness, political correctness and fear mongering at ridiculous levels. Last time I was in Ukraine, I stayed a month in Poltava in Dec 2012 and I never felt in danger nor did any "corruption" bother me. I felt people were doing their best to thrive in a society with perhaps not enough business laws to protect new entrepreneurs - maybe folks had less money to splash around but were just trying to make a living. American women on average can't compare to the class beauty and ability to talk about something cultural. I also loved I could drink beer in the car (not as driver of course) but as a passenger while I was being taxi'd around the city and I felt freer living there than in many cities in America--which have gotten crazy worse.
I grew up in the Bay Area--San Mateo, San Carlos--visited San Francisco plenty of times and it has descended into a semi apocalyptic horror and freedom-less place DESPITE all the so called wealth and 'progressive' mind set (homeless people staying in hotels shooting up heroin comes to mind--and SF is cutting edge?). San Fran has become riddled with self important know it all hypocritical politicians like Pelosi who live in a protected fantasy world of their own. It is truly sad what happened to the Bay Area which is one of the most beautiful places on earth: traffic, ridiculously expensive 1.5 million homes on a 5k square foot flat roof shoe box house. It's a massive con job put on by Silicon Valley mind sets -- bought into by millions because of the weather and beach--with soul robbing media garbage collector website like Facebook Twitter that sap kindness and cooperation and spirituality from human beings Bunch of robots doing pied piper Schmuckerberg's bidding. Long live Ukraine I hope to marry a Ukrainian woman one day and I hope Ukraine KEEPS its cool character and isn't corrupted by America culturally or morally.
Thanks for showing the world your Ukraine vids.

this video is made for people who are thinking about visiting Kyiv. For this reason, he mostly showed city center. Like if you take Los Angeles I believe most of the tourist will spend time on the northern part of the city rather than explore Compton) But, actually this is a beauty of Kyiv, no matter where you go you will not end up in place like Compton in LA or South side in Chicago, where even police barely go)

I like the idea that you said in the previous episode that there aren't "no cycling" signs everywhere at that there is freedom. I've been thinking more and more lately that I need to find a place where personal freedom still exists, where common sense exists, where the govt doesn't have control over every single moment of my life. I'm Australian, I currently live in the UK. Both those countries are bound heavily by what you can or can't do. I mean even in London there are parks that have "do not sit on the grass" signs on them. Both Oz and the UK are highly taxed, over-regulated, fines for this and that and everything you can think of. I just want a place I can sit on the grass, have a cigarette, and read a book in peace. It's such a simple thing to want.

Do not say "Russian-backed separatists". It's russian army and local supporters (traitors, collaborationists).

Must be dreadfully hard to swallow that your lot have been consistently and thoroughly trounced by an irregular bunch of local tractor drivers and miners that - in quite a bizarre twist of fate, right? - happened to be reluctant to be banned from using their native language and don't share a delusion that some generous foreigners will turn up to drown you in wealth just because you're so wonderful and so deserve it.
Your travesty of a country has been occupying these lands ever since they were carved off Russia by the founding fathers of the so-called 'Ukraine' - Bolshevik criminals Lenin and Jughashvili. People chose freedom from you - plain and simple.

@@PaulJohnson-jo7kt Not being a fan of historical fiction and such like, i.e. stories about dragons, magicians, or the mighty state of Ukraine that fought with the Roman empire, stormed Dunkirk, and colonised Mars and Venus, I only generally tend to mention something that can be corroborated with genuine documents, like for instance the forced Ukrainisation of Donbass and Novorossiya carried out as part of the Bolsheviks' nativisation campaign. Actual people from Russia started settling there in more or less significant numbers since the middle of the 18th century, which is why exactly they are the majority there. The so-called Ukrainians, which by the way were not referred to with this name back then, also started pouring into the area after they were generously allowed to settle there by the Russian monarchs.

It seems to me you might like to visit the "Kaffa" café on Maidan. Good coffee, maybe not the best, but you may like the design or the vibe.
    I like it.

Good video! I was only in Kyiv for 2 days less than two weeks ago but loved it. Visited some of the places you did in this video and at the restaurant in wooden building (4:25) - was really good. The food mart is very similar to the one i used to go to in Odessa. When you have a chance Peter, I would like to find out about cost of living in Kyiv such as reasonable apartments, location, etc. Thanks.

В українській мові є слово "спускатися", хоча прийнято вживати "сходити з гори", в данному випадку йдеться про конкретну назву вулиці "Андріївський узвіз".

Peter, I'm pretty sure that the hill you called "Lysa Hora" it's "Zamkova Hora" (Castle Mountain). Here was the main Kyiv castle in old times. It can be people mistake because even Kiev sitizens not really know these mountains names.
    Lysa Hora is here:

And you can walk there too. They say it is mesterious place ;) Witches danced here with demons here in old times.

    Dear, @Peter Santenello
if you worry about RUclips algorithm not recommending your video(s) as much, then you could simply put _(old spelling: Kiev)_ in the video’s description.
But, please, use only *KYIV* in main title(s) and thumbnail(s).
...This way you’ll help promoting the correct spelling, avoid confusion for other foreigners and get all the views you can.
    Thank you! :-)
