Took this journey 2 weeks ago, old rolling stock so some issues with facilities but staff were excellent and felt a very nostalgic trip with the clickity clack and being able to travel with the windows open. Looking to try and do their Prague route when it opens next year.

Wow really old school sleeper travel those stainless steel cars rather remind me of the Budd coaches on Via Rail's The Canadian & Hudson Bay trains can't wait to give it a go,might use OBB's Nightjet service coming back for a contrast
I tried to do a trip on an overnight sleeper train from Brussels to Berlin in June 2024. Train was cancelled about 5 hours before it was due to leave, and then German railways tried to persuade me that going Cologne then Manheim then catching a train at 2.30am to Munich, and then getting a train from Munich to Berlin was a good option. Ended up staying in Manheim for the night, bought a new ticket to Berlin and lost most of a day in the city I was aiming for as a result. Got my fares and hotel bill refunded but that's not the point.

Don't worry its planty space. We travelled to Poland from Scotland I we like it. Most comfort than night train Dusseldorf to Berllin but takes longer3- 4 hours ish

Yea, their schedule in general is questionable, in my opinion. Their problem is that they decided to arrive in Berlin very early due to wanting to stretch it all the way to Prague, and thus also leave Berlin very early. Ideally they'd move the schedule an entire hour. But if all goes to plan, there will be a second night train from Berlin via Amsterdam to Brussels by NightJet, maybe they fix that.

I've been meaning to do some research on it but all the info I found out about it was 5 months ago and I heard someone say you can take it all the way to Berlin from London. Once I'm in Europe again I'm definitely taking it but would love to know more details beforehand.

Looking forward to doing this route from Berlin sometime. I know quite a few people who prefer to use the train for Berlin-UK, I think this will make the journey a lot more comfortable. My only question: did you get disturbed at Bad Bentheim? Quite a few times on day trains back to Germany I‘ve had customs officials and drug-sniffing dogs going through every compartment- wouldn’t want that in the middle of the night.
In my experience at Bad Bentheim and including Bad Schandau on the Dresden - Prague route, checks are very random by police and zoll. Even when they do walk through the chances of being bothered by them are remote. Usual drill if they get on in Bad Schandau is stroll through the train then get off in Dresden. I've witnessed more action from Zoll on the S Bahn from Hrensko in the past. On the sniff for excess cigarettes and other assorted nasties from the Asian Markets.
Thanks for the helpful information, can you tell me what’s best to book returns or single? we are hoping to go to Salzburg for 5 days next year will be going via London/Brussels then overnight to Vienna then onto Salzburg, also when your train arrived at destination did you have to disembark straight away? also is the Eurostar noisy does it have any affect on ears! moreso entering the tunnel,thanks for any advice, much appreciated.
Nightjet direct from Paris might be better if it fits into your schedule; it stops in Salzburg. There's likely to be more Eurostar availability to Paris vs. Brussels, which might help. It does require a 10-minute walk to change stations in Paris though. You can also go from Brussels to Wels and then catch another train to Salzburg if that's your destination. Mark's site has some other options for London-Salzburg and it looks as if you can do it in a single but long day if you don't want to do a night train. You'll have to disembark at the station immediately upon arrival. Except for Eurostar where a return ticket can be cheaper, I think Nightjet prices everything as if it is two one-ways so just book that when you like.
Eurostar should be booked as return, as two one ways cost more than a return. All other trains on the Continent are usually one-way ticketed so it makes no difference.
Just went from Berlin to Antwerp.The train is simply too old and too loud.I couldn’t sleep at all from the noise and the beds are really not comfortable at all.The stuff is super nice but that doesn’t compensate.They could have done something to improve at least the beds.Like extra layers so that they are not hard as rock.
Excellent video, but at Amsterdam, annoying to have noisy passengers talking loudly in the aisle given the hour. Referring to the sitting car as (a) 'seats car' is rather clumsy in English. Only one or two first class sleeping cars (omitting the much higher berth capacity of the five couchette cars). The design from many years ago was not optimal as a toilet and shower for every compartment was omitted. Maybe a morning shower is an Australian obsession. The breakfast is good, aligning with my experience with other European rail operators. Let's hope this operator is successful as the more, the merrier. Many leisure travellers might prefer an 0850 arrival rather than the earlier current time: perhaps no train path is available.
'Sitting car' would be unnatural in English, we say 'seats car' or 'seating car'. Few sleepers have shower & toilet, showering has only become an obsession in the last couple of decades - before that, Sunday night was bath night, whether you needed it or not! ;0)
@@seat61 The US term for a car with seats is "coach." Amtrak has showers in the Superliner and Viewliner sleepers. Prior to those cars coming on line, no trains had showers. Earlier in the 20th century, showers were extremely rare. The Broadway Limited and California Zephyr each had one or two "master rooms" that had showers. I would not envy anyone taking a transcontinental train in the summer in the days before air conditioning. Particularly trains that traversed steamy Florida or the dusty western deserts. Before streamlined trains started coming on line in the late 1930s, you were on the train for THREE NIGHTS between Chicago and the West Coast.

No, I slept through Bad Bentheim and Hanover.

I don't recall any weird ear things on the Eurostar. Pretty well insulated. Certainly far less bad than flying in that respect.
