    Thanks for the nice video on this inaugural service. It's refreshing to see this train ride for what it is, instead of rambling continuously about the current shortfalls of this service without even understanding the reasons behind it, stating that the carrier rips people off, bragging about getting on the train without a valid ticket, etc, like some others do on their channel.

      It's been as annoying for SJ as for the passengers, but it's short term I hope, and will be fixed.

      Well, I assume you are pointing at me; I have never bragged about getting on the train without a valid ticket; I had a valid ticket (as tickets cannot be cancelled); The EBA (German Railway Authority) is investigating this incident and they will provide me with a written statement whether I had a valid ticket or not;

    I recently had the pleasure of spending a month in Ireland as an exchange student - it was so much fun!!! And of COURSE I made a point of taking the trains there as much a possible. Your channel really inspired me to go out of the way and take the train any time it was available on my journeys. :)

    Indeed it has been a troublesome start for this new night train service between Stockholm and Hamburg. Not least because of the delay in the approval of the carriages by the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority. With that said, I am very much looking forward to this new service and I will most definitely use it in the future since I live in Stockholm. We all know that the train is the most civilized and most comfortable option for traveling. I also appreciate your positive attitude Seat61 when it comes to this service and the initial hiccups. These issues will hopefully be straightened out soon. And I know that the staff working for SJ are professionals.

    Glad to see you managed to get a place in the couchette car. My ticket was cancelled 4 days before departure without replacement. Fortunately I had rebooked myself to a couchette in snälltåget already, which fortunately was running the same night (two night trains Stockholm to Hamburg the same night, what are the odds?), but it would have been nice if SJ or ÖBB (where I booked my ticket) had done so for me instead. So whereas mishaps can happen, the customer service could have been better in this case.

    I must say you painted the first run of this train in a much better light than Simply Railway or Doc7 did in their videos. The fact that the train ran with only two cars northbound and only ONE car southbound the next day tell me someone dropped the ball.

    • @seat61
      @seat61  2 года назад +11

      Doc7 had his sleeper cancelled and was a little pigged off about it. I recognise the issues that SJ have had to face, and hope they'll be fixed soon. They can certainly operate this train, it ran on time through 3 countries with 3 loco changes and several staff changes!

      @@seat61 Well, what I really like: We have 3 different video reviews about the inaugural journey; Each review represents the personal view of each reviewer (simply_railway, doc7austin, and seat61); This is perfect for the audience, they got the whole picture; For me personally, the ticketing situation was a bit more tricky; Reading other experience reports on the internet, it seems that all travellers (with cancelled tickets) were turned away on the platform and had to travel with a bus replacement service

      The backup coach (Hamburg‒Malmö) or backup X2000 connection (Stockholm‒Malmö, to overtake EN497 before Malmö is usually only needed if the train was re-timed to leave the starting station earlier [because of engineering works], and some of the passengers could not be contacted beforehand (eg. travelling on an Interrail ticket, but with a reservation booked via the OEBB system, or without up-to-date contact details for that reservation).

    Thank you for a very interesting video. But why is this train limited to couchette carriages?

    • @MercenaryPen
      @MercenaryPen 2 года назад +5

      my understanding, courtesy of watching another video on the inaugural service, was that the other carriages weren't ready for use in time for the scheduled introduction of the new service, and the operator couldn't find alternative carriages in time that met the requirements for the route to be taken

    • @jatterhog
      @jatterhog 2 года назад +6

      @@MercenaryPen SJ (operator) relied on RDC (service provider) to organize the trip, but, because of the war in Ukraine, the ordinary sleepers couldn’t be refurbished in time and the application for the replacement sleepers was submitted one month before service launch (normal in other European countries but the Danes require “up to 6 months” for some unknown reason). This means that SJ can’t offer sleepers & seating carriages and there probably being some shouting matches at both companies…

    Hi,
    I have to admit that I am quite confused about my journey with this still quite new EuroNight train.
    For next week I have booked a seat (!), while for the return journey in the first week of October I have booked a seat in the couchette.
    Now I have already been informed that only couchettes are running at the moment, as seating and sleeping cars have not yet been approved for Denmark.
    For the outward journey, I have already heard about a replacement bus service - is that real?
    If the train is really as empty as on the first journey, I would definitely try to get on the train on the outward journey.
    The return journey should theoretically not be a problem, as I have booked a couchette.
    I have not yet received a message from SJ and ÖBB (from whom I bought the ticket but have not yet retrieved the pdf).
    It's also strange that the timetable information continues to mention sleeping and seating cars...very strange.
    What should I do?

    • @shimpooky
      @shimpooky 2 года назад +1

      Hi, I have also booked a seat for next week. Yesterday (7 days before my journey, their deadline for cancellations) I called SJ and they confirmed that I was still listed on the passenger list and that, if I won't get a text message from them that day, my tickets would stay valid. So, as I didn't receive a message, I'm assuming that I'll be able to take the train without any major issues. If you're unsure, I recommend giving them a call, their english service is great, and I was in the queue for only a few minutes.

      I believe they have been having problems getting better cars certified to go through denmark even though nothing should be a problem. They have to leave the bistro car in malmö as an example, they aren't allowed to bring it through denmark because "it isn't certified" even though the right papers have been provided. Night trains within sweden are better.

    Just adding this here, as you have no contact details on your website. I would say to anyone looking at seat 61's London to Stockholm to not look into it. Here are my issues after taking the advice of seat 61. You cannot get a room on your own for the stated 146 euros. Try more like £500. Each way. Plus the Eurostar, and a hotel. You're looking at well over £1000, maybe £1200.
    Rail Europe. Awful site. The "just type in London-Hamburg and add it to your basket", is not a true sense of how this works. You add London - Hamburg, then your return, then your ticket details....and then the system says theres no tickets, or it can't book tickets. Doesn't matter if you set zero preference of your seat. Or you manage to get this journey in the basket, and the "you just add Hamburg to Stockholm and add to your basket".
    Nope. Fails. Ive wasted hours at this. Coming into looking further, thinking October is not further ahead of a date, and Dec 1st, theres no timetables.
    Wouldn't bother.

    • @seat61
      @seat61  Год назад +1

      There's a 'contact' link on every single page on the website. The starting price is indeed €146, but the train has become so popular, it always leaves fully-booked and they don't often need to discount it to the cheapest price bucket. It's been a remarkable success, it's been extended to Berlin in summer and it's possible they'll extend it all year.
