  • Check out this boat I found for my FIL. It's a 1983 Starcraft Aluminum boat - riveted. It needs some TLC but was a score from Craigslist. Had one soft spot in the wood decking but it was just one board that needed replacement.

Wow it's in good shape for it's age. I bought a Starcraft 22' CC 1984 in 95, same color scheme and used it exclusively in saltwater. I'm getting rid of it this year. It has a 150 mercury OB 1986 on it (needs work). I did a lot of work on it over the years. When I checked out where and how I fished it I averaged about 40 to 50 miles per trip. I've used it from Maine to the Elizabeth Islands. You can count on getting wet in sloppy weather because of the hull shape. Fix it up and it will be a good boat for you. I did not notice much in the way of poured insulation in the hull under the deck on your boat. Mine had a 50 gallon gas tank framed in wood. I removed my aluminum live well and put on a plastic round tank. It needs a younger man to look after it now.
Hey, Good luck with your boat.

Don't use pressure treated wood... destroys aluminum

I just picked up a 16' 1986 with a 50hp merc.. Thank you for posting this buddy - am I crazy for wanting to do a thick aluminum deck to last forever?

Don't use pressure treated wood on aluminum!! It will corrode it.

copper treated wood in your aluminum boat will create bad corrosion damage... use epoxy sealed marine grade fir plywood.
