This is a great video! I am replacing a section of flooring in my Grady white boat and couldn’t figure out what to do on the edges after I opened it up. After watching this, I was able to remove the bad pieces of wood along edges and replace with filler just like in this video. Great recommendations here, thank you!
The absolute best thing to use toseal the edges of the deck is a product called "marine tex". Ir comes in colors but you need white. Its 2 part epoxy made for boat decks and fibetglass repair. It dries hard as a rock and is sandable and paintable. Great stuff. Repairs
Wow man ! I know exactly what you were going through. I replaced 90% of the Bayliner deck! Its always good to have a buddy! Lol. Great job you guys did! Spring will be here before you know it!😄
Grea job. Very clean job. I do fiberglass work my self i repair boats. Very educational for does who don’t know this kinds of repairs. Boys great work. Blessing.
This guy gave it the old college try. But he did it ass backwards. I rebuild at least 5 of these Carolina skiff front decks. Please read this comment if you are gonna rebuild one. First, take the front deck off of the boat. Then flip it over upside down. Then cut around the entire rotten area. Leave the perimeter edges intact. Then cut out all of the rotten plywood. Then cut about 6o 6x6 squares of plywwod. Lay down some resin. Then lay the new plywood squares using the previously laid ones as a basic template. Then fill in the gaps between the wood squares generously. Then lay about 3-4 layers of 8 oz fiberglass mat. Then that will do it. Takes less than one sheet of plywood, and 2-3 gallons of resin, along with the glass mat. $200-$300 in materials. But it will be more solid than factory.
Do you happen to have a video when the bottom fiberglass is also damaged. The previous owner took off a seat stand and it rotted out the wood but also the bottom fiberglass too. Great video by the way.
Great video thanks so much.. I have to replace the entire floor of the boat i just purchased. Do you remember what thickness of fiberglass matt you used for that project?
@@Bakanelli I am 100% not going to put any kind of wood back in my floor. This is a do it once job and never again.. Remember that even the best marine plywood you can buy will rot over time (even if wrapped in fiberglass). In my research i have found that a product called coosa board is top of the line best to use, its not wood its a composite, most of the new boats use it. However its about $200+ per sheet and for me it will take 2 sheets. The down side is that coosa board is designed to wrap with fiberglass and resin but it will most likely last forever. I am still shopping around because i dont want to mess with laying fiberglass on the whole floor.
Man, I have that problem on my boat. But it's not a wonderfully easy straight part of the boat like you have there... For me it is on the cabin roof near the edge and where it curves on two sides, also near the hatch, although the hatch is probably OK. Fuck. It looks very easy, I could do it if it would be further away from edges and curves. But now I am not sure. Bet I can ignore it as I plan to buy a different boat anyways
Hey Mr. Gig master I got a question?????. . . Did you use to be the turtle man on TV.??????. You sure look and talk like him I was just wondering And I thought I would ask you that question. . . . Looking good Skipper!
Great info. I found a soft place the other day in the engine compartment of my new-to-me 1989 Bayliner 2450.
Great repair Steve, looking good man.
Great job stevie
Great job guy's !
Looks good gig!
Why do boat builders use the absolute cheapest plywood you can find. Then tell you how great the boats are built. Charging top dollar. No oversight?
Lot of work but looks great.
Nice repair guys👍🏻
Ever hear of a Jigmaster 500 fishing reel??? I have three of them and I got my first one in 1967!!!
Where is pt 2? Wanting to see how to repair the cutline
Looks like all those recycled lead weights came in handy.
Oh yeah!
What kind of blade did you use to cut fiberglass.
Do you happen to have a video when the bottom fiberglass is also damaged. The previous owner took off a seat stand and it rotted out the wood but also the bottom fiberglass too. Great video by the way.
Now I know how to repair my floor on my deck boat
Good luck! Clean it out good and sand!
good job..
Success friends
I wonder if they used wood squares so that the deck would have some flexibility to it? That was a job!
The squares are so the water doesn’t wick. Theoretically speaking.
They do that with sailboat decks.
Great video thanks so much.. I have to replace the entire floor of the boat i just purchased. Do you remember what thickness of fiberglass matt you used for that project?
Bought at Home Depot the thick mat
May the god be with you. I’m in the same boat

@@durangodave Thanks for the info! Please let us know what other non-wood alternatives you found. I doubt I can get Coosa board in EU :(
Yeeee
What kind of epoxy did you use?
Why is the volume on the music blasting compared to the normal voice audio??
How did u fill in the cut gap at the end? Did you make another video?
Fiberglass!

What’s the difference between the fiberglass matting and fiberglass cloth?
Thickness
Why not lay just fibreglass? Will it not be stiff enough?
when u get this message, did you use marine plywood or did you use treated plywood?
Exterior plywood. It has the water resistant glue.
@@Gigmaster ok thanks, im putting new plywood on my pontoon, i beleive im going to put marine plywood on mine tho..
Did you use marine grade plywood or pressure treated plywood?
Exterior which uses water resistant glue
Not pressure treated
Where is the finished product?
Still think you should make a prop wash.
In my thoughts!
What did you use to seal the top piece of Deck? (What did you use to fill in the crack)
The fiberglass that was there. I cleaned it up
what depth did you cut through the deck? 5/8"?
Just cut the existing fiberglass off removed rotten wood and replaced with same thickness and used the original fiberglass on top i cut off.
You guys need to change your names to hack and whack
The music should be louder
