The way new cars are now with all the unknown problems cropping up, I'd only buy something several years old where you can research problems with that model. Then very carefully inspect it. Go private seller if you can.
Our family has done that for many many years, and it has always been great for us. We pay cash through private sales, and have not had car payments in 20 years. Since we do know how to fix our own cars, even drop in a new engine if needed, that helps when purchasing since we can inspect the cars ourselves. The newer stuff is overpriced garbage now-a-days and I wouldn't touch it. It is not worth getting into debt up to your eyeballs for a car payment. (Just sayin')
I always say stick with the major auto dealerships for a used car, if you can. They tend to be pickier about the quality of the cars they sell, plus they're usually more apt to negotiate prices.

Carmax and any other used car dealers are free to price their vehicles at any price point they choose. The market will weed out the contenders and the pretenders!
Carmax buys from fleets, auctions, and occasionally the people. I have evidence that they wash the title of damaged cars and improve the accident report about them. They refunded my $600 shipping fee just to get me away from the dealership as I categorically demonstrated mismatched body panels, several mismatch paint attempts. Car was immediately shipped to new location. I looked up another car that was similar. Accident report as well. Several auctions in its history. They buy bad cars and move them through several states to clean up the title. They refunded the UN refundable shipping fee to avoid the lawsuit. Proof.
@@FrysGIRL I asked them for the report about the car when you look them up online it gives you a report but what happened is the report was not nearly as severe as the damage that I actually found in person the report was minimize the data probably a lot of unreported damage and what was reported was under reported and so in accurate and basically was very suspicious when I got to the dealer after I had paid to have it shipped here it took her an hour to get the thing out to me and I asked her what she was doing and she said she was cleaning it and it was filthy with road dirt so obviously they couldn’t get it started and all the panels were mismatched and the gaps were just awkward it it was really sad it was a beautiful car that had been rude and I’m certain that they washed the title by moving it from Auction house to Auction house it went through like four different four or five different states before it got here due to auctions and it’s pretty obvious to see what they do I sold cars to them and my cars were perfect compared to the car that they offered me it was a huge insult and way over priced I’m not sure any part on that car would be usable because of the electronic gremlins that probably happened from being T-bond from whatever severe accidents it has been in during its life
Sounds to me like CarMax has found a pretty good niche for now because of their Buy here-Pay Here Policy. Of course that could come back to bite them big time eventually with Repos. I sold a 3 year old Camry to them once and it was a quick and easy transaction, I had my check in less than an hour, and I feel like I got a fair price.
Hi there, I need some advice here. I missed my opportunity to buy a brand new 4Runner TRD Off-road. Now it is too late, dealers don't have them new. If they do have, they come with crazy markups. What is the best option/ place to buy low miles 2021-2024 4Runner. I'm even considering salvage options from Copart / IAA. What is your thoughts? Should I wait till spring 2025?
What is your take on buying used cars from a rental car sales place close to international airports? I bought a nice Mustang from one back in the 80's. Pretty low miles, good condition at a fair price. Now days it seems like rental cars have a huge stigma to them. Back then they didnt keep them for more than a year or 30k miles.
As long as people are having accidents and car's are in poor condition not worth to fix people are going to by car's. That said, Prices and intrest rates are still out wack for the average consumer. The only thing that's going to change this is a boom in the economy. 🇺🇸
The best way to shop Carmax is to buy one that has just come off a lease. One-owner, regular oil changes and services, documentation, etc. Everything else is junk. Secondly, Carmax is in the business to make money. It is the consumers job to do their due diligence to find the condition of a vehicle. Carmax uses AutoCheck which is crap. Buying a Carfax report is worth the money if you find exactly what you want. The reason Carmax crushes it, and will continue to do so, is also because you don't have to deal with an incompetent used car salesman. Walk in, fill out the paperwork, walk out. They have good deals, you just have to be smart enough to find them.
People aren’t buying new because like you said a lot of people won’t qualify. Banks are not screwing around anymore. Carmax is taking a huge risk with people with subpar credit and a high risk of a repo. So what would you do?
Carmax customers have subprime credit. These customers cannot get an auto loan at a regular dealer and have few choices. Carmax makes its money financing to people with poor credit.
But try to get Scamax to honor their warranty. I couldn't for weeks even though my car was a lemon and kept conking out on the road. They kept lying and claiming it was running perfectly!
The pro you shared has less than 10K miles a year being a 2019. When it was new it was close to 50k. Seems like a fair deal. In addition financing wise. They have big name lenders that they use. And CarMax has no control who those companies approve, there isn’t a finance person in that building. Carmax’s has a lender company they own, but that is only for folks with top tier credit. Do more research my friend.
@@Griswold20 you think a 6 year old 4Runner is worth $2-3K less than its original MSRP? 🤔 interesting. Carmax has a lot of control of who they can approve. They have their own backed loans. So, take your own advice please… smh 🤦♂️
Unfortunately, some people still need a car. I'm sure they can't afford new (or get the loan) and so Carmax is going to rip them off because no one else will finance them.
That 2015 Corolla at $17k is super expensive. KBB on that is something like 8-10K my mom just got on with 56K on it. That thing is certainly not worth anywhere near $17K.
I don’t understand the sub prime finance market. Loaning money to people with bad credit for high rates is just asking for trouble. People with bad credit didn’t get that way because they always pay their bills.
We just sold our 2012 Subaru Forrester with 83k miles to Carvana for double the dealer trade in offer, 33% more than the Carmax offer, and probably at least 25% more than we could have gotten selling it on our own. Accident free, well maintained and clean running but it did have some typical bumper scrapes , dings and scratches. The Carnava rep said they completely recondition the vehicle, so I’m guessing they have a well defined business model on what models/years/mileage are most profitable. It definitely made our selling process easier!
UM, can we get back to the vehicle review content? Last 5 videos about the market/collapse/rates etc....we get it and miss the content that started this channel

I hate to be that guy but…..We’ve sold 3 different vehicles to Carmax over the years and got a much better price than the low-balling dealerships were willing to give towards a trade. Sometimes $2-3K more.
Scamax offered $1000 for a car I wanted to sell. I laughed at their offer and kept it. Several years later it was totaled in an accident and got $3000 settlement.

I got a car from Carmax at a wonderful price (under wholesale). But that's where the positive ends. The car turned out to be a 🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋 and I've had great trouble getting Scamax to honor their warranty. For weeks they lied about its condition saying it's running as it should and refusing to fix anything. Finally they admitted there's a problem when I took their mechanic on a ride and it practically conked out on the road and they are now fixing it. But I am not optimistic that those incompetent azzhoIes will repair it properly or that the car will be trouble free.
The great reset or recession has started in the auto industry. Ridiculous pricing. Not just Toyota. Most all are in trouble. Good enough. I have decided to wait to buy. I have loved Toyota for a long time. Lost faith in them. The 25 Nissan frontier looks good for the price however interior is lacking and resale value is aweful. So I’m going to just wait to buy

I have small BHPH dealer, and we have been selling so much September and October, it feels like tax season lol
That's great to hear! Congrats. =]
I really enjoy the information Untamed 💯This vehicle market is a roller coaster ride
I really appreciate your consistent support, Mike. Thank you.
Bought three vehicles at CarMax in the last 8 years. Nothing but great experiences and seriously don’t blame them for floating a loan to people with shitty credit. At least they’re providing the opportunity
You voted for Bidunce didn't you? HOw did we know.
I'm glad you've had positive experiences. =]
This is just crazy. So glad I am not in the market for a new car. Even happier I have finally paid off one of my cars and own the title. Who we have in the White House has a huge impact on all of this. I really hope people are paying attention and vote wisely or nothing will change and in fact things may get much worse.
May, you mean Will !!!

It's just used cars from new car dealers that wanted them off their lot, then Carmax marks the price up even more.
The Mazda has the best engine in its class. Good cars.
Appears carmax still fleecing their customers.
MSRP is supposed to be $27k so $37k for used is crazy.
I couldn't agree more!
Couldn’t agree more. Good advice. 👌
I actually got a much lower price at Carmax. The problem is Scamax refuses to honor their warranty if there's ever a problem.
@@jamslam5641 Exactly why I bought my used car from my local Ford dealership. Shortly after I purchased, the car developed an oil leak from the rear main seal. Had it not been for the extended warranty I purchased, I would have been thousands out of pocket. Basically the warranty paid for itself already, and I even got a brand new loaner car for the duration of the repair.
Thanks for the information. Looks like a new vehicle is out of the question for a while.
Dave Smith Motors in Kellog Idaho is advertising Chev Silverado 2500 for 48k brand new. They are the biggest dealership west of the Mississippi, so they deal in huge volume
Couldn't find a car to buy during Covid, lots were empty so ended up leasing a Corolla sight unseen. 3 years later I wrote a check to Toyota for $13k to buy it; CarMax offered me $20k. The car has 6,700 miles on it.
Carmax and any other used car dealers are free to price their vehicles at any price point they choose. The market will weed out the contenders and the pretenders!
And the people who over pay will either make their ridiculous payments or work to avoid the repo man
Carmax has probably the highest repo rate with approving people thru their own bank. They are learning a valuable lesson as we speak.
@@ChristopherSmith-rn4wd that’s a fact 👌
Carmax buys from fleets, auctions, and occasionally the people. I have evidence that they wash the title of damaged cars and improve the accident report about them. They refunded my $600 shipping fee just to get me away from the dealership as I categorically demonstrated mismatched body panels, several mismatch paint attempts. Car was immediately shipped to new location. I looked up another car that was similar. Accident report as well. Several auctions in its history. They buy bad cars and move them through several states to clean up the title. They refunded the UN refundable shipping fee to avoid the lawsuit. Proof.
Man that is just wild... smh. No regard for the customer.
How were you able to find out the real history besides using CARFAX?
@@FrysGIRL I asked them for the report about the car when you look them up online it gives you a report but what happened is the report was not nearly as severe as the damage that I actually found in person the report was minimize the data probably a lot of unreported damage and what was reported was under reported and so in accurate and basically was very suspicious when I got to the dealer after I had paid to have it shipped here it took her an hour to get the thing out to me and I asked her what she was doing and she said she was cleaning it and it was filthy with road dirt so obviously they couldn’t get it started and all the panels were mismatched and the gaps were just awkward it it was really sad it was a beautiful car that had been rude and I’m certain that they washed the title by moving it from Auction house to Auction house it went through like four different four or five different states before it got here due to auctions and it’s pretty obvious to see what they do I sold cars to them and my cars were perfect compared to the car that they offered me it was a huge insult and way over priced I’m not sure any part on that car would be usable because of the electronic gremlins that probably happened from being T-bond from whatever severe accidents it has been in during its life
The only Focus to buy is with a manual transmission. The automatic is defective and been recalled, however don't think even Ford can fix it.
The CarMax business model: buy cars at auction or private sale-recondition and detail-sell-finance-repossess-repeat.
Haha that's the ugly truth.
One benefit of CarMax is their warranty is good. You can add three or whatever years of coverage vs other used sales where you can't add that.
Scamax refused to honor my warranty for weeks. They denied there was any problem until they saw it with their own eyes. They are crooks!
I'm still daily driving the new car I bought 15 years ago.
Went there and they wanted 28%, crazy.
Absolutely insane. wow.
I feel much better about my rate now. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@UntamedMotors that's very predatory behavior, went some were else go 12%.
I went to Car Max looking for a car, opened some doors and everyone of them stunk. I mean bad. Walked away right then!!!!
I'm begging that prices come down. I'm so close to finding a good conditon 200,000 mile 2010 Army Green FJ Cruiser. Dream car.
People aren’t buying new because like you said a lot of people won’t qualify. Banks are not screwing around anymore. Carmax is taking a huge risk with people with subpar credit and a high risk of a repo. So what would you do?
Save the money, forget the credit score
Carmax customers have subprime credit. These customers cannot get an auto loan at a regular dealer and have few choices. Carmax makes its money financing to people with poor credit.
I am glad Already paid off my car
Ususally I only use carmax for their quotes to buy a car of mine. Take that to a dealer and use it.
The Golf R makes sense a bit though being an R.
Great presentation, totally makes sense, thanks.
Thank you for the kind feedback, I really appreciate that! =]
They offer a warranty where regular dealers don’t.
Great point to add. Thank you
But try to get Scamax to honor their warranty.
Yeah, i was listening to this like ummmmm...
@@Griswold20 you think a 6 year old 4Runner is worth $2-3K less than its original MSRP? 🤔 interesting. Carmax has a lot of control of who they can approve. They have their own backed loans. So, take your own advice please… smh 🤦♂️
You must work there or are very gullible. I worked there briefly and left cause they’re trash all around.
I have had good experiences with Carvana.
I love car max
Carmax’s stock will go down the drain when all of these risky car notes go sideways
Glad I live next to a cemetery. I don’t care if neighbors are not impressed by the old car I drive
Unfortunately, some people still need a car. I'm sure they can't afford new (or get the loan) and so Carmax is going to rip them off because no one else will finance them.
Stop buying from hedge fund car dealerships autonation and carmax, for example!!!
I enjoy the nod to The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.
I’ve never looked at a car at carmax that wasn’t wrecked….i hate that place
You're not alone on that. It should never be a preferred spot to buy.
We consumer has the power....Use it or loose it.😮
The Ford Focus cost ONLY 14k NEW??????
Hi, carmax want to buy me my 2021 Toyota 4Runner SR5 premium. What do you think?
Bought a brand new 2024 RAV4 for my daughter. Paid 30
UM, can we get back to the vehicle review content? Last 5 videos about the market/collapse/rates etc....we get it and miss the content that started this channel
Sell it and people are there to buy it. Let them do what they Gotta do. People have to decide on their own whether they can afford a car or not don’t blame Carmax because people are stupid.😂
People with good credit aren't getting denied car loans 😂, people with high debt to income ratio, and potentially prior credit issues may be denied
I've never seen a 1794 in that green
The Golf R is in range.
@ it’s not for everyone. Our vehicles were in excellent shape with new(ish) tires.
Car max hasn’t cured their title problems either last I heard.
Anyone knows how much should I pay for a 2021 ram 1500 Big Horn? 😁😉👍
I just want a realiblie crew cab.
I paid 29k plus tax for my brand new 2024 Vw Tiguan and VW is offering 0% interest rate, carmax is way too over priced
7:24 why not just go buy a new one? cause new ones are near 70k dollars.
Carmax profits are up so is their operating capital.
3:04 A new 2024 xlt is $26,000. WTH?
Shout out Ford Focus!
Have been in a market for a 2.5 gen tundra for the past year. Carmax is a joke compared to private seller and tundra groups. They want their weight in gold
That is all consumers’ fault
Nope those 1" gaps are just the shoddy Toyota workmanship and drop in quality and dependibility.
The $44K 2016 RAM 3500 Tradesman has been wrecked and badly repaired. A new Silverado 3500 crew cab long bed WT 4x4 diesel dually is $66K before discounts.
why buy the gti when the rav4 is cheaper and more reliable and more space
I got a car from Carmax at a wonderful price (under wholesale). But that's where the positive ends. The car turned out to be a 🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋 and I've had great trouble getting Scamax to honor their warranty. For weeks they lied about its condition saying it's running as it should and refusing to fix anything. Finally they admitted there's a problem when I took their mechanic on a ride and it practically conked out on the road and they are now fixing it. But I am not optimistic that those incompetent azzhoIes will repair it properly or that the car will be trouble free.
I’m really sorry to hear that… sounds like a huge headache. =\
A new golf r will cost you over 50k
My 2005 Jeep has a normally aspirated V-8. I"m keeping it. I don't want a turbo crap 4cyl- no matter what democraps tell me I want.
Biggest crooks in the industry
The problem is the people not those dealers
Illegal Alien financing available. Millions coming in need transportation & they can afford $1500/mo loans as our tax dollars are subsidized
If you are someone buying cars and making payments you are a fool and are putting your finances in extreme jeopardy. Buy less car and pay cash for it.
