Kayaking the Platte River and Mississippi River floodplain - Potosi, WI - May 2023

The Mississippi River was at 24.7' at Clayton; this is about 10' over normal river levels. The lower Platte River becomes a floodplain when the Mississippi backs up. The result is a huge floodplain resembling a lake surrounded by the hillsides. Although the flooding creates significant issues and damage when this occurs, the result for paddlers is a unique experience.
