Just finished the game. And I think that the void ending is when Dwayne couldn't escape the guilt and was stuck in a state where he isn't alive and dead at the same time. While in the Mask ending, he was able to atone for his sins, and could finally die; leaving the purgatory and meeting with his family once again.
I was confused by the good ending. If the 3 people you kill in the opening scene are your family, then why are there only 2 people that you reunite with at the end?
In my eyes the endings could be swapped around. The father should be punished for his crimes aka the void ending. This is a good ending I think. The father rejoinijg the family doesn't really fit I think he, but I guess he came to see what he was but idk if the family could forgive him for killing them
He did not kill his family bcs he really wanted to, the story is complex as the factor that brought him to this point. You could say the entire game is his "punishment" tho since in a conversation between him and the masked man from tv , he says to him: one might say this is the first time you are facing reality
I saw one of the visage theories saying that Dwayne aka our protagonist had a part in Lucy, Dolores & Rakan’s death but just by a bit so his “purgatory” is to solve the mysteries of why they died… and so now im gonna make some things up the so called trophies by trophies i mean lucy’s jaw, a hand mirror and eye made the mask because each of those trophies are a symbol of him solving their deaths so they to can move on and not be ghosts anymore including him
i know your comment is a year old but i have to agree. Dwayen did no deserve to be reunited with the family he so horrifically murdered. If i were his wife or his children I'd wish hell upon him regardless of what he saw in purgatory lol
Everybody talking about Dwayne kill his family, but i think there is an evil possession on that house and Dwayne maybe send his family to heaven for saving them about that evil entity or etc. Maybe all that evil sprits is some metaphor idk. Im really love this game, thats a beautyful story telling..
@@DoctorWas In my opinion, after the tension of the whole game the ending should be an experience of freedom (at least the "good" ending). Now this also happens to be where the dev put the credits. Also I like looking at who made the game.

Honestly it sounds like he came up with that track all digitally. No name for it, just a filler song. Sorry.
Is it me or the woman's shadow at the end of the good ending has little horns on her head? The silhouettes aren't really similar to his family in the prologue either.
And I entered a state of subconsciously desperately trying to find out the truth, although I know that i will never be able to know or reach the whole truth, I can only get nearer to it, but never grasp it. It's like grabbing into the air and trying to grab one specific atom from the entire universe. Maybe that's why someone here commented that the truth-seeking might be the purgatory after death: you can't go until you have found the truth, but you will never be able to find it, thus making purgatory eternal. And what if this is the prelude to entering another realm? A non-material realm, more or less dimensions, or just a rebirth? But you can't ever get out of the purgatory. And as someone with autism who overthinks way too much, the psychological horror of this game hit HARD. And even before this, I have always been absolutely obsessed with such things. And now that I have MAYBE decoded one mystery, I have no way to know if that's the correct solution or how many more are waiting. And what if I take the wrong solution once and don't know about it, and the route just goes on eternally with no way to go back and take the correct one? One small mistake and even your existence (if that's real) after death is doomed forever. And we take so many mental decisions about such things without realising it, we are probably all already on the path to this doom without even realising it. There is a small chance we aren't, but then there's the concept of universal possibility (which I believe in): Everything, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING, is possible. No matter how small the possibility is, it's still there. So grabbing that one atom out of the entire universe/sphere of existence is still possible, but the chance is just really small. So maybe the correct path is like that atom; it's possible, but still just so damn improbable that we're ever going to take it. That anyone is ever going to take it. And maybe I love those psychohorror things because I somehow subconsciously know that I have to go through those things to have a maximum chance of grabbing that one atom, no matter how small the added chance is. I just really want truth and I have no idea why, but maybe something in me is alerting me of this purgatory and subconsciously pushing me to try to find out truth even when I am still alive to make it out of there sooner. But what if I just abandon the hunt for truth once I know why I do that? This happens often. Think about wanting to breathe. You will stop breathing. Now apply this experiment to the search for truth. What if you are ceasing to want this right now? You wouldn't know because you will forget everything about this comment at some point, and maybe you will actually stop trying to find truth. If so, I'm sorry. Maybe I am helping you right now, maybe I am dooming you, none of us has a way to know. Or am I helping or dooming myself? Noone can know that either. There are no absolutes, so why should there also be a yes or no to anything? Everything is something between the extremes, while the extremes themselves don't exist. We can't know.
There is a theory, when u die, ur brain rewind all of ir memory in 7 minute, maybe.... when dwyne realize everything that he've done, he went to the prayer/redemption room, he asking for forgiveness, he remember God Idk it#s just my theory
@@SoulHorizon1313 I just finished the game for the first time and got the good ending, but I realized you get the bad ending when there is 0 bullets in the chamber and 6 for the good ending. So after the good credits finished I continued the game and when back into the room you shoot myself and give it 5 more times until the chamber was empty. Then I got the bad ending.

You are right, the Story is kind of fluffy and panzy, possibly a mental "disease" redress.
Collecting the mask fragments puts him though the horrors of his past and redeemed him

no the good ending is not horrible, it goes to interpretation. In my opinion, in the end, the family forgives him for the mistakes he made
