The Evolution of True Crime Games (2003 - 2012)

True Crime is a series of open world action-adventure video games told from the perspective of law enforcement. There are two games in the series and the third game True Crime-Hong Kong was released as Sleeping Dogs, True Crime: Streets of LA, released in 2003, and True Crime: New York City, released in 2005. Each game features GPS-accurate open world recreations of parts of Los Angeles and New York City, respectively. Streets of LA was developed by Luxoflux for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube, and ported to Microsoft Windows by LTI Gray Matter, to mobile by MFORMA and to macOS by Aspyr. It was published on all systems by Activision, except the Mac version, which was published by Aspyr. New York City was developed by Luxoflux for PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube, and ported to Windows by Aspyr and to mobile by Hands-On Mobile. It was published on all systems by Activision.
Why is Sleeping Dogs included in here?:
In 2007, they hired United Front Games to develop an open world game set in Hong Kong. By 2009, this game had become True Crime: Hong Kong. However, in 2011, the game was cancelled. Square Enix employee, and avid fan of the franchise, Heath Hallas made strives to revive the game, until, ultimately, the publishing rights were picked up by Square Enix several months later, and True Crime: Hong Kong was ultimately released in 2012 as Sleeping Dogs, which has no connection to the True Crime series. In 2014, Activision abandoned the True Crime trademark.

Square Enix should buy the True Crime name IP and remake Streets Of LA and NYC the same way Sleeping Dogs was. And if they remake or remaster Sleeping Dogs again, they can call it True Crime: Hong Kong or True Crime Hong: A Sleeping Dogs Story. Streets Of LA remake just needs features from NYC and Sleeping Dogs like customize clothing, glasses, option to have one gun instead of dual wielding, different fighting styles from NYC, fight clubs, but retain the best parts from that game. And those games needs to be polished in terms of bugs, glitches, freeze-ups and more in NYC and have features from Sleeping Dogs like jumping from vehicle to vehicle, RPG power ups (XP), and a average ending.

@@eaglelion7730 I think the license music might still be tricky but i would like them to focus more on gameplay, graphics, and story improvement. All songs probably don’t have to be put in similar to the game cube version of Streets Of LA because of mini-disc limitations. Custom soundtracks can still be a welcome.

Square Enix is getting busy. Because soon in 2024 there will be a new game and it was Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

SE is no longer interested in an IP that does not generate profits. Now that ABK is from Xbox, there is a possibility that they will revive this game since there were rumors that it was canceled due to continuing development with Warzone.

True crime street of LA was was the only game I used to get really really mad angered I couldn’t control my anger good game I didn’t finish it the last board was super hard I pass true crimes ny it was a really long story

I'm still hoping we get a True Crime remaster of both games.
It was so fun. Especially the second, even with its bugs. I played it a lot!

I remember I had the 2nd one. Had a game breaking bug like after the second mission. It would always crash. And the frame drops were horrendous. Never even got to play the damn game to this day 😢. True crime streets of LA was incredible I'm sure the NY one would have been. Downloading sleeping dogs haven't played it yet.
