Thank you for doing this video I was asked to do a barrel for a none profit I volunteer with your video is the first one and only video I need know to make this barrel . You stated about 30 minutes but I think that’s if someone has done one before or working with someone. I will be doing it alone hope it’s not too much past 30 minutes once I gather all the supplies. Again thank you!
This was very helpful for our VBS. I added some solid round sections inside, just two, middle and top. The middle disk larger than the top and the top disk was about and inch from the top. It add a good shape and made it a lot less flimsy.
That is awesome. I been telling my girlfriend of 2 years and 1 day today about creating a garbage can! That looks like a authentic Whiskey Barrel. The ones that are full of Jack Daniel's cost in between $15,000 - $20,000 $$$ I been looking to building mine out of Pine Lumber and making it look realistic. This is so going to be a good replica of what I want to do. All you two did is tape the inside of the bottom and top with duck tape!!?? That's genius. I was thinking of using cardboard only I'd of went all the way through with the box cutter. THANK A LOT MY FUTURE WIFE IS GOING TO LOVE THIS. I have to get to work! 😁😀🤩🐈♥️🌋
It's fairly sturdy, so I think it would be able to support holding empty plastic bottles. If you wanted to make it sturdier, you could reinforce the inside with more tape. Hope this project goes well for you!
Hey I recently watched this you tuber called The Maker that shows tool use hacks that any multi crafter (such as yourself) would find useful ruclips.net/video/yEY2Q8e8sK0/видео.html
Aw, thanks! My mom and I had found some pictures of barrels like these online, but we couldn't find instructions anywhere! So, we played around and came up with this design. Thanks for subbing!
Very helpful! We're doing a pirate theme in our yard this Halloween for the trick-or-treaters, and a few barrels will be the perfect touch! Thank you for this video!
This is super neat! I plan on cosplaying Ice Climbers with a friend and was searching videos on how to make their signature mallet. Though most mallet tutorials were on Harley's more cylinder shaped mallet. I could not for the life of me find a mallet prop tutorial that showed how to make a more barrel shaped mallet. Then I came across this. Do you think I can make this cardboard barrel into a mallet of sorts? I think simply putting a handle through it would definitely do so but I am curious as to how I would make the cardboard texture a more solid wood texture. I thought about AVA foam but I can't figure out how I would get the flat foam to shape properly to the barrel shape. Any suggestions by chance?
Glad you appreciate it! After some research and thinking through different ideas, I have some initial thoughts. First, I'm not entirely sure either how to make the AVA foam lay smoothly against the barrel without also being ridged (i.e. essentially making the barrel shape out of AVA foam, which would still have the original dilemma of slats versus a rounded wood shape like the Ice Climbers' mallets.) You could try following the steps for making a barrel with AVA foam and then sand/trim down the edges to make it rounder; however, the open slits will still be visible. So, a different solution would be to make the mallet out of cardboard, but cut the slits very thin and then cover the completed barrel/mallet head with gummed kraft paper. (I don't have much personal experience with kraft paper, but I'll share a link that explains the basic instructions for using it. Watch starting around 2:08 for how to prep the sponge, then skip forward to 3:23 for wetting and using strips of gummed kraft paper: ruclips.net/video/VYQ159IH2-Y/видео.html Also, I'll share a link for gummed kraft paper so you know what I'm talking about: amzn.to/2wMpB8e Again, I haven't used this specific brand personally, but it has good reviews on Amazon, so I feel okay about recommending it. :) ) With this method, I would advise you really think through your measurements before you cut so they are precise and neat. Obviously, you will want to change the dimensions from what is shown in the video, so take the time to think through what dimensions you want. The last idea I'll throw out there is to make a cardboard barrel in the dimensions you want, then coating it with an expanding foam. I haven't tried this idea, so this is only a theoretical solution, but once the barrel is coated in the expanding foam, the idea would be to sand and shave down the foam to the desired shape. Essentially, you would end up with a cardboard barrel frame covered in expanding foam that you shape. Then it would just be a matter of attaching a handle and coloring the mallet the way you want it to look. As I said, this last idea is purely theoretical, so I can't guarantee it's a viable solution. When do you plan on cosplaying Ice Climbers? I could experiment with the expanding foam idea and put together a video with my method and results if you don't need the mallet for another few weeks. Also, if you need any help figuring out how to cut cardboard to achieve certain dimensions, I'd be glad to help calculate what thickness the slats should be to achieve the dimensions you want. Hope something in this response is helpful, and best of luck with your cosplay!
I'll keep the idea in mind! I've got a few other videos in the works currently, but possibly I can do a video like that in the future. I'll let you know if/when I post a hot glue case video. :)
+Natalie Beaudoin Just wanted to let you know this week's Tutorial Tuesday was about how to make a hot glue phone case! Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for the idea!

Wait, you want to build a trash can out of cardboard? How will it hold up?
Love it! Thank you! I just made this for my Rodeo Clown Halloween costume.
Glad the video helped! Sounds like a fun costume.
Can i use it as a trash bin? I will only put plastic bottles in it, is it firm enough?
It's fairly sturdy, so I think it would be able to support holding empty plastic bottles. If you wanted to make it sturdier, you could reinforce the inside with more tape. Hope this project goes well for you!
Nice, love your videos.
