The real price difference is much greater if you factor in that you can get the original Ally on sale brand new for about $500, or an open box for probably $400 or less even. On the other hand, the new Ally X is $800 brand new, and probably not as easy to get on sale or open box right now. The Ally X is in a weird spot, because it is a good device but it doesn't have a better CPU in it so it's basically still the same except for a longer battery life. I think it's not worth upgrading from the original to the X, but if you have not bought the original before, then maybe getting an X is an ok option if it's on sale only. The thing is, the Ally X is just a refresh, and it will be surpassed quickly in the market by competitors, and eventually by the next-gen Ally 3 or whatever it will be called, which will undoubtedly feature a real upgrade in power from a better CPU and hopefully a better iGPU than then 780m. These handheld PC's will have incredible efficiency and battery life in the next generation, although I do think the Ally X will remain the best on the market at least for a little while. Is it the best price to performance though? No, that still belongs to the original Ally, on sale or open box.
The dame could be said about the Steam Deck Oled and yet many people upgraded from their originals. This is arguably a better revision in my opinion over th2 original compared to the Steamdeck. Yes, it has Oled but the Ally is the only system in the market with a VRR screen. For me, double the storage, double the battery and more, faster memory is an easy choice for me to upgrade. I can't wait for my preorder to arrive.
@@MarkVelasquez-t3v The thing here is trust. I would trust valve much more than Asus. I had so many Asus products fail. Luckely in the EU you got a 2 year warranty by law. But it has been hands down the manufacturer with most tech stuff that I had to return. For valve it has been great in supporting their devices and my experiences at least were very positive. So it's actually more about a feeling than real facts, other than that, I agree with you 100%.
@@samvieten_official Honestly, there may be new chipsets announced and all, but until there's a product that combines the form factor of the Ally X, its battery and storage at that price point with the new chipsets, the Ally X will not be outdated. Especially as game developers who want to tackle the handheld market still aim at the Steam Deck's specs as the baseline.
The X is not $100 more. The price of the original Z1E model recently dropped to $550 brand new. So it’s a $250 difference if you were to buy either model right now.
I believe that is a temporary sale, not a permanent price reduction. That said, at $250 difference, it would be more difficult to decide which way to go. I'd still probably go Ally X for double battery size and 24 GB of RAM--very significant long term usability improvements there.
I assume hes referring to the mid model, the Z1 Extreme, which is $699. So that's why he's saying $100 more. The base model, Z1, is $499 at Best Buy. So that's $300 more. The Z1 Extreme gives you the same performance as the $700 Z1 X. So you have to decide if the extra battery life and extra ram is with worth another $100.
I am getting old, ever since I got used to my 8.8" Go, I can't go back to anything smaller, I am ready to sell my Steam Deck. Ordered my X1 8840U from 1xp 10.95", see if I might sell my Go as well. With 7", even if you give me 999Wh, I won't be able to see the details.
As much as I would love a bigger screen (particularly due to the Ally's big bezels!) I feel like any device with the Legion Go's screen size is just too big for me to even consider taking it with me everywhere I go in my backpack.
Still way to much, and the nromal Ally is much cheaper, also people have to watch out on the Warranty which they will ask for money when it suppose to eb covered. If you really want thsi wait on a sale, or get a Steam Deck if you rather save money.

I don't like the location of those usb ports, right infront of the heat exhaust vents. We know how much heat the original Ally gives off. So having your power lead going over that exhaust vent surely can't be good? Won't it end up with overheating the charging cable or even the actual charging port? At least on the original Ally, the usb port is in the center, between those 2 heat exhausts.

Why would anyone would buy these with the 890m on the horizon? It has 16 CUs, RDNA 3+, and a faster CPU. Makes zero sense to buy these now instead of waiting a few months.
The 890m devices are probably gonna be a a lot more expensive than $700-$800, the battery probably won't be as good because it will be more powerful. Whatever device the 890m will be in will probably be bigger for more cooling, and may have louder fan noise.
