    "make sure they don't have a lot of hairspray on." is such a layered line, lol. It implies he's set a girl's hair on fire, references his age and the hairstyles of the past, AND is useful. Wow.
    And I forgot to say this in the last vid, but arrowheads is such a kid/summer camp currency, it makes so much sense.

      Yeah Milla is kinda the first real weighty evidence of where this game goes sometimes. It's not just that she's got some tragedy in her past, but the fact that she actually locks it away and it really is a sort of secret in which she has personal torturing demons. Sasha's stuff was right there, just nicely put away somewhere. Milla's is repressed.

    • @LazyDogJumper
      @LazyDogJumper 5 лет назад +16

      It's a shame Dan missed Sasha's second memory. It's about why he left his home. Apparently he developed his psychic skills while working with his father and read his fathers thoughts. At first Sasha was pleased to see his father remembering Sasha's mother. Then his fathers thoughts turned towards remembering her nude and it freaked Sasha out and he left home.

    While we're on the subject of character reactions to different powers; one of the nice touches in this game is that all the characters have reactions to powers you'd never get to use on them in normal play. You can see these reactions if you use the cheat codes to unlock all powers.
    Obviously, I'm not suggesting Dan do this, except maybe post-game.

    Learning Millas dark secret about her children REALLY puts a depressing light on how drug infested the rest of her mind is. Like her whole level is one huge 70s drug party being used to try and bury her nightmares and guilt.

    • @Landis963
      @Landis963 5 лет назад +27

      I suspect that if Milla was really burying her past in an unhealthy manner, that doorway would be boarded shut, and Nightmares would be trying to burst through in inconvenient places. They're not, so she's got the problem handled. Mostly.

    • @fluidthought42
      @fluidthought42 5 лет назад +26

      It's less "drug infested" and more a happy face on a sad soul. She loves to make people happy, and people are happy to se her be happy, so she tries to play up her positivity in order to help others feel better.

    • @reperfan4
      @reperfan4 4 года назад +23

      @@Landis963 Definitely this. It's like Sasha said in the previous level, it's not good to completely shut things away and bury them up. It's about facing it and learning to control and compartmentalize it in a manageable way so that it doesn't have room to fester and grow into something much worse. Milla's not blocked off that part of her psyche or shut it away, it's just carefully and quietly put in a small, remote corner of her mind. By keeping it accessible she allows herself to face those nightmares and keep them under careful control while also not letting the experience dominate her mentality. It's part of who she is and rather than ignore it and pretend she's "moved on" or something she's accepted it and integrated it in a healthy way.
      This game was something else.

    coming back and watching this after finishin the documentary about the development of psychonauts 2, and realizing that one difference between the two games that I don't think i've ever seen mentioned much is that while psychonauts 2 had more types of generic enemies, that could show up in any world after they were introduced, this game really did have more world-specific enemies.
    I think the only enemies from psychonauts 2 that come to mind as being specific to a single world are the teeth from loboto's world... everywhere else just used the same batch of enemies, in different clothes. here, on the other hand, we have the grabby vines in the brain tumbler experiment, the planes, tanks, and warships in lungfishopolis, and (while they technically appear in one other world) the nightmare demons in milla's hidden trauma room)

    • @Landis963
      @Landis963 5 лет назад +1

      I'm fairly certain that Persona, as a series, predates Psychonauts. I'd need to do research to see if the inspiration flowed the other way (i.e. ATLUS inspired Double Fine), but I wouldn't be surprised if it were so.

    • @TheRealPentigan
      @TheRealPentigan 3 года назад +2

      Persona as a series pre-dates Psychonauts, but things didn't get particularly 'here's a landscape informed by the specific traits of a singular character' until P4 which was released in 2008. Psychonauts was released in 2005. That said, I don't really feel like one was inspired by the other because three years is more than enough time for P4 to have been in preproduction before Psychonauts came out and also the language barrier seems like it would have made it harder for any kind of inspiration thing?
      That said, it is kinda spooky in the parallels.

    • @falleithani5411
      @falleithani5411 5 лет назад +2

      @@aradraugfea I would say somewhere in-between. She's probably back to mentally healthy by normal standards, but the incident seems to have left her with two lasting emotional scars: The first being an almost-smothering overprotectiveness towards children, and the second, in contrast, a lack of trust in herself to be an effective guardian.
      It's why Raz can't just turn to her for help when things at the camp start going awry. Sasha and Ford both offer help and support to keep Raz as safe as possible without halting his forward momentum, but Milla would try to keep Raz safe by _stopping_ him from trying to fix things, even though she knows she'd be unable to focus on solving the problem herself, so long as there are children at risk.
      One key to good writing in a child hero story is to ensure there are legitimate reasons why the adults in the story aren't able to save the day without a child's help.

      Yes, and he was also the VA for Billy from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. Dude's voice is just naturally cartoony, and is actually normally higher pitched than Raz's tone.

    Hey, now that you have the levitate power you have some neat glitched traversal options. I learned about them watching a speed run that had the double fine developers sitting in and watching in delighted horror. It can be found here: ruclips.net/video/lsDc1YVxHA0/видео.html

    Edit 2: he did not
    You missed a funny piece of interaction between Raz and Lili.
    Before you get your Psyblast training from Sasha, if you go back to the GPC up top you encounter Lili.
    -deleted text-
    edit: Well, not exactly as I remembered. Correct scene is as follows;
    Raz will meet Lili, she'll be assuming Raz's going to the "advanced training"
    Raz will say yes; he only has a few days to become a Psychonaut.
    Lili will retort that the Psychonauts aren't what they used to and their public standing.
    Raz will state that there are several things that need psychic investigating.
    Lili: "You are so immature!"
    *Lili's thoughts* : "And cute. When are you gonna just shut up and kiss me?!"
    Raz: "Shut up and do what?"
    Lili: "Oh! I didn't know you could.. Erh, I gotta go, bye!"
    *Lili's thoughts as she runs away* : "So embarrassing!"

    3:10: Apparently, he's too cool. I'm kinda shocked.
    9:00: No fair, I said that in the last video's comments! Like...maybe an hour ago, by the time I actually finish this comment/video?
    27:45: Yeah. Their budding friendship is a lot of fun when the game isn't trying to force a romantic subplot on us. And yes, I'm probably going to end up complaining about that every time Lili shows up, and I'm only a little sorry about that.

      Psychopath and sociopaths (both are diagnosed as having Antisocial Personality Disorder) actually tend to be rather charismatic, since their condition doesn't impede the development of interpersonal skills like reading faces or body language.
      Neutral or monotonous voices are usually associated with Schizoid Personality Disorder, Schizophrenia, or even Autism. However, most of the disorders listed do not impede developing empathy or feelings of guilt, while individuals diagnosed with APD are infamous for lacking these traits.
