Another Psychonauts Fun Fact: Edgar Teglee's name derives from a real-life black velvet painter, Edgar Leeteg. He's sometimes considered the father of American velvet painting.
Using telekinesis on Edgar (before completing his level) has Raz fail to lift Edgar and Edgar saying, "Nobody lifts Edgar Teglee." Interesting backstory there once you complete his story.
On tonight's episode of: 'Yo soy el lechero. Mi leche esta deliciosa'. Our hapless hero finds himself in a Mexican town under siege by El Odio. But nothing, not rain, nor sleet, nor rampaging bulls will stop the Milkman's appointed rounds.
This is by far my favorite level in psychonuats! I’ve always found the Spanish culture intriguing, the twilight tone I find comforting, and I must confess, I find Edgar’s plight relatable.
You were the captain of a wrestling team that lost them the semi finals and then the team bullied you after? :p Yeah, I agree, this is my favorite level of the 3 for pretty much the same reasons you mentioned.
@@cxo9378 I'm sure many Spaniards and Mexicans would disagree with you there, and besides that's kinda like saying there's no difference between British people and American people. It's good to focus on what people have in common rather than their differences but just because two cultures speak the same language doesn't mean they're the same
I just want to say, this is my fav level, by far. Edgar is the best character in a cast of amazing characters, Black Velvetopia is so beautiful, and the music is so good. But above it all, the concept. A level where Hate (el Odio) makes you redo parts of it over and over again, like some obsessive compulsion, and where art is what makes you progress and escape it. Damn, it's amazing.
10:58 I'm almost definitely mistaken but that *sounds* like a Wilhelm scream Also for the colour scheme - brain loves it, eyes are very cross with me right now.
I REMEMBER! It is Hundertwasser. Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser, good grief. Google it and you know what I mean. Now I can finally go to sleep.
Black Velvetopia is probably my favorite level. It has a compelling and symbolic story, great humor, amazing art, and my favorite boss fight of the game. I'd even put it above the Milkman Conspiracy, even though Steven Blum's voice acting in that level is a treasure.
Leave it to the painter's brain to be more psychedelic than the hippie's. Edit - Ah, you missed the chance to say "resolve this bull-ogna," in the sign-off XD
-this level appeals to me so much, you have no idea! now I feel bad I couldn't get to this part -I wish Raz would get slight design changes to match the mids he visits, I get why is not a thing but still -oh wow using clairvoyance on items seems super useful -& in case it wasn't obvious, the Bull's name is "The Hate" & you can clearly see why is that
This level is SO cool! The colors are amazing! But the pile drivers are not! Raz's neck has enough trouble keeping his head up as it is! And these dogs are awesome!
i got legends of zelda ocarina of time vibes when you used clairvoyance on that painting. hint block in like the temple of time and in korok forest =0p
You know that Dalmatian at 35:44 knows the true story of Edgar teglee (what cause him to become e painter, since his girlfriend Lana panzoni dump him after the first period Dean Legrante the head of her cheerleading squad, which afterwards resulted him becoming worthless and cause everyone to get mad at him aftwards)
I don't know if this place is supposed to be Spanish or Mexican, but: at least in Mexico, we have a saying when someone is getting cheated on, that they "get horns put on them" ("le pusieron el cuerno"). Considering the bull, that's an interesting little tidbit!
I feel like the later levels focus more on interesting concepts, while the earlier ones can be a bit more chaotic and humorous. All of them are incredible, but I feel like these later levels hit differently
Am I four years late? Yes. But! Inflagrante is a legal term (In flagrante) referring to being caught in the act of something immoral, typically in reference to cheating on your partner. Clearly a reference to how Edgar views “Lampita” as betraying his relationship with him for this man.
Question for English speakers! Is the fact that the name of the bull is in Spanish enough to obfuscate that it's literally called "The Hatred"? Did you pick up on that when/if you played the game as a child?
Personally, passed me by entirely until just now when I read your comment. My best uninformed guess would have been that "odio" shared a root with "odious"; declaring the bull to be smelly. (On closer look at some etymology: correct root, just a different derived meaning).
For me in the UK, my guess at the meaning was "the hated" rather than "hatred", so slightly missing the point. Haven't played the game myself, so this was my first chance to get the translation wrong.
So animation question: the characters seem to be mouthing the words pretty well. Is that all hand animated, or does this 2005 game have text to mouth analysis?
4:55: And the bull is art, ergo you are a prisoner of art! QED 23:35: ...did the Dragon just say he smelled like fear? 33:00: Isn't that a bit like being the hairiest lizard? 14:55: There is little quite so shaudenfreude-ly amusing as this sort of "I did it! Oh no!" beat.

Spanish is from Spain, very different places, although they have their similarities

Literal ARTIST ALLEY.
Oh my gosh, this is a beautiful level. There's still a weird muddiness to it, but I guess that's PS2 graphics for you.

Also, kinda wished Dan used clairvoyance on those dogs.
"El Odio imprisons us all. Art is the only escape." Wise words from the collie.
Edgar: Nice use of colors. Me: *looks at his level* No, you.
Dan. All dogs are good dogs, lol.
The black light look is very nice and surprisingly easy to parce
10:58 I'm almost definitely mistaken but that *sounds* like a Wilhelm scream

OK this mind is definitely the most stylish.
The color scheme and the black outlines are magnificent. Trying to remember name of the artist it reminds me of but drawing a blank. Dangit.
Hmm no it's not Edgar Leeteg, even though that is obviously the main inspiration given the level and patient name. Come on, memory..
I REMEMBER! It is Hundertwasser. Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser, good grief. Google it and you know what I mean.

@@ahandsomefridge I can see what you mean, but it kinda reminded me of a lot of black and neon psychedelic art done by many different artists

El Animador?
a good one, not gonna lie
De naDan!
That stage really is the prettiest so far! Edgar has a very interesting palette on his mind
High School: The Sewers of Life.

Wow the gameplay of this level is completely different when you aren't spamming the levitation glitch
Oh? Do tell.

Yeah, I caught it. But I took Spanish in school. I'd imagine that many people in the US (where I'm from) wouldn't catch it, though.
I played through this game multiple times and never used a rose on a window. Wow. >.
The colour scheme of this world reminds me of DOS games

it was probably hand-animated Lip-Sync
They're all good dogs Bront
Budget John Cleese dog is my favorite.
The color scheme reminds me of Moonside from another Psychic powers based game.
Have you ever used that door on one of the other students?
I was crying cause he didn't use the shield but idk if it would be useful in the tiger fight

What's your favourite Dalimatian painting?
Not sure, my memory's a bit spotty on the subject.
I'm getting some The Book of Life vibes from this level. Thumbs up if you LOVE that movie

Curious that this seems to be the only place in the whole game where Raz can stand in water without being affected by the curse.
It might be Paint
