Loved this. It was very helpful, and I plan to watch it again before making plans for next year.. Your flowers are beautiful, and your entire garden is gorgeous. To top it off you are a joy to listen to and to watch.
WARNING: Every part of lilies, including the pollen and the water they sit in is TOXIC to CATS 🐈 Beautiful video, but the prettiest flower in the garden is YOU Miss D! ❤ Linda in Canada 🇨🇦
I’ve amassed a huge collection of Casablanca lilies and two years ago, I rescued a kitty so the lilies stay outside and kitty stays indoors. Our vet said even a tiny amount of lily pollen I bring inside inadvertently on my clothes could put her into kidney failure so everyone please be careful.
@@AndYourLittleDog we just lost our elderly cat to kidney failure. It was very sad and ultimately we had to act in his best interest and have him put down. No cat and loving owner should have to go through that. Keep lilies away from kitties!
It was wonderful to find your video with such good information on a flower family and creating a solid flow of available blooms throughout a season. I would LOVE to see more videos like this for other flowers you grow. It's information you normally have to dig for, and you brought it together so nicely.
Beautiful as ever❤️….my hubby bought me 40 oriental bulbs along with some peonies that I requested for Christmas. I felt overwhelmed as I’ve always stayed away from lilies but now I’m enjoying the show..
That was a nice informative video especially in order of bloom time (very useful). I usually just snip the pollen anthers off, but taking a Kleenex and blowing it's nose made me laugh!
Love lillies!!!!! Im actually planting my bulbs now 😆!!! It must be a lilly day, thank you for the information because they are my fav. I have a lot of stargate and tiger!! Your boutique is 😍
Once again, Danielle, you have given us a beautiful video full of useful information. I watch quite a few garden channels and get something different from each of them. While they “all” have lovely flowers and gardens, you share some of the most helpful information by far. (Are you a teacher by any chance)? And your arrangements are some of the MOST BEAUTIFUL on YT by far! 💜🌺💚🌸
You are no doubt one of my favorite youtube gardeners. One of my go to sources of info on anything to do with gardening. So I have recently caught the lily bug...thats why I'm here. Thanks for sharing your garden and experience. 😀😀😀
I enjoy this video very much..Lilies are my favourite flowers in my Botanical Garden (as what my neighbours call it, converted my front and back garden, due to grubs problem)...Learned more about different types of lilies...Though I have lots in my garden, still waiting to buy more when they go on sale on line..My new favourite are Henryi turks cap...
I planted some tall lilies I can't tell you how long ago, bought them from Brent before Becky was in the picture. They bloomed maybe 3 seasons, then no more. I messed with that pot last yr and replaced some things I had grown over the yrs and filled with nice compost. This yr when the lilies came up, I can't tell you how shocked I was when I saw the tall bloom as there is another lily in that pot. I think now I'll have to get some more, especially after seeing your gorgeous arrangements.
Thank you for re-sharing this video! I’m hoping all of your subs will re-watch your videos because this time around, Lily classifications made more sense to me! I’ve bee looking at them on Longfield so watching this again is perfect timing! 💚
Thank you for answering my question about lilies. So very helpful and i will surely look into investing in them! Your channel is practical, lovely, and inspirational. Thus, I look forward to seeing what you choose to share with us. I have learned when to cut snapdragons from you and wow does it ever work!! I sure wish I could grasp how to create arrangements like you aptly demonstrate, but I simply need a class. I will keep trying though!! Have a great week!!
Thanks so much for this very informative video. You've sorted out a confusing topic. Those martagons are definitely on my radar now, and on my 'to get' list.
Lilies are my favourite flower (or one of) and I have quite the collection of them, ordering more this fall! I really enjoyed the pacing and information you've given in this video! The flowers weren't too shabby either ;) You're arrangements using lilies and other flowers are gorgeous as usual :)
Wonderful educational video - thank you Danielle. I am about to place my lily order for our NZ summer - and will definitely be using this as my reference. I was finding the choice rather confusing.
I always learn so much from you! You're so natural and relaxed. So easy to watch and want more. I can't wait to order and plant lilies. [In the early spring right?] Do you have a video that I've maybe missed on ordering and planting bulbs?
I have a few AOA lilies that I purchased this year. They were so beautiful, I just couldn't resist! They are fairly short, at least in year one. Will they get taller with age? Also, can you advise if they should be pruned after all of the flowers have fallen?
Hi friend! Would you mind sharing the particular variety of AOA that you are growing? The ones I've grown are about 3-4 feet tall. It could be the circumference size the bulb also that is giving you a shorter height. After they flower (if not using for cut flowers) it's a great idea to deadhead them. Remove just the spent head and leave the foliage to die back. This way the lily will not try and make seed pods. I hope that helps!
Fantastic!! So very informative so I will definitely listen to this again. I have never grown lilies but would like to. If you had to choose only three varieties for your arrangements with the desire for lasting blooms when cut and plants that do not need to be staked, which ones would you choose?? Thank you! Janie Bryant
Hi Janie! Thanks for this great question. I would definitely go with an Asiatic, Double Asiatic, or Double Oriental. Some of my personal favorite varieties in these groups are Mapira (Asiatic), Roselily Editha (Double Oriental) and Roselily Tatsjana (Double Oriental).
I was looking at Longfield Gardens Planning Sheet that breaks down which lilies are early, mid-season, and late season. Are Asiatic-Oriental a lily type? I can't see varieties in this category. I'm looking for some recommendations for this mid-season lily.
A flower question ? I’m planting annual Larkspur this spring. I’m on West Virginia zone 6 can I just throw seed on soil now or do I winter sow in gallon jugs or sow inside or wait till spring after frost HELP PLEASE🤔☺️
Hi Danielle! Loving the videos. I had a question about harvesting your Benary’s giant zinnias and queen lime seeds. Do you ever harvest them for next year? Or do you buy from Johnnys every year? Thanks 🙏🏻
I've had lilies for many years. Asiatic, trumpet and oriental. My trumpet lilies have not been bothered by the red lily beetle. Are there certain kinds that are more resistant to the beetle?
Have you ever had a problem with Lilly beetles? I noticed them on my growing Lilly’s a few weeks ago, thought I got rid and they’re back! I’ve never heard of these so I’m a bit lost 😩
Did you ever try crossbreeding your own lily? Its really easy tbh but a better question is if it’s worth it due to the fact it takes all the energy of the bulb, I love lilies tho
Hi there friend! I have never tried. Have you? I do remember reading about the breeder of the Stargazer Lily in Flower Confidential. A sad tale I'm afraid to say.
@@NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens well I kinda tried but didn't really succeed, it built up seed pods but I didn't really properly sow them and I was a little kid there, also they were all kinda the same type, there were some that were lily seedlings(without flowers or anything) but who knows what pollen they actually had, they were all orange asiatic lilies. If I had the time and stuff to do it properly I'd try crossbreeding lilium regale x lilium martagon, although im not sure if it'd work it would be pretty interesting to see! What would you crossbreed if you could? Definitely gonna search up about the breeder of stargazer lilies. So off topic but I love ur content so I hope your not gonna stop
I have some that need to be moved to more sun. Currently they are. In their second year, came up with a leaf stalk that doesn’t look like it will bear any flowers. Could i move it now or wait for dormancy?
Does anyone know of a good source of martagon lilies that will actually flower in the first or second season? My understanding is that they can be hard to establish.
I had a terrible problem with these this year - red lily beetles. I put on gloves and squeezed as many as I could and then sprayed with a solution of neem oil, dish detergent and water. Quite effective. I should have repeated that every week of two but didn’t.
I had them (beetles) last year and I didn’t want to have my lilies suffer through another onslaught. I used the need oil and Captain Jacks and literally saturated them with both. I wore latex gloves so I could rub it into the leaves. Had a much better bloom and I think they are healthier for it.

You are such a good teacher! But what about daylilies? I have tons, do they belong to one of these groups?
Oddly enough, Daylilies are not related to lilies.
If you do get pollen on your clothes, put it the sun for awhile. The stain will disappear.
As a florist for many years, we used to use a pipe cleaner to lift the pollen off the bloom or fabric but only if you get it before it’s smooshed ;)
Great video. Where can you order chilled bulbs?
You are good

What Is the best Lily for partial sun?
Hi Audrey! I would go with a Martagon or Species Lily.
Does anyone know of a good source of martagon lilies that will actually flower in the first or second season? My understanding is that they can be hard to establish.
How to you keep your lilies free of the red lilybug? I lost half of my lilies through them!
would you stake a star gazer lily?
I get little red beetles on my lilies. They devastate the plants. Do you have this pest and what do you do?

We used Captain Jacks which contains spinosad, a substance derived from something produced by a soil microbe... These beetles can be hard to catch!!
Do you ever save seed from your lilies? If yes, I would love to learn how!
I love lilies. Just wish deer didn't love them so much. 😑
Did you list them in order of bloom time?
Hi Debra! Yes I did. There are some species lilies that bloom early and some that bloom late. I chose to put them at the end.
Just bought 25 more AS Double Elodie
