    The beautiful part of Darryl’s story is that he didn’t start befriending white supremacists with the secret intent of getting them to change their ways or leave the Klan- he just wanted to understand why they disliked people like him without knowing anything about their character. It’s only after Darryl sought to get to know them on a personal level that people around him began to change their behavior. And I think that’s an important lesson for all of us who are inspired by Darryl. It’s not about CHANGING people, it’s about LOVING people. And that love may not change people’s hearts, but that’s ok, it’s only our duty to love, regardless of outcome.

    I could never possibly exaggerate just how much this man had a profound impact on my life. Much of the way I view these kinds of conflicts (and the ways that I respond to them) was strongly influenced by this one man's work. It's powerfully effective. It works even in the rooms you would least expect it.

    Sometimes its easy to get caught up in the negativity around me, but I'll try to start living out my Christian values more. Because maybe if I do by using the strength that God gives me, then others will learn to accept Christ into their hearts. Thanks Daryl.

    Daryl please keep making these videos. Your approach of patience, curiosity, assertiveness and respect -- even towards racists -- is the answer and antidote to hatred. I included assertiveness because you are not a pushover, but you change minds through your genuine curiosity to the question: "how can you hate me if you don't even know me?"

    *Should* is a big word. Certainly there are important reasons to be kind that do not depend on how much you like the target, and it is good and effective to consider them.

      @@ozakigamestudioyeah. The feminist agenda is a bad one. Nothing against women but its just true. I have talked with plenty of black people about my views on the racial topic and we can gain an understanding but when you get a angry pissed off feminist involved it really doesn't do any good. If you want to fix the racial issues in this country maybe try leaving the radical feminist movement in the progressive movement as whole. Because that whole movement is just a bunch of bullshit.

    I'm disappointed that police are depicted as the bad guys.

    • @robertortiz-wilson1588
      @robertortiz-wilson1588 2 года назад

      It all depends on the individual and situations that often require quick decisions in a moment.

    • @highontaiwan
      @highontaiwan 2 года назад

      Sometimes the police are the bad guys, like when they just follow orders given to them by tyrants. Even the US military killed unarmed anti-war protestors at Kent State during the Vietnam War era. We shouldn't blindly trust people just because they wear a uniform.

    • @DaniTofte
      @DaniTofte 2 года назад +1

      @@highontaiwan we also shouldn’t portray them as the bad guys even though some of them are. There are bad actors in all walks of life.
      We wouldn’t portray young black men as the bad guys even though more than half of all violent crime in America is perpetrated by a small percentage of young black males.

    • @MagicalCaveman
      @MagicalCaveman Год назад

      It's merely an example they used because police are often seen as the bad guys, and there are countless individuals who do see cops as opposition. So its relatable for alot of people today. Relatable is something you want in a video of this nature. I seriously doubt they'd be trying to say "all ___ are bad guys" in a video about understanding and love for those who oppose us, that would be counterintuitive.
      Before anyone swoops in, yes I replied to a year old comment. Sue me.

    • @DaniTofte
      @DaniTofte Год назад +1

      @@MagicalCaveman I’ve seen an interview with Daryl Davis when he said that most cops are bad, if not bad themselves, then complicit, covering for the bad ones.
      I understand he’s older and grew up in the South. It’s sad that he still holds this provably false narrative, and it’s damaging-to the point of potentially deadly-to still promote it as true.
      It’s dangerous to tell Black people, especially, that they should fear police, so that they act in a defensive manner instead of calmly. Nearly every deadly incident with a cop is because a criminal escalated an incidence.
