Jonathan Long a strop doesn’t sharpen a blade. It polishes an already sharp edge finer than what steel or ceramic can. If it’s got any polish compound on it that will fill in microscopic nicks left or erase them from the steel and give you that true razor sharp edge

Yeah, full service things like head massage and craft shaving are available in the Us, but more expensive and harder to find. There’s plenty of normal massage places and plenty of foot spas in cities, medium sized and up.. black and Latin communities tend to have strong barber cultures which are also like social places… but I wish we had more of these kind of barbers and face/head massages. ASMR Twix has a ton of Japanese head massage places that seem amazing.

I like to imagine this man runs his shop in a pocket dimension. You enter a tiny, abandoned storefront that suddenly blinks into life once you pass the door. Upon leaving, no time has passed and you look behind you to see nothing but the long abandoned remnants of a barbershop.

I would venture to guess that these will be the MOST upscale locations in India. To give you an idea, the royal shave here costs INR 1900 (roughly $30), where as the local shops will be more about INR 100-300 (Roughly $1.50-$4.50). But they offer an amazing experience and service.

This guy is truly a barber surgeon. A professional in every aspect of his craft. There is even somewhat of a spiritual healing aspect to this with its ritualistic attention to detail. And just look at his face when he sits his client up. He’s proud of his work and enjoys every bit of it I’m sure.

This is a man who is dedicated to his service and his performance in his job, if i got a shave there I wouldn't know how manly balms or steps there were to the routine, I could get slapped about with gel twice and a hot towel shave and think that was it! But the fact the barber goes through every step in such detail really shows what an outstanding service he wants to provide to the customers and that he knows the establishment he works for is one built on pride of service! This is the gold standard by which all other professional shaves are measured. I am still unable to find one that comes close.
I like how he takes his time and checks in with the client. Not rushing clients out the door to fill the seat like the others. He clearly is a master of his craft. I would pay 100$ for a haircut and shave from him.

As much as it seems repetitive to be asked "Are you comfortable?", in the perspective of the customer, its comforting tbh. You dont want to immediately have warm or hot pieces of cloth placed on yr face without getting some form of a signal or anything like that.
I probably wouldn't mind if he asked me tbh. It's part of his job to ensure that my experience is a good one.
P.S Am a broke student and thus cannot afford to have this atm. But man does it look relaxing, soothing, cathartic from where I am

I would venture to guess that these will be the MOST upscale locations in India. To give you an idea, the royal shave here costs INR 1900 (roughly $30), where as the local shops will be more about INR 100-300 (Roughly $1.50-$4.50). But they offer an amazing experience and service.
It's interesting to see the difference between barbershops in India. Considering this gentleman right here and i guess I'd have to say Baba. It's just interesting to see what a difference a location makes. And the experience too

This guy is truly a barber surgeon. A professional in every aspect of his craft. There is even somewhat of a spiritual healing aspect to this with its ritualistic attention to detail.

This is a man who is dedicated to his service and his performance in his job, if i got a shave there I wouldn't know how manly balms or steps there were to the routine, I could get slapped about with gel twice and a hot towel shave and think that was it! But the fact the barber goes through every step in such detail really shows what an outstanding service he wants to provide to the customers and that he knows the establishment he works for is one built on pride of service! Top bloke!
