I never thought of this before but if someone was to show me their japanese handwriting, I probably could not tell if it's bad or not. Even if my life depended on it.
From what I can tell, the biggest issue with badly written Japanese is incomplete/unconnected strokes in characters. Imagine if someone wrote a "b" but the little hump was disconnected from the line.
Reminds me of when I was buying a bed with my wife in Japan. The store assistant sat us down at a desk to give us mattress options and explain the benefits in a suuuuuper softly spoken voice. The same thing happened when we were buying a TV in a different shop and I almost fell asleep. The customer care in Japan is very good.
Some people want to go to Japan for the history... Some want to go because of anime... Some want to go because of the food... Some want to go because of the culture... I want to go so I can visit this store and experience the highest pinnacle of service and professionalism when selecting a new fountain pen for my collection...
The key to enjoying your work is to do it to the best of your ability. The worst thing for job satisfaction is a boss that wont let you be professional.
I like how he works within the confines of what the customer wants. He's not trying to upsell on something expensive. He just wants the man to have the best option for what he needs. Not many salespeople do that
Fountain pens are really good for learning to write in Japanese; they're a better fit for the writing style the characters were originally designed for than a ballpoint pen. I always used one when I was first learning.
Me: There's no way a 4 minute video in a fast-spoken language with such poor audio could provide adequate ASMR. Me four minutes later: So if I loop this and live for 60 more years, I can listen to it 7,862,400 more times.
now that's what a real shop owner or keeper sounds like!! (giving suggestions and asking the right questions and all of this while making the customer at home!!) PERFECT! RESPECT !!
Such a pleasure to watch a master in action. Confident in his products, courteous and proud. How I wish there were more shops working on this basis, where the customer feels valued, and where the expert gives of his time and knowledge, freely.
One of my first asmr experiences were in a situation similar to this. Many years ago, in an electronics store. The lady had the most soothing voice and was showing me different products. I could have stayed there for hours just listening to her talk. So relaxing. There wasnt a name for it back then tho.
I've been coming back to this periodically. The guy gets me every time especially when he's looking in the case to pick which ones to showcase he appears to take good care in choosing what he thinks would suit the customer best!
Buy a cheap one (I'd recommend the Lamy Safari or Pilot Metropolitan) and see if you like it. In my case, my handwriting looks noticeably better when I write with a fountain pen, as you don't have to press down all the time like with a ballpoint. Plus when you write more because you enjoy it your handwriting will get more consistent. That all being said, who cares about how your writing looks if it is easily readable or only meant for yourself?
Second this!! The Pilot Metro is great starter pen that can be had for less than $20. It comes with a an ink cartridge to get you started and a converter. Although the converter is the sac type and doesn't hold much ink, it allows you to choose ink colors that you just can't get in a cartridge. I probably would win a The Most Crappy Hand Writing contest, and I use a fountain pen for every day writing. It's so much more enjoyable than your every day ball point and just glides across the page. Not to mention you dont need to press so damn hard. One of the best purchases I have made!

Lol - brilliant comment. Sounds like one of Jack Handy's Deep Thoughts.
I can agree that his handwriting is awful lol
I was thinking the same...
From what I can tell, the biggest issue with badly written Japanese is incomplete/unconnected strokes in characters. Imagine if someone wrote a "b" but the little hump was disconnected from the line.
“My handwriting is awful”
- me anytime I have to write in front of someone
Lmao same
More like “Im so sorry for what sorcery youre about to witness but dont worry you wont be able to recognize a single letter”
same

Anyone else at one point had decent handwriting but over time had their handwriting deteriorated and now it's barely legible?
Reminds me of when I was buying a bed with my wife in Japan. The store assistant sat us down at a desk to give us mattress options and explain the benefits in a suuuuuper softly spoken voice. The same thing happened when we were buying a TV in a different shop and I almost fell asleep. The customer care in Japan is very good.
I wish we in the States had more people as dedicated to their profession as this man is.
bruh
I wish we had stores in the US that did nothing but sell pens.
Some people want to go to Japan for the history...
Some want to go because of anime...
Some want to go because of the food...
Some want to go because of the culture...
I want to go so I can visit this store and experience the highest pinnacle of service and professionalism when selecting a new fountain pen for my collection...
me too
We all know you just want to go to the maid cafe's
And not being able to bring it back because it's considered a dangerous "weapon".
The key to enjoying your work is to do it to the best of your ability. The worst thing for job satisfaction is a boss that wont let you be professional.
🤔
I like how he works within the confines of what the customer wants. He's not trying to upsell on something expensive. He just wants the man to have the best option for what he needs. Not many salespeople do that
2:20 the way he intonated that part to me as a european sounds foreign and fascinating, surrealistic even
Love the impeccable way the salesman is dressed, and I could listen to him talking for hours.
Fountain pens are really good for learning to write in Japanese; they're a better fit for the writing style the characters were originally designed for than a ballpoint pen. I always used one when I was first learning.
Never really tried and honestly never really used a fountain pen either but I am curious as to what it is like.
I would love to have this guy sell me a pen for drawing!!
Me: There's no way a 4 minute video in a fast-spoken language with such poor audio could provide adequate ASMR.
Me four minutes later: So if I loop this and live for 60 more years, I can listen to it 7,862,400 more times.
Sometimes, poor audio is the best audio
where is this footage from and when was it recorded?

Pls come back home:(
You need to get a job
He is the most polite and humble shop owner I have ever seen. A true professional
“Your address, name, or family members’ names” yeah how about my social security number too, bud?
I was thinking the same hahaha
And your mothers maiden name.
"Social security number"?
And your favorite color. Or perhaps a childhood pet
@@Abigail-ht6kt what’s your bra size?
now that's what a real shop owner or keeper sounds like!! (giving suggestions and asking the right questions and all of this while making the customer at home!!) PERFECT! RESPECT !!
I love how he talks, just super gentle!
I love the word Prefecture. Wish we used it in America.
Then why don't you be the first one to start using it in America ??
INTROVERT OMEGA oregon prefecture baybeeee
Recently bought a fountain pen and this gentleman is filling me with the most life and excitement to write my name
Such a pleasure to watch a master in action. Confident in his products, courteous and proud. How I wish there were more shops working on this basis, where the customer feels valued, and where the expert gives of his time and knowledge, freely.
"Go on Mr. Potter, give it a swish and flick."
One of my first asmr experiences were in a situation similar to this. Many years ago, in an electronics store. The lady had the most soothing voice and was showing me different products. I could have stayed there for hours just listening to her talk. So relaxing. There wasnt a name for it back then tho.
In the eighties it was called 'tripping out' , in the nineties it was something emo kids did and in late nineties it begun to be called ASMR.
I could watch and listen to both of these gentlemen for hours. Gentility and respect are to be cherished and seem so rare these days it’s mesmerizing.
I've been coming back to this periodically. The guy gets me every time especially when he's looking in the case to pick which ones to showcase he appears to take good care in choosing what he thinks would suit the customer best!
What a delightful shop and lovely shopkeeper. Very peaceful.
I love listening to people who are knowledgeable and passionate about their craft.
Wonderful video.
I keep coming back to this video, it’s the most relaxing thing I’ve ever watched.
I feel the urge to learn everything about fountain pens..
I wish it was much longer. This is magical
I wish there were a whole a series of videos from this shop. A brilliant watch. Thank you for the upload.
This dude could 100% sell me a pen.
Pride and respect - what a combination to have in sales. He even refers to himself as a professional and acts the part. Excellent job!
Testing a pen in a practical manner. Write your name, your city, test the pen in a practical situation. This dude is smooth as silk with the pitch.
What's amazing about Japan is that they still have places like this despite their andavanced mechanical culture.
I like how the salesman is very enthusiastic about the pens and really gives much effort into explaining each pen. I would buy from him.
I wanna see more videos like that! In that shop
I could stay listening that man for hours
I just realized that people can have bad handwriting in languages that don't use the latin alphabet
The passion of this man for his job is amazing. Much love and peace sir 😊
I've always wanted a fountain pen, it's a shame my handwriting looks like a 3 year olds lol
@@EpicSuchti yhank you, i'll look into it, it might make a fun video. Anyway dont they say the smartest people have the messiest handwriting? 😉
@@dukman8217 I really like the sound of that 😊
Foundation pen?
His Japanese is easy to understand and the way he talks is very very intriguing
What a lovely shop and a thoughtful proprietor.
I want to hear more advice about pens from this man. Very fascinating.
There is something about the Japanese language that is very calming!
I love when people have passion on finer things that enhances our lives on so many levels, it’s hard to explain it to someone who has no fascination of such fine objects of human craftsmanship.
Jordan Belfort: “Sell me this pen?”
Japanese salesman: Hold my noodles.
